Amount: $6,000 to $9,000

The University of Tampa offers scholarships for transfer students with 3.0+ GPAs. As a medium-sized private university, UT has a distinguished faculty and approximately 9,304 students from all 50 states and 132 countries. Their 200 academic programs are taught by a faculty as passionate about students’ success as they are about their areas of expertise. And, of course, you can study in warm, sunny Florida!

Amount: $13,000 to $20,000

When applying to Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, transfer students are automatically considered for merit-based transfer scholarships . A minimum GPA of 2.7 and 15 transferable credits are required and the awards range from $13,000 to $20,000. The best part? The reward is renewable throughout your time at Augustana.

Amount: $11,500 to $15,500

With a GPA of at least 3.0 and 12 transferable credits, students are considered for these scholarships at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia.

Amount: $2,500 for resident students & $1,500 for commuter students

Students planning to attend Bridgewater College who are also members of the Church of the Brethren can reduce their tuition bill by up to $2,500 per year by applying to the Church of the Brethren Scholarship.

Amount: $9,500 to $14,000

Transfer students planning to attend Heidelburg University at the Tiffin, Ohio campus are automatically considered for generous transfer scholarships to help ease the cost of tuition. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and at least 15 transferable semester hours.

Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio offers annual transfer scholarship awards between $12,000 and $16,000. These awards may be  renewable for up to three years. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate academic excellence. Students who are Phi Theta Kappa members might also be eligible to receive a special scholarship award.

Incoming students will be automatically considered for the Lycoming College Transfer Student Scholarship when submitting an admissions application. The Minnesota State University at Moorhead Scholarship welcomes transfer students by offering them $500 to $1,000 in financial aid. To be considered after submitting your admissions application, you’ll need a minimum GPA of 3.0 and at least 24 transferable credit hours.

Renewable for up to three years, the New Mexico Tech Phi Theta Kappa $6,000 Transfer Scholarship is open to members of Phi Theta Kappa planning to transfer to New Mexico Tech. You should have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and 45 transferable credits to be up for consideration with your admissions application.

Amount: $8,000 to $15,000

If you’re planning to transfer to Niagara University as a full-time student and have a minimum GPA of 2.5, you’ll automatically be considered for thousands of dollars in financial aid. Plus, the Niagara University Transfer Scholarship is renewable for up to three years!

Northwood University provides a variety of scholarships for transfer students…and all of them come with the option to renew each year! Renewable for up to two years, the Award for Excellence Transfer Scholarship is available to students applying to Grand Valley State University after studying at any community college in Michigan. If your GPA is at least 2.5, you’ll be automatically considered with your admissions application.

Paying for college just got much less stressful with this full-tuition Community College Excellence Scholarship from the University of Alabama. To be automatically considered, students should have at least a 3.5 GPA and be transferring from a community college.

Amount: $4,000

Available to non-residents of Kentucky who are transferring to the University of Kentucky, this $4,000 Transfer Achievement Scholarship is awarded to students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and at least 24 transferable credit hours. Candidates are automatically considered upon submission of an admissions application.

Each year, the University of Maryland awards several full-tuition and multiple partial-tuition Frederick Douglas Scholarships for transfer students. All you need is a minimum GPA of 3.5 and an Associate’s degree from a Maryland community college.

Amount: 50% of tuition and fees

3. Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Eligibility: Must be a Hispanic student transferring from a community college to a four-year university. Applicants must have a 2.5 minimum GPA or higher.

Amount: $500 – $5,000

4. Pearson Scholarship for Higher Education

Eligibility: Must be a member of Phi Theta Kappa and have a minimum 3.5 GPA. Applicants must have completed 12 to 36 semester hours of college-level coursework before applying.

Transfer Applicants

The college experience is a journey, and journeys often take us to destinations we did not originally intend to reach. At Columbia College and Columbia Engineering , we’re intentional in our efforts to welcome over 125 transfer students each year, from a range of two- and four-year institutions, and we value the unique and diverse perspectives they bring to our community.

The deadline to apply as a transfer for Fall 2024 is approaching.

Transfer Applicants FAQs

May i transfer from columbia college to the engineering school (or vice-versa) once accepted and enrolled.

If you are enrolled at either Columbia College or Engineering and you genuinely feel that you should attend the other, you may apply as an internal transfer student. Internal transfers must submit the Internal Transfer Application by March 1. There is no guarantee that you will be able to transfer to a different school. Undergraduate Admissions consults with the Berick C enter for Student Advising to review your academic performance and curriculum and determine if a change is appropriate.

Are there any scholarships available for transfers?

There are no academic, athletic or talent-based institutional scholarships at Columbia, as all of our institutional financial aid is need-based. However, our students are often the recipients of merit-based scholarships from outside organizations (state grants/scholarships, local/national merit-based awards, etc.).

May I transfer for the spring semester?

No. We do not accept applications for January/spring enrollment from transfer candidates.

The Coalition Application

Transfer applicants must use the Coalition Application  powered by Scoir to apply for admission to Columbia. (The Common Application is for first-year applicants only.) The Application Profile has multiple sections, but not all are required.

We encourage transfer applicants to list all college coursework on their application, including current coursework, but discourage students from listing high school coursework.

Please note : While the Coalition Essay in the Application Profile is not required for a complete transfer application, applicants will be asked to upload a 400-600 word essay on the Columbia Supplement to the Coalition Application responding to the following prompt in the Uploads section of the application: 

• Please explain why you are interested in transferring from your current institution. (The personal essay does not need to be specific to Columbia, but it should inform the committee why you wish to leave your current institution.)

Columbia-Specific Application Questions

Applicants are asked to respond to Columbia-specific questions to tell the Admissions Committee more about their academic, extracurricular and intellectual interests. These questions allow us to better understand your intellectual curiosity, habits of mind, love of learning and sense of self. These questions also allow the Admissions Committee to learn more about you in your current community and why you feel Columbia’s distinctive experiences in and out of the classroom would be a good fit for your undergraduate education.

Transcripts

Please submit transcripts from all high schools and colleges attended. Electronic transcripts are preferred for fastest processing . Please note that we receive many documents daily and that transcripts may take several days to process. 

We cannot accept transcripts submitted by applicants as official unless they are mailed in a signed, sealed envelope; electronic transcripts are official if they are sent directly from an institution and/or from a school official.

School Forms

The Transfer Report , which collects information about your standing at your current institution, should be completed by a school official such as an adviser, dean or registrar at your current institution. This form may accompany your official college transcript. Transfer Reports should be sent electronically to [email protected] if they cannot accompany your official transcript.

The Coalition Application Curriculum Report collects information about courses in which you are currently enrolled. Mid-term grades are often not available by March 1; we will accept this form until April 15 but strongly recommend that it be submitted as soon as mid-term grades are available. 

Curriculum Reports should be submitted electronically to [email protected] , or uploaded directly through your applicant portal. Please do not submit the curriculum report until mid-term grades are available. A curriculum report with grades listed as "in progress" or with no grades listed will not meet this requirement. 

The curriculum report is not required for students who are not currently enrolled in a college or attending a school that operates on the quarter system.

2 College Academic Recommendations

• These recommendations must come from college professors who have taught you in a college course. Recommendation letters should not come from high school teachers, employers, research supervisors or family members.
• An optional third recommendation may be accepted from an advising dean or academic adviser.

Standardized Tests

Columbia is test-optional for transfer applicants to Columbia College or Columbia Engineering. Please review our standardized testing policy for additional details, as well as our English language proficiency requirement if applicable. Transfer applicants who choose to submit test-scores may self-report their results and may submit scores up through March testing dates.

Eligibility 

To be eligible for enrollment as a transfer student at Columbia, you must have earned: 

• 24 points of credit (the equivalent of one year of full-time study) at another institution, or be registered to complete 24 points of credit by the time you enroll.
• If you left high school without receiving a diploma in order to attend an early college program, you are not eligible for transfer admission and must apply as a first-year student by the appropriate Early Decision or Regular Decision deadline. You will not be eligible to receive credit for such accelerated programs except for credit earned through standardized examinations (e.g., AP and IB exams); such credit will be limited to 16 points, the equivalent of one full semester at Columbia.

If you’re an International student, you should read our International Transfer Students section for additional eligibility requirements. 

Candidates who have completed  more than four semesters of college coursework elsewhere are not encouraged to apply. Columbia’s academic requirements and institutional policies make completion of all graduation requirements in a reasonable and timely fashion unlikely.

Columbia College transfer applicants who have taken a break in their education of more than a full year (for any reason other than required completion of national military service), or who wish to attend school part time, should consider applying instead to Columbia University’s School of General Studies.  

Columbia Engineering transfer applicants should proceed with this transfer application, regardless of any break in schooling. 

Please note that all transfer admittance is for fall semester only.  

Supplementary Materials

Supplementary materials are not a required part of our admissions process—but there are occasions where they can enhance our understanding of your application. (In other words, it’s completely up to you if you’d like to include these materials.)

Transfer Credit

You must have completed or be registered for 24 points of credit (the equivalent of one year of full-time study) at another institution. No more than 64 points in Columbia College or 68 points in Columbia Engineering will be awarded as transfer credit, including points earned through AP or IB examinations. We do not grant credit for college courses taken before a student's graduation from high school. Credit for standardized exams (e.g., AP, IB, A level exams) will be limited to 16 points, which is equivalent to one full semester at Columbia. For more detailed information, students should refer to the Academic Credit for Transfer Students section of the Berick Center for Student Advising website.

Please note that transfer credit evaluation occurs only at the time of acceptance. We cannot review transcripts and/or courses for transfer before a candidate submits an application.

Columbia does not award transfer credit for courses that are not analogous to those available at Columbia College or Columbia Engineering. We encourage you to review our College Bulletin and Engineering Bulletin to become familiar with the types of courses that are offered here and therefore the courses that are more likely to be awarded credit.

The Core is the cornerstone of undergraduate academic life at Columbia. Even those transferring in with advanced credit should expect to take elements of the Core, if not all of it. Students are very rarely exempt from Core classes like Literature Humanities , Contemporary Civilization , Art Humanities and Music Humanities .

Students are expected to graduate within eight semesters, including time spent at another college or university. Students are typically not permitted to extend their undergraduate studies unless they are enrolled in one of our Joint Degree programs (e.g. the Combined Plan ).

What We Look For in Transfer Students

Admission to Columbia is not based on a simple formula of grades and test scores. Instead, we consider a variety of factors . Each year, we admit a small group of transfer students to Columbia College and Columbia Engineering. Because space in the sophomore and junior classes is limited, admission is highly competitive. We typically admit fewer than 10 percent of the applicants for transfer admission each year. Potential transfers are expected to have a minimum GPA of 3.5 overall; Columbia Engineering candidates are strongly encouraged to have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in their mathematics and science courses.

The majority of successful applicants to Columbia Engineering have completed an engineering track curriculum. For applicants with first-year standing at time of application this includes:

• Two semesters of Calculus
• Two semesters of Physics
• One semester of Chemistry

Enrolling transfer students will need to complete Core Curriculum requirements in addition to graduation requirements within their primary field of study. Our review takes into account a candidate's ability to complete their course of study in a standard timeline of eight total semesters. To allow more flexibility with course selection at Columbia, we recommend applying with first-year standing at your current institution when possible. 

Due to the timing of the transfer process, we are generally unable to consider grades earned in the second semester of the year of application; thus, high school grades, rigor of program and standardized test scores are all important in the evaluation of transfer credentials, especially for students applying for sophomore standing. If you have applied to Columbia previously, the documents you provided at that time will not roll over (with the exception of SAT or ACT scores); you must resubmit any information requested by this transfer application.

Financial Aid

At Columbia, we are committed to fully supporting our transfer community. All transfer applicants who are citizens, permanent residents or other eligible non-citizens are evaluated without regard to their financial need. Foreign students applying for aid must understand that such aid is awarded on an extremely limited basis. Columbia meets 100% of demonstrated financial need for admitted transfer students and does not give any scholarships for academic, athletic or artistic merit.

How to apply

We automatically review your transfer application for merit scholarships.

No Separate Application

Climb Higher and Innovators scholarships for transfers do not require a separate application. We automatically review your admissions application and transcripts (deadlines apply).

Deadline: June 1

First-time transfer students must be admitted by June 1 for the fall term and December 1 for the spring term to be eligible for scholarships. All official documents required to support merit eligibility must be received by June 1 for the fall term and January 5 for the spring term.

Send Test Scores

For Climb Higher Level 1 scholarships only: ACT or SAT scores must be received from the testing agency (deadlines apply). Learn how to submit official scores .

Fall 2024 Scholarships

When you apply to WVU as a transfer student, we automatically consider you for merit scholarships. The Climb Higher Scholarship is offered based on grade point average (GPA) — and only for the highest level, GPA plus ACT or SAT scores.

Note: Transfer GPA is based on a cumulative GPA calculation from all institutions attended. Please refer to the FAQ below regarding deadlines that apply to receipt of official transcripts and documents.

• Automatic. When you apply for admission, we check your academic record for scholarship eligibility. It’s that simple. No separate application. No recommendations or essays.

Sources outside WVU, such as federal and state programs, can help fund your education.

Federal Student Aid

No priority deadline for 2024-2025 aid year.

Don’t forget to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You may qualify for additional need-based and institutional aid by submitting the FAFSA.

WVU’s priority deadline for the FAFSA is usually March 1. The 2024-2025 priority deadline has been removed due to the delayed FAFSA launch. Use FAFSA School Code 003827 for WVU.

Promise Scholarship for West Virginia Residents

Deadline extended to May 1.

The Promise Scholarship is sponsored by the state of West Virginia. To be considered, you must be a West Virginia resident and complete the Promise application and the FAFSA. The deadline is usually March 1. The Class of 2024 deadline has been extended to May 1 due to the delayed FAFSA launch.

WVU scholarships usually are offered in addition to Promise.

With rising tuition fees , mounting student debt, and increasing costs of living expenses across the board, it’s no wonder why more and more students are beginning to see community college as a preferable alternative to the four-year university experience. Depending on the state, attending community college can save undergraduates from taking on thousands to tens of thousands of dollars in student debt.

Even so, students still struggle to keep up with the expenses; just over 1/4th (27%) of community college students have borrowed loans since 2012. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have the financial means or sufficient familial income to afford higher education, and they may need more aid than they were initially offered. Fortunately, scholarships can help. 

• Transfer Student Scholarships: University of Kentucky

The University of Kentucky doles out generous transfer student scholarship awards ranging from $1,500 to $4,000 each year. Transfer students who have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours and have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA are eligible to apply. Awards are divided by the following three tiers:

• Wildcat Blue ($1,500, minimum 3.00 GPA)
• Distinguished Transfer ($3,000, minimum 3.50 GPA)
• Transfer Achievement ($4,000, minimum 3.00 GPA)

In-state or out-of-state transfers can apply, but only the latter are eligible to apply for the $4,000 Transfer Achievement Award.

• Pearson Scholarship For Higher Education

Every year, Pearson awards ten $5,000 scholarships to Phi Theta Kappa members who are currently enrolled in a community college and intend to continue their education at a four-year institution. 

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
• Completed 12-36 semester hours
• Completed PTK’s Leaders of Promise scholarship application and essay 

In addition to the monetary award, students will also be paired with a professional Pearson mentor who will support them through the remainder of their academic career.

• University of Tampa Transfer Merit Scholarship

• Tau Sigma Honor Society Scholarship

Tau Sigma is an honor society meant to serve transfer students exclusively. One way it does so is by awarding annual scholarships, ranging anywhere from $500 to $5,000. If you are already a T.S. member, your chapter advisor will announce more details about the application at some point this season if they haven’t already. Recipients are slated to be announced in December and awarded in January.

• Loyola University Chicago Transfer Merit Scholarship

Touting several top 100 rankings under the US N&WR , Loyola University Chicago is amongst the biggest Jesuit universities in the country. Loyola University also has some of the most generous transfer student scholarships — students can earn anywhere from $11,000 to $19,000 in awarded tuition aid.

• $2,000 No Essay Scholarship

Transfer students juggling a full-time education with a full-time (or even part-time) job may be lacking the time and energy to complete essays for a scholarship reward. With this in mind, Unigo created a “no essay” scholarship that awards twelve students with $2,000 annually. Students only have to complete a single application form to be eligible.

• Texas State Transfer Scholarships

With numerous scholarships dedicated to transfer students, Texas State University boasts the biggest wealth of financial aid opportunities in the Lone Star State. Deadlines span from January 31 to March 15, 2020.

• Considering Community College

While a college education has become a near necessity in today’s society, with most jobs requiring at least a bachelor’s degree , the student loan debt it comes with can be a deterrent. The Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is a highly selective scholarship for the nation’s top community college students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees at four-year colleges or universities. Each Cooke Scholar has access to generous financial support for two to three years, college planning support, ongoing advising, and the opportunity to connect with the thriving community of fellow Scholars.

Are you a Transfer Applicant?

Students are considered transfer applicants if they have:

• Completed a high school diploma (or an equivalent)
• Earned at least 12 semester hours of college credit (not including exams such as Advanced Placement) after graduating high school

If a student has earned 12 or more semester hours of credit since completing high school (or earning an equivalent), they must apply as a transfer.

If a student has enrolled as a full-time student at another institution, they must apply as a transfer. 

If a student has enrolled in a dual-enrollment or early-college program and has not yet graduated from high school, they must apply as a first-year applicant.

If a student has previously earned a bachelor’s degree, they cannot apply for a second bachelor’s degree at Cornell. 

Domestic vs. International

Domestic applicants hold one of the following United States citizenship or residency statuses:

• U.S. citizenship
• Permanent Residency
• Undocumented without DACA status but will graduate from a U.S. high school
• Refugee/Asylee

Cornell’s international student designation for financial aid and the English Language Proficiency requirement is based on residency or citizenship status. International applicants are foreign nationals applying to Cornell. Foreign nationals are students living outside the U.S. or living in the U.S. who hold, or intend to hold, a valid F-1, J-1, H-1, H-4 etc. visa/status, as well as those pending Permanent Residency status.

Application Fee or Fee Waiver

• Pay the $80 nonrefundable application fee or a fee waiver. 
• We are committed to making the application process accessible for all students. If the admissions application fee presents a hardship for you or your family, the fee will be waived. Students requesting an application fee waiver from Cornell should respond to the fee waiver prompts provided in the Common Application and select “You can provide a supporting statement from a school official, college access counselor, financial aid officer, or community leader.” You will not need to submit any supporting documentation to Cornell.

High School Transcript

Official high school/secondary school final transcripts must include coursework and grade performance from 9th through 12th grade. 

Your high school should submit official high school transcripts in one of these ways:

• Common App: In the Program Materials section, under Recommendations, use the High School Official Recommendation Request to ask your high school official to upload your final high school transcript. In the Personal Messages/Notes section, let your high school official know that you are only requesting a transcript and that a recommendation letter is not required.
• eSCRIP-SAFE
• an online ordering system or eTranscript service
• Postal mail or delivery service in an envelope sealed by the issuing institution.

All official transcripts/documents must be issued in English. If not, an official translation of all documents must be provided along with the original language documents. Cornell accepts English translations done by a teacher or school official. 

College Transcript

Submit all official college transcripts from all institutions the applicant has attended in one of these ways:

• Common App: In the Academic History section, under Colleges Attended, order your official transcript. 
• National Student Clearinghouse

College Report

The College Report confirms that the applicant is in good academic and disciplinary standing at their most recent institution. Both the applicant and a college official must complete the form. Applicants should complete the Student Section, and a college official (such as a registrar or advisor who has access to the applicant’s academic records) should complete the College Official Section.

The college official should submit the College Report in one of these ways:

• By email with the subject line “College Report Email Submission” to [email protected] , from the official's college email address.
• By mail or courier service.

Academic Recommendation

The Academic Recommendation should come from instructors who taught the applicant in a full-credit college course. If an applicant has not been enrolled in school for two or more years, the instructor recommendation may be replaced by a personal or employer recommendation.

The instructor should submit the Academic Evaluation in one of these ways:

• Common App (list your instructor in the Program Materials section’s Recommendations tab)
• Email to [email protected]

Mid-term Report

Applicants complete the Mid-term Report when mid-term grades are available for their current college courses. Upload the completed Mid-term Report to your Cornell Application Status Page.

If your college does not give midterm grades, ask your professors to assess your current performance in class.  If you are unable to get mid-term grades or are not currently enrolled in college courses, upload an explanation in place of the Mid-term Report to your Cornell Application Status Page.

Standardized Testing

SAT or ACT scores are neither required nor expected for transfer candidates.

Students should self-report AP, IB or A-Level exam scores in the Academic History section of the Common Application.

English Language Proficiency

After submitting their Common Application, international students should complete the English Language Proficiency Form in their Cornell Application Status Page to report evidence of their English proficiency. Examples include:  

• Your native language is English.
• You studied your most recent four years in a high school, college, or university in the U.S. or other nations where English is an official language.
• 650 or above on the SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing test
• 30 or higher on both the ACT Reading and English Sections

Cornell's founding and designation as New York State's Land Grant University imparted to it the responsibility to provide military training and education programs. Cornell formally established a ROTC unit in 1917. Cornell graduates have served with distinction in every major conflict since the Spanish-American War. Cornell commissioned more officers in World War I than any other institution in the United States including the military academies. During World War II, Cornellians again responded with more than 20,000 serving in the armed forces in every theatre of war.

Scholarships are a type of financial aid commonly referred to as “free money” or “gift aid.” Scholarships usually require an application and are often awarded to students based on a combination of factors including merit. Merit scholarships tend to have specific requirements and are awarded to applicants based on certain skills and accomplishments and may not be based on financial need. Scholarships may be renewable, meaning you can receive scholarships for more than one year. A new application may be required along with maintaining certain eligibility requirements, such as GPA or a certain major.

Why do I need scholarships?

Scholarships are a great type of financial aid because they do not have to be repaid. Receiving scholarships can help cover the remaining bill and indirect costs, while also minimizing the amount you need to borrow in loans while in college.

What are some common scholarship application requirements?

Many scholarships require similar application materials, which commonly include:

• The application, which can be paper or an online form. 
• Essays, often personal statements, that provide insight into your activities inside and outside the classroom. 
• Letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches, guidance counselors, community members, or other mentors. 
• Honors or awards you have received, academic or otherwise.

There is no guarantee that you’ll receive a scholarship, but there are a few things you can do to increase your chances while applying. There are a few things that you can do to increase your chances, including: 

• Start early and search year-round: No matter what stage in the college process you’re at, you should start looking for scholarships now. There are even scholarships that high school students can receive before senior year. Scholarship deadlines vary, so setting some time aside every few weeks to search and apply will open up more opportunities of securing a scholarship.

• Start early: Prioritize getting two or three letters of recommendation, and write your essay/personal statement before you start searching to help save time.
• Time management: Plan to spend a day or two a month searching and submitting applications with your prepared materials to avoid last-minute applications, missed deadlines, and stress.
• Stay organized: Collecting and organizing your application materials and tracking due dates will help you stay on track and avoid missing out on opportunities. 
• Reuse essays when possible: Many scholarship essay topics are similar, so editing one of your previously written essays to fit the scholarship you’re applying for can save you time.

The 2024 Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Contest consists of four (4) separate Quarterly Contests - one for each calendar quarter of 2024. Regions is awarding four $8,000 scholarships through each Quarterly Contest.

Each Quarterly Contest has its own separate entry period, as provided in the chart below.

The entry deadline for each Quarterly Contest is 11:59:59 PM Central Time on the applicable Quarterly Contest period end date (set forth in the chart above).

How to enter, 1. complete an online quarterly contest application.

Enter the Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Contest by completing a Quarterly Contest application.  The second Quarterly Contest runs from April 1, 2024 through June 30, 2024. Complete and save all requested information. 

2. Prepare your Written Essay or Video Essay

For each Quarterly Contest, the topic of your Written Essay or Video Essay (your “Essay Topic”) must be an individual you know personally, who lives in your community. Your Written Essay or Video Essay must address how the individual you have selected as your Essay Topic has inspired you and helped you build the confidence you need to achieve your goals.

Written Essay and Video Essay submissions must meet all of the requirements described in the contest Official Rules. Your Written Essay or Video Essay must be (i) in English, (ii) your own original work, created solely by you (and without the use of any means of artificial intelligence (“AI”)), and (iii) the exclusive property of you alone.

Written Essays must be 500 words or less. You can write your Written Essay directly in the application, or you can copy and paste it into the appropriate area in the application form.

Video Essay submissions must be directly uploaded to the contest application site. Video Essays must be no more than 3 minutes in length and no larger than 1 GB. Only the following file formats are accepted: MP4, MPG, MOV, AVI, and WMV. Video Essays must not contain music of any kind nor display any illegal, explicit, or inappropriate material, and Video Essays must not be password protected or require a log-in/sign-in to view. You must upload your Video Essay to the application, and you may not submit your Video Essay in DVD or other physical form. (Video Essays submitted via mail will not be reviewed or returned.)

Tips to Record Quality Videos on a Smartphone:

• Don’t shoot vertical video. Computer monitors have landscape-oriented displays, so shoot your video horizontally.
• Use a tripod. Even small movements can make a big difference when editing.
• Don’t use zoom. If you need to get a close shot of the subject, move closer as zooming can cause pixilation.
• Use natural lighting. Smartphone lighting can wash out your video.

3. Review and submit your Quarterly Contest application

Review your information on your Quarterly Application (and check the spelling of a Written Essay) and submit your entry by 11:59:59 p.m. Central Time on the applicable Quarterly Contest period end date. The second Quarterly Contest period end date is June 30, 2024.

4. Await notification

Winning entries are selected by an independent panel of judges who are not affiliated with Regions. If your entry is selected as a Quarterly Contest winner, you will need to respond to ISTS with the required information.

Eligibility

For purposes of this contest:

• The “Eligible States” are defined as the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
• An “accredited college” is defined as a nonprofit, two- or four-year college or university located within one of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia.

To be eligible to enter this contest and to win an award in a Quarterly Contest, at the time of entry, you must:

• Be a legal U.S. resident of one of the Eligible States.
• Be age 16 or older.
• Have at least one (1) year (or at least 18 semester hours) remaining before college graduation.
• If you are not yet in college, begin your freshman year of college no later than the start of the 2025 – 2026 college academic school year.
• As of your most recent school enrollment period, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 in school (and if no GPA is provided at school, be in “good standing” or the equivalent thereof in school).

IU basketball has 6 open scholarships. Here are 19 interesting transfer portal names.

IU basketball has six open scholarships as of Thursday, following five-star 2024 forward Bryson Tucker's commitment . Coach Mike Woodson carried an open scholarship in 2023-24 after some swings and misses in the portal.

You'd expect the staff to target shooting, ball-handling, rim protection, perimeter defense and a big man to complement Malik Reneau. That all? Probably not, but Woodson and staff have plenty of roster space to fill.

Here are some interesting names in the transfer portal. Some have been linked with IU, others make sense, while the others are just interesting.

Deyton Albury, Queens University (N.C.)

IU is among the teams showing Albury the most interest, per The Portal Report.

A 6-2 guard out of The Bahamas, Albury averaged 17.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game this season. He's not really a high-volume 3-point shooter (only attempted 55), but his 36.4% from behind the arc is passable. He scored 20 points or more 11 times after transferring in from Chipola JC. Albury was named the ASun Newcomer of the Year and was third-team all-conference.

Jalen Blackmon, Stetson

You want shooters? Let's reintroduce you to Jalen Blackmon.

The younger brother of former Hoosier scorer James Blackmon, Jalen scored 2,269 points at Marion and was a 2021 Indiana All-Star before starting his college career at Grand Canyon University.

This past season, Blackmon was a first-team All-ASUN pick this year, averaging 21.3 points per game. The junior guard scored 43 points — 16 in four minutes — in the ASUN conference tournament final to book the Hatters' first NCAA tournament appearance.

He shot 289 times from behind the arc this past season. That's more than IU's top 3-point shooters combined from last season (Mackenzie Mgbako, 153; Trey Galloway, 100). He shot 38.1% from deep and 90.7% from the free-throw line. He's the shooter specialist IU fans have cried out for.

Skyy Clark, Louisville

UPDATE: Clark committed to UCLA

A one-time Kentucky commit who began his college career at Illinois, Clark is looking for a new home again after Kenny Payne was fired at Louisville. Clark, who held an IU offer coming out of Montverde Academy, averaged 13.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a sophomore this season. He shot 35.3% from behind the arc and his 47 makes from distance would have been the second-most on IU.

Woodson had good luck with the last guard he landed out of Montverde , and Clark and Reneau and Jalen Hood-Schifino were teammates at the Florida powerhouse.

Devo Davis, Arkansas

Davis told 247HSHoops IU is among the teams he's heard from since entering the portal. A 6-4 senior guard, Davis started 85 games for the Razorbacks. His scoring dipped from 10.9 points per game as a junior to 5.9 this season and he shot just 24.2% from the behind the arc (and is a career 29.4% 3-point shooter). Over his career, he averaged 8.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.

Jake Davis, Mercer

Butler, Illinois and DePaul are among the schools who have made contact, per The Portal Report. He kind of has a Mason Gillis aspect to his game, and who couldn't use a Mason Gillis? As a freshman, Davis averaged 9.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 38.7% from behind the arc. The 6-6 forward hit 60 3-pointers this season, more than any IU player.

Tre Dinkins, Canisius

Per The Portal Report , IU is among the schools that have reached out to Dinkins, though reports say Miami has prioritized the junior to replace its own portal departure, Bensley Joseph. The 6-2 Dinkins averaged 15.4 points, 3.6 assists and 2.7 rebounds a game, and hit 85 3-pointers at a 36.5% clip. He hit at least five 3s in a game five times and was named third-team All-MAAC.

Connor Essegian, Wisconsin

A 2022 Indiana All-Star out of Central Noble, Essegian saw his playing time cut drastically from his freshman to sophomore seasons with the Badgers. He started 19 games in 2022-23 and averaged 11.7 points per game in 27.4 minutes, shooting 35.9% from behind the arc. This season, he didn’t start and played just 7.3 minutes per game, hence the massive drop-off in production (3.2 ppg).

Essegian averaged 26.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, leading Central Noble to a 28-3 record and its first  Class 2A state finals appearance as a senior. Essegian scored 2,526 career points to rank No. 10 in state history and was already the school’s all-time leading scorer after his junior season, breaking a record that had stood for 44 years.

247Sports' Davis Moseley reported there is mutual interest between Essegian and Michigan, who is now coached by another former Indiana schoolboy, Dusty May.

Connor Hickman, Bradley

A homegrown shooter? Hickman checks that box.

The Bloomington South grad helped take Bradley to a 23-12 record and the NIT this season. Hickman, who has one year of eligibility, earned third-team All-MVC honors and led the Braves in scoring with 14.5 points per game. There will likely be a strong market for Hickman, who delivered a 40.2% shooting rate from 3-point range and was among the MVC's best defensive guards.

Expect the Hoosiers to be involved here.

Meechie Johnson, South Carolina

UPDATE : Johnson committed to Ohio State.

Might as well test out the NIL war chest, right?

The 6-2 senior guard had a good thing going with the Gamecocks, leading South Carolina back to the NCAA tournament for the first time in seven years. He averaged 14.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, his second with the Gamecocks. The Cleveland guard started his career at Ohio State and started 62 of the 63 games he played for USC.

Dakota Leffew, Mount St. Mary's

A first-team All-MAAC selection, Leffew averaged 17.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game this season. IU is among the many schools that have reached out to the 6-4 senior, per The Portal Report . He hit 74 3-pointers, 24 more than IU's top 3-point shooter, Mackenzie Mgbako, hit. For his career, he's a 35.8% shooter from behind the arc. He hit seven 3s in a 34-point performance vs. Marist on Feb. 2. He's from suburban Atlanta, which has been a point of emphasis in recruiting with IU assistant Yasir Rosemond, who helped land Jakai Newton and Kaleb Banks out of Georgia in recent classes.

Malik Mack, Harvard

Woodson missed on a Harvard guard transfer last season as Jordan Dingle chose St. John's (he averaged 11.6 ppg this season). Mack will be another popular transfer target after averaging 17.2 points, 4.8 assists and 4.0 rebounds for the Crimson as a freshman. And the Hoosiers know all-too-well how good he is. The Ivy league Rookie of the Year scored 27 against IU on Nov. 26. Another adept 3-point shooter (34.1%), he had just five fewer 3s than Mgbako.

Sincere Parker, Saint Louis

Noticing a trend? Parker shot 42.9% from behind the arc this season on his way to averaging 15.9 points for the Billikens, but was limited to just 16 games because of multiple injuries.

The Rockford, Ill., product can score at all three levels and became the first Billiken since Larry Hughes to top 30 points three games in a row. 

“He’s got a great future ahead of him,” SLU coach Travis Ford told the Rockford Register-Star before his dismissal. “He’s just scratching the surface now. As he continues to get games under his belt, the sky is the future for him. The way he can score the basketball, not many guys can do that.”

Tony Perkins, Iowa

Over four seasons at Iowa, Perkins racked up 1,175 points, 398 rebounds and 321 assists. Perkins made the NCAA tournament in three of his four seasons.

The Lawrence North grad put up some of his best numbers during the 2023-24 season, when he was named to the All-Big Ten second team by the league's coaches. Perkins averaged career highs in points (14.0), rebounds (4.4), assists (4.6) and steals (1.6).

The Portal Report says IU was among the schools to reach out to Perkins in the first hours he was in the portal. He's the type of athletic two-way guard the Hoosiers need.

Tarris Reed Jr., Michigan

A 6-10 sophomore forward out of St. Louis, Reed held an IU offer out of high school in the 2022 class, per 247Sports. Reed averaged 9.0 points and 7.2 rebounds for the Wolverines in 26 minutes per game. He also averaged 1.4 blocks and could be a rim protector and rugged rebounder needed alongside Reneau.

Clark Slajchert, Penn

A senior guard from Los Angeles, Slajchert was second-team All-Ivy League, averaging 18.0 points per game for the Quakers. And guess what? He's a shooter. He shot 42.2% from behind the arc, hitting 57 3s. He averaged 3.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game and is a career 85.5% free-throw shooter. The Hoosiers have reached out, per Portal Updates .

Javon Small, Oklahoma State

A native Hoosier (South Bend), Small is a strong point guard who immediately would add a rugged edge. After transferring in from East Carolina, he averaged 15.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists on his way to earning All-Big 12 honorable mention. He drew the most fouls on the Cowboys this season and shot 86.6% from the free-throw line. He made 61 3s, shooting 37.4%.

Leland Walker, Eastern Kentucky

A former North Central point guard who finished his prep career at Hargrave Military (Va.), Walker will visit IU on Monday, per IndyStar's Kyle Neddenriep . Neddenriep also reported Walker will visit DePaul. The first-team All-ASUN pick averaged 15.4 points per game (second on team by 0.2) and led the Colonels in with 4.1 assists per game as a sophomore. He shot 34% from behind the arc and his 38 made 3s would have been second-most on IU. A homecoming makes sense to fill the void of Xavier Johnson's departure.

Marques Warrick, Northern Kentucky

Warrick has 2,246 career points for NKU and has averaged at least 15.8 points a game in each of his four seasons with the Norse. A 6-2 guard from Lexington, Ky., Warrick averaged a career-high 19.9 points this season, with 2.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Per The Portal Report, IU is among the programs to reach out to Warrick. His 3-point shooting took a dip this season, from 38.2% to 29.8%. That said, he still has 283 career 3s.

Amari Williams, Drexel

The Hoosiers need a shot-blocking presence to replace Kel'el Ware, who replaced Trayce Jackson-Davis. Reneau has his strengths, but staying out of foul trouble and protecting the rim aren't among them. Williams is a three-time CAA defensive player of the year with 181 blocks over the past three seasons. He fits the bill. Which is why, per Joe Tipton , IU is among the teams to reach out to Williams.

The 6-10 forward from Nottingham, England, averaged 12.2 points and 7.8 rebounds this season. Woodson's recruiting pitch could be simple: I help get big men to the league.

Every Louisville men's basketball scholarship player enters transfer portal

The Louisville men's basketball team is getting a badly needed reboot at all levels of the program.

Not only does it have a new head coach for the 2024-25 season with Pat Kelsey taking over for Kenny Payne, but it is going to have an almost entirely new roster next season, mainly because every scholarship player from the 2023-24 team has now entered the transfer portal.

That became official on Tuesday afternoon when Ty-Laur Johnson, a freshman point guard, entered the portal . He had been the last remaining scholarship player on the team to do so.

All of these changes are desperately needed for a once proud program that has rapidly become one of the worst in men's basketball. It was only a decade ago that the Cardinals were winning a national title; they are now coming off a two-year run that saw them go just 12-52 under Payne while going just 5-35 in ACC games. 

Kelsey has already worked to bring in new talent, landing transfers Reyne Smith and James Scott, while Terrence Edwards, the Sun Belt player of the year, is expected to make a visit to the campus this week.

Louisville has not made the tournament since the 2018-19 season and has qualified in just two of the past nine years. Now, it is finally getting a true fresh start.

Virginia Guard Leon Bond III to Enter the Transfer Portal

It took a few weeks, but the UVA men's basketball program has its first portal entry of the offseason. Redshirt freshman guard Leon Bond III heavily implied that his time at Virginia has come to an end in an Instagram story he posted on Saturday which said "Thank you Virginia. You will have my heart forever."

Unless we're somehow reading too much into it, that would appear to indicate that Bond is planning to enter the transfer portal.

It's not a surprising development, as Bond has played just 24 games and 296 total minutes in his first two years at Virginia. A four-star recruit coming out of high school in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Bond redshirted his first season and then played sparingly this season, averaging 12.3 minutes per contest and 4.1 points per game, but not playing much more than garbage time minutes for most of ACC play.

Somewhat stuck between being a guard and a forward, Virginia opted for other options at both the third guard spot (Andrew Rohde, Taine Murray) and the power forward position (Ryan Dunn, Jake Groves) leaving Bond as the odd man out. And although there might've been some opportunity for Bond to get increased minutes next season, there was no guarantee of that coming to fruition. So this is a reasonable move for his basketball career. Bond enters the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining.

With Bond entering the transfer portal, Virginia now has two open scholarship spots for the 2024-2025 season.
