Money Makes The Mare Go Essay

In the modern materialistic world, anything can be got done with the power of money.

That is why a great philosopher has said that now money talks, money thinks, money acts, money works, money helps and money does everything that we can imagine.

If you want to get a good education, you must pay a large amount of money to the authorities concerned in the shape of donations, hefty fees, annual development, and other charges and funds, besides perhaps some hush money.

In case you want to get a job, you must be able to pay a good amount to those who can and are ready to manipulate you even if you have the real merit in you for the job or not.

Even degrees and diplomas in a number of cases can be bought by spending some money.

If you have inherited rich property and wealth from your parents, you need not sweat yourself out by working hard at studies and work. You can buy the best talents and most highly qualified people by paying meager salaries and remuneration and they will work laboriously day and night for you to further your business interests and take them to task without rhyme or reason and even shunt them out at your sweet will and without assigning any reasons. This is what many mill owners, factory owners, and manufacturers do.

You can maintain good health and get your diseases cured if you can pay hefty fees to doctors and surgeons.

In any office, your file will move only if you attach some currency notes to it. Thus, only money makes the mare go these days.

Money Makes Mare Go: Meaning of the Saying

Money is, no doubt, a miracle. It endows us with happiness, wipes our tears, soothes our wounds, makes our life mirthful and rosy, gives us laughter and joy and changes our dreams to reality. Though not for all of our problems, it is a panacea for most of them. In the eyes of the world a rich man is wise man. He gathers most friends. His prosperity makes him smart enough to collect as much friends as he likes. Wealth, even in the most improbable cases, manages to convey the aspect of intelligence.

The golden key of money opens up even the trickiest locks of troubles thus rightfully giving its owner the prestige of being intelligent. Survival of the fittest is the law of nature. Those who struggle survive; those who shun effort become extinct. God says in His Holy book, ‘Man gets what he strives for’. It is a part of the nature of humanity to struggle for better food, better clothes and better lodging and surely money making is one of its basic needs.

The art of getting rich consists not in industry, much less in saving but in a better order, in timeliness, in being at the right spot.

Money as a Master and Servant

Though money is a terrible master and an excellent servant yet we ought not allow it to overwhelm all our abilities and master whole of our life. It was rightfully said by some one that he does not posses wealth that allows it to posses him.

money makes the mare go essay 350 words

Proficient in: Accounting And Finance

“ Ok, let me say I’m extremely satisfy with the result while it was a last minute thing. I really enjoy the effort put in. ”

Rightfully, if we command our wealth we shall be rich and free, if our wealth commands us we are poor indeed. With out money we can’t even think of living a life of comfort and ease, so, yearning for wealth is a positive activity in itself but wealth shouldn’t be the ultimate end of all of our struggles.

Money is like a serpent. If we know the trick to charm this creature it would be valuable for us but if we don’t know the mantra it would definitely bite us. Money has the seductive sting of engulfing all of our attention and abilities and at the end man becomes the epitome of the picture presented in the holy scriptures in the words of: ‘Although they posses more and more than enough yet they yearn for more’. This incessant urge for getting more is the real adversary of man’s spirituality.

Admittedly, money is a source of solving all riddles in our lives but we should always keep in mind that worldly riches are like nuts; many a tooth is broke in cracking them but never is the stomach filled with eating them. The greatest wealth is contentment with little. It is an old saying that money makes the mare go and it is applicable on our life to day too. We see that there is nothing which is available to us without money. We have to install air conditioner, cooler or heaters to keep us cool and hot and even water is not available without money.

If money is most necessary for properly running this life, we must have money and therefore, each one of us shall have to work and earn money. We shall need money for running our life and we also need money for the rainy days. We can fall ill and we shall turn old too and therefore, if we have no saving with us, we shall be facing difficulty. Money can be earned honestly and it is not necessary that we should adopt wrong methods to collect and save money.

If we commit a crime, we shall be caught by the police and instead of having easy life with such money, we shall be attracting more and more problems for us and there are chances that we may be spending our earlier savings with the police or with the courts. Therefore, we should prepare ourselves to earn money with our own hands and we must adopt honest means to collect money. The people who have got proper education, proper training and they are properly adjusted at work, they are able to have money and they shall be happy to spend that money.

People who collect money through wrong means, are not able to enjoy that money because they are always under fear compulsions and they do not enjoy life. Some people show that they are enjoying life with money which they had collected with wrong means, but we should be sure that such people are just showing that they are happy, but they cannot get sound sleep in the night and most of them live on drugs. Money may be most necessary for life, but it should be earned with proper care and through proper means and only then this money can play a good role in our life.

If I Were a Millionaire – English Essay, Paragraph, Speech for Class 8, 9, 10, 12 and Graduation and other classes.

Essay on – if i were a millionaire.

‘Money makes the mare go’ is a famous saying. It is still true today. No one pays heed to a poor man’s words. Whereas a rich man is heard well and with respect. Whatever he does is right. The law thinks twice before passing any sentence against him. People believe that a rich person can’t do anything wrong which is illegal.

Who does not want to become rich today? To become rich is everybody’s aim today. I also want to become a millionaire although my aim is altogether different.

I too want to experience the warmth and power of money. If I were a millionaire, first of all, I would like to buy a good bungalow, a car and invest money in real estate. I would furnish my bungalow with all the modern luxuries of the world. I would keep the best help to attend to my orders.

I would visit America, England, France, Germany, Canada, and Australia to get firsthand knowledge of the rich people living there so that I could boast of my vast knowledge back home in India.

After my travels abroad, back home in India I would open a few schools on the Western pattern for the benefit of my countrymen. I would charge a good fee from the rich and no fee from the poor. The talented children would be given preference in admission irrespective of caste, colour or creed.

I would show the most affluent people that the poor children were capable of achieving great heights. All men are born equal and are capable of doing great things in life.

113.Short Story: Money Makes the Mare Go

qian edumantra.net

A selfish and greedy old man pretends to be deaf ………..a poor beggar…….. boy ………a dog with a golden collar …………..the old man could hear the rich man’s voice only and not of the poor.

Ans:-                                       MONEY MAKES THE MARE GO

Once there lived an old man. His name was Mathu Ram. He was very selfish and greedy. Whosoever asked him for charity or alms he always pretended to be stone deaf. But in reality, this was not the case. The truth was otherwise.

One day a poor beggar passed his gate. He begged for food. He was very hungry. He begged again and again but Mathu Ram kept mum. He pretended to be hard of hearing. The more the beggar cried, the more careless Mathu Ram became. After trying his best to persuade the greedy old man to give him something to eat, the beggar failed but the selfish old man did not soften. At last, he went his way cursing the old man. Even then the old man kept quiet.

After some time a small boy passed from there. He was too small to find out his way. He had lost his address. He was weeping bitterly. He requested Mathu Ram to help him find out the correct address. The tiny boy was a total picture of pity but the stone-hearted Mathu Ram did not utter a word. He kept pretending to be deaf.

After a few days, a pet dog with a golden collar passed that way. Mathu Ram saw him going before his eyes. The rich owner of the dog also rode that way on the back of his horse. He asked Mathu Ram about his dog and promised a reward of fifty rupees to him if his clue led to the recovery of the dog. The old man at once opened his mouth and told everything about the dog. His behaviour was like a perfect hearing man. Now he did not pretend to be hard of hearing. Here the reward of fifty rupees was involved.  The dog was found and, the old man rewarded. Thus Mathu Ram who was deaf to the needy and the helpless was a perfectly normal hearing man to the rich.

Moral: Money works wonders.

The Old man and young wife. Together with "Money makes the mare go"

Like “ Robin Bohugh ,” “The Old Man and Young Wife” reflects the theme of pairing a younger spouse with an older spouse, both of which go along with the second song on this broadside, “Money Makes the Mare Go.” “The Old Man and Young Wife” is a woman’s version of the theme, showing that both men and women could be out for the main chance. While in “Robin Bohugh” neither partner was jealous, here the song narrates the process by which the wife comes to grips with her situation and makes the most of a bad bargain that eventually turns good for her. The story appears to relate to seventeenth-century texts set to “Whoop! Do Me No Harm, Good Man” and “Clean Contrary Way,” but neither of those tunes fits this text (Simpson 109, 777-80). The broadside text was printed in Columbian Songster (103-4).

George Colman Jr. wrote the comic song “Money Makes the Mare Go” on the old proverb of its title. The song was written for Stephen Storace’s musical play, The Iron Chest (1796), which was performed in Boston in 1805, 1806, 1812, and 1814 (Porter, With an Air 77, 520). According to a later broadside version, the text came to be sung to “Fourpence Halfpenny Farthing; or, The Jockey” (Olson). The text appeared in ten songsters between 1798 and 1820 (R. Keller, Early American Songsters ).

Argumentative Essay ICSE 2012

This Argumentative Essay was asked in ICSE 2012 board exam. You can find Previous Year Argumentative Essay Topics asked in ICSE board exams.

‘Money causes more harm than good’. Express your views either for or against the statement. (ICSE 2012)

Introduction: Money is the cause of most of the problems that plague modem society.

  • Money has an intoxicating effect that goes into the head of its beholder. It makes them arrogant and selfish.
  • Money has also been the root cause of most of the problems that plague the society.
  • ‘Money makes the mare go’.
  • Being unduly obsessed with money, leads to corruption, crime, stress, ailments and unhappiness.
  • Money brings with it fair weather friends, sycophants, scheming relatives, professional rivals.

Conclusion: Money is essential to live. Need to maintain the right balance, for as we all know ‘money can’t buy happiness, but neither can poverty.’

“They are sick that surfeit with too much, as they that starve with nothing,” said William Shakespeare in his play ‘Merchant of Venice’. This very aptly brings out the role of money in our lives. Excessive money and wealth brings with it problems of security and mental tension, while not having any, reduces one to penury, making life miserable and not worth living. This is for in today’s materialistic world, we have assigned a monetary value to everything. Thus in the words of Somerset Maugham, “Money is like, the sixth sense without which you cannot make complete use of the other five.”

However, money is not the end of all and be all of our existence. There is no denying the fact that money brings with it prosperity, which has a psychological and social dimension. Psychological for the security, self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment it gives to the beholder, along with the increase in social and political status. It has an intoxicating effect, making the person arrogant, selfish and insensitive to others. So great is the intoxication, especially in the neo rich, that they begin to hallucinate in self-glory and pride.

Money has also been the root cause of most of the problems that plague the society. Financial disputes over it have been known to be a major cause of discord in families, making even siblings sworn enemies. It arouses negative emotions like jealousy, enmity and hatred in the family or friends. In its endless pursuit people become unhappy and tense which lead to serious medical conditions like high blood pressure eventually causing diabetes heart attack and brain haemorrhage.

Despite its dubious role there is no denying the fact that, ‘Money makes the mare go.’ It is the biggest and the most effective motivator. Ordinary men have become great and wealthy in its pursuit. The rags to riches stories of Dhirubhai Ambani, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and numerous others, bear testimony to the important role it plays as a motivator. Human progress can,, to a large extent, be attributed to one’s desire to acquire money and wealth. However, being unduly obsessed with money, leads one to indulge in corrupt practices and crime, which invariably lead to punishment, and unhappiness.

Surfeit of money attract fair weather friends, sycophants, and scheming relatives. There are also personal and professional rivals against whom one has to be constantly on guard. This makes life uneasy, insecure and unpleasant.

Undoubtedly money is essential to life. However its endless pursuit, does more harm than good. This is because happiness that comes from the love of dear ones, true friends, and good health are more lasting and essential and they cannot be purchased. It is therefore essential to maintain the right balance.

Modes of communication are constantly changing. What are some of these changes? Say which one change you like best and why? (ICSE 2012)

Introduction: Man being a social animal evolved different modes of communication from sign language to words, letters, telegraph and telephone.

  • The advent of the twenty-first century, paved the way for the Internet.
  • Telephones made way for mobile phones.
  • These come loaded with value added features and are the best way to stay connected with your near and dear ones.
  • The integration of the Internet in the mobile phone, is the best change ever to have taken place.

Conclusion: The advent of the Internet telephony has been the best change ever to happen. Life today is unimaginable without a mobile.

‘Man is by nature a social animal,’ said the Greek philosopher Aristotle. This makes him constantly explore different and more effective ways to communicate with fellow humans. Thus what may have started as a sign language, gradually transformed to words and sentences, by which one could communicate one’s ideas and thoughts. Man’s endeavour to reach out to the vast multitude of people across the globe, led him to make inventions like the telephone and the telegraph. These were powerful and effective in reaching out to people all over the world till the twentieth century. In course of time he found them to be too slow and cumbersome to meet his insatiable desire.

The advent of the twenty-first century, further revolutionsed the mode of communication. The launching of the communication satellites paved the way for wireless communication. The arrival of the computer and the Internet, provided instant connectivity to any one across the globe, through the world wide web. The networking sites on the Internet like Facebook, Twitter and Google, have now reduced the world to a global village. Besides communicating, one can also visually interact with others using web cams and microphones. The boom in information technology has made it possible to assess any information on pressing a key on a computer. It has also enabled many value added services that have made life comfortable.

Mobile phones are the latest gadgetry in communication that has caught the fancy of the youth. Being extremely light and portable they come loaded with value added features like camera, audio, video recording, music, etc. They are undoubtedly the easiest and most effective way to stay connected with your near and dear ones.

The integration of the Internet in the mobile is the ultimate change. The smart phone has now become the most valuable and trusted companion, without which life is unimaginable. It enables me to put my idle time (time spent in travelling or at leisure) to better use. I can now access information on the net for my project work anytime, find my way in the city, or interact with my friends and relatives. It also offers a host of entertainment features like movies, games which I can enjoy in the confines of my home. All this is now possible without using a computer or the hassle of visiting a cyber cafe.

: What is the meaning of this phrase "money makes the mare go" and in which condition we can use it?

It's a traditional English nursery rhyme. The whole rhyme is:

Will you lend me your mare to ride a mile? - No, she is lame leaping over a stile. - Alack! and I must go to the fair! I'll give you good money for lending your mare. - Oh, oh! say you so? Money will make the mare to go.

It's very old - this version comes from a manuscript of 1609 in the British Museum:

Wilt thou lend me thy mare to ride but a mile? No, she's lame goinge over a stile. but if thou wilt her to me spare, thou shalt have mony for thy mare. ho ho say you soe mony shall make my mare to goe.

So the phrase means that if you are prepared to pay enough, most people will be willing to do something that at first they said they wouldn't or couldn't do. (VSD)
