Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU), established in 1999, is like a beacon of hope for learners in Pragyaj. UPRTOU is the only state-open university established in Prayagraj (formerly known as Allahabad). It successfully enrolled about 50,000 students in the 2021-22 batch. Being an open university, UPRTOU reaches the students through its wide network of 11 regional centres in UP, namely Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Bareilly, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Agra, Jhansi, Kanpur, and Ayodhya. With more than 1,500 study centres, it takes education across rural and urban areas of the state. 

UPRTOU Prayagraj offers 127 general and professional courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate levels. UPRTOU courses are recognised by the UGC-AICTE, jointly, and the DEB. The courses are offered in diversified disciplines such as Management, Education, IT, Tourism, Journalism, Computer Science, and many more. It follows mixed admission procedures such as direct admission, entrance-test-based admission, and lateral entry admission to increase overall enrolment. In fact, students who miss taking admission in July may apply in January, as UPRTOU admissions are done in two cycles. 

While UPRTOU enjoys immense popularity in UP, it has failed to enrol enough students from outside the state. The university’s efforts in providing up-to-date education are commendable, but students appear to be deprived of university scholarships, exposure, internships, and placement opportunities. 

UPRTOU does not have any ranking for reference. Being an open university, it might not be evaluated on various criteria used by major-ranking bodies for regular educational institutions. However, agencies such as NIRF recognise and rank open universities in India, but no official report of UPRTOU’s participation has been found. 

One can’t assess UPRTOU based on various criteria used by ranking institutions, such as faculty, placements, and curriculum.  

The university has adopted the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) for UG-level courses. It offers a well-designed curriculum comprising core courses, discipline-centric elective courses, compulsory foundation courses, elective foundation courses, and skill-based open elective courses.

UPRTOU prioritises learner-centric education and follows a mix of online and offline teaching methods such as face-to-face counselling sessions, computer-aided software packages, internship and field training, seminars, library facilities, tutorial assignments, audio/video cassettes, interactive mobile counselling, teleconferencing, electronic mails, and self-learning materials (SLMs). Furthermore, the evaluation process includes assignments, project work, vivas, practical examinations, and semester/annual examinations.

Around 50,000 students were admitted to UPRTOU in the 2021-22 session, as per the CIQA annual report 2023. Students have positive reviews of the curriculum and teaching methods adopted by the university. 

UPRTOU follows a Choice-Based-Credit-System (CBCS), which provides students with more flexibility to choose the subjects of their interest. Using a multimedia teaching approach increases student participation, which is necessary for their development. A large batch size represents the university’s popularity in the state. UPRTOU is indeed serving a higher purpose by enabling people to complete their education while they cannot attend a regular college due to other commitments or disabilities. 

Classroom :

Classrooms at UPRTOU are enabled with ICT as per SSR 2021. 

Auditorium/ Seminar Halls/ Labs:

The university has a huge auditorium with a seating capacity of 1000 people. It also has ICT-enabled seminar halls and various laboratories, such as an audio-visual lab, a science lab, and a computer lab. 

The central library at UPRTOU has a vast collection of books and other reading materials. 

As per student reviews, the university campus has stable Wi-Fi connectivity for students. 

UPRTOU has average hostel and mess facilities, as per students' feedback. 

Activities :

UPRTOU conducts various academic activities such as field work, projects, internships, dissertations, seminars, extended contact programmes, practical sessions, and workshops in different modes. As per SSR 2021, 88% of students participate in these activities. 

Cafe/Hang-out :

The university offers on-campus canteen facilities for staff members as per SSR 2021. As per students, canteen facilities are available for them as well. Some of the cafes and hang-out places near the main campus are The Handi Restaurant, New Taste Hub, Nand Restaurant, Allahabad Museum, Anand Bhavan Museum, Akbar Fort, and several parks. 

Physical infrastructure and facilities play a minimal role in the setup of open and distance education. However, UPRTOU provides all the required facilities to the students who wish to visit the campus to learn. Moreover, academic activities conducted by the university ensure academic growth and the overall development of students. On the other hand, facilities like cafeterias and the Internet contribute to making the university campus an enriching and inclusive one. 

UPRTOU Internships:

UPRTOU has included internships in its curriculum. As per SSR 2021, the number of students undertaking internships or field projects was 25,435. However, it’s unclear whether the university invites recruiters for internships or not. 

UPRTOU Placements:

UPRTOU has not released any official placement report for 2023. Based on SSR 2021, only two placement drives were conducted by the university over the last five years. Based on the available data in the report, Dainik Bhaskar recruited 5 students from the 2019-20 batch, and Sulekha Pvt. Ltd. hired 10 students from the 2018-19 batch. Students have provided mixed reviews related to UPRTOU placements .

The majority of open universities don’t focus on providing internships and placement opportunities in India, and UPRTOU is just the same. However, this should not limit open universities to collaborating with organisations and corporations to devise a way where students of open universities shall at least be given a chance. Therefore, it could be concluded that the university needs to focus more on its training and placement scenarios, as students look forward to good training and placement opportunities even if they are pursuing an open learning course. 

As per the Self Study Report 2021, the percentage of students outside Uttar Pradesh was very nominal, 5%, and the male-to-female ratio was 29:21. Let’s look at the course-wise demographics for UPRTOU admission  for more details.

Male vs female students:.

UPRTOU lacks in providing inter-state diversity. However, it doesn’t affect the students much as it is an open university. The male-to-female ratio is reasonable. Distance education helps working and remotely placed females continue their education. Hence, UPRTOU must ensure higher female enrollment and organise drives for the same. 

Based on the annual report 2023 of CIQA, UPRTOU Allahabad has 131 faculty members: 46 for UG courses and 85 for PG courses. According to the student reviews, the faculty at UPRTOU is knowledgeable and helpful. They guide students and encourage them to build skills and enhance their knowledge. Also, university examinations are held on time.

Talking about the administration, the current governor of UP, Smt. Anandiben Patel, is the chancellor of UPRTOU. Other administrative staff members are qualified and experienced. As per students, the management is approachable and cooperative towards them. The management appears focused on ensuring its internal quality. It has established a Center for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA) which publishes annual reports and contributes to promoting quality assurance strategies and processes. 

An optimum number of faculty are available at the main campus of UPRTOU. Students can benefit from the learned and supportive teachers. The quality of faculty available at the university tells how serious the university is about its academic growth. However, more information about the faculty and management at regional and study centres can spread awareness among aspiring students located far away.

Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University is located at Shantipuram Awas Yojna (Sector-F), Phaphamau, Prayagraj, India. The university is located in a residential area that is well connected by roads and railways. The vicinity is surrounded by cafes, restaurants, parks, banks, ATMs, etc. 

UPRTOU Allahabad is a popular open university in Uttar Pradesh, and this is evident through its high student intake within the state. On the contrary, its popularity outside the state is limited. UPRTOU provides satisfactory infrastructure, facilities, and curriculum. However, it appears hopeless in terms of providing ample placement opportunities. 

UPRTOU offers a wide range of courses, but it can increase the number of technical courses in its curriculum. The fee structure for UPRTOU courses ranges from INR 2,220 to 45,000. The fee for MBA is INR 36,000; for B.Ed is INR 37,000; for MA is INR 17,000; and for BA is 13,5000. The fee structure is affordable, especially for economically deprived students. 

Overall, UPRTOU is a convenient option for students within the state who can’t attend regular classes and wish to pursue higher education while continuing their exam preparation, job, etc.

UPRTOU Back Paper Date 2021 extended latest news:  UPRTOU stands for Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University has again extended the last date for filling the back examination form. Now, new date is 30 January 2021. The examination session of December 2020 is going to began from 9 Feb 2021. The students who could not give their exam in the previous examination session due to any reason, can fill the back examination form till 30 January.

Regional Coordinator Dr. Kavita Tyagi said that the university has again increased the date by taking this decision keeping in mind the interests of the students. Which is the last. After this there will be no increase. All the candidates can now submit their examinations till 30 January 2021 at their study center. Otherwise, their result will be incomplete.

UP Rajarshi Tandon Open University Admission 2024-25 Latest Updates

• UPRTOU BEd admission has commenced through the entrance examination, and the students can register online by visiting the official web portal. Apply Here

UPRTOU Admission for the July session will open on 01 May 2024* , and the deadline to fill out the registration form is  31 May 2024* .  Students can submit the form online at @uprtou.ac.in , students can submit the admission form through the online mode only.   Students can enroll in multiple UG, and PG courses at the UPRTOU according to their eligibility criteria. The University provides various courses at UG and PG levels such as BA, BCom, BLIS, BBA, MA, MCom, MSW, MLIS, MJMC, etc. UPRTOU is offering UG and PG courses under the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) for the 2024-25 academic year.

Rajarshi Tandon Open University offers admission to more than 15 courses of different streams in the UG, PG, and Diploma courses. The university offers all types of courses including UG, PG, M.Phil, PhD diploma, and certificate courses. There is direct admission to the offered courses but students need to take an entry test for research degrees and BEd.

For admission to some of the courses offered in UPRTOU Admission 2024-25, the candidates might be required to appear for an entrance examination. However, admission to most of the UG degree programmes is offered based on the merit list prepared by the university considering the marks scored by the candidates in their qualifying examination. Bachelor of Education entrance exams must be passed before UPRTOU Admission 2024 is granted.

UPRTOU Degree Certificate Apply Online

Enrollment in UPRTOU Admission 2024-25 session will soon start for Certificate, and Diploma degree programmes, applications are accepted. These courses are offered by the university via distance learning, and the application procedure is done online through the university's official portal.

It features undergraduate, graduate, certificate, and diploma programmes for open and distance learning. The last date for UPRTOU admission 2024-25is  31 May 2024* .   The official admissions homepage will accommodate the publication of application forms. Both online & offline applications will be readily available to students. All courses will commence upon admission to UPRTOU. Applying students are required to visit www.masters.uprtouphd.co.in .

Registration for UPRTOU Admission 2024-25 can be done in the online mode. The university has released the online admission form on the official website. The deadline to fill out the UPRTOU Online admission form will be  31 May 2024 . The applicants who are eligible and interested can apply online at @uprtou.ac.in before the application deadline. For the academic year 2024-25, the university has released the online application form on the official website of the university.

UPRTOU Admission Form 2024

Registration for UPRTOU Admission 2024-25 will commence soon for the July session. The last date to fill out the UPRTOU Admission form is  31 May 2024 (tentative) . The students who want to submit the admission form must visit the official web portal @uprtou.ac.in . Candidates must submit the admission form online before the closing date so that they are considered for admission to the courses offered by the university.

UPRTOU UG Admission 2024

UPRTOU UG Admission going to commence soon for the July session, and the last date to submit the application form will be  31 May 2024. There are various undergraduate degree programmes which are offered by UPRTOU in various fields of study. Candidates can opt for UPRTOU Admission 2024-25 in BA, BSc, BEd, BCA, BBA, etc. degree programmes as per their area of interest. Admission to the courses is done based on the merit list prepared considering the marks scored by the candidates in the qualifying examination.

UPRTOU Admission  2024-25  to any undergraduate course is based on the student minimum eligibility criteria which is the student needs to have completed class 12th, 10+2 from a recognized board with the relevant stream to apply for the bachelor's degree. Students must have completed their graduation degree before they can enrol in the B.Ed course. The admission process in the university is completely online and offline.

Students will get direct admission based on their previous qualifications while BEd admission will be based on the merit list prepared by the university on entrance exam scores.

UPRTOU BA Admission 2024

UPRTOU BA Admission will open for the July 2024 session, and the deadline to submit the application form is  31 May 2024* at @uprtou.ac.in . UPRTOU Admission 2024 offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in several specializations. It is a 4-year duration UG degree. UPRTOU BA Admission 2024 is based on the 12th-class marks of the students. The University has released admission forms and students have to fill out the application form before the deadline.

UPRTOU BCom Admission 2024

31 May 2024*  is the deadline to submit the UPRTOU Admission form 2024-25 at @uprtou.c.in . The applicants who have completed their schooling can apply for UPRTOU Admission in the July 2024 academic session. The admission to the BCom program at this program will be decided based on previous qualifying examination marks.

UPRTOU B.Ed Admission 2024

• Students are required to have a bachelor's degree from an institution that is regionally or nationally recognized with a grade point average of at least 50% and is eligible to enrol for  UPRTOU BEd Admission 2024-25 .
• The students are required to have obtained a passing score on the UPRTOU B.Ed Entrance Test 2024.

UPRTOU PG Admission 2024

Students must have a UG degree from a recognized university, and it is the basic eligibility criteria for admission into any regular PG program except MCA and MBA. To get admission to UPROU students are required to meet the minimum qualification.  To get admission to PG programmes students must have a UG degree from a recognized university, and it is the basic eligibility criteria for admission into any regular PG program except MCA and MBA. Students in their final year of study are also eligible to apply.

UPRTOU MA Admission 2024-25

UPRTOU offers MA admission to the July session, and the application form will be invited soon on the official website @uprtou.ac.in. UPRTOU MA Admission last date will be  31 May 2024* . Students with an interest in languages such as English, comparative literature, Gujarati, Sanskrit, political science, etc can apply for MA admission at UPRTOU. Before filling out the application form, the applicants must complete their UG course from a university or institution that is approved by the UGC.

UPRTOU PhD Admission 2024-25

UPRTOU Admission 2024 to the PhD course and the last date to fill out the UPRTOU PhD application form have not been announced yet. Those who are seeking admission in the course must have a master's degree in the relevant field with a minimum of 60% marks. Before applying for the course student must have to fill out the online registration form by visiting the official website of the university.

UPRTOU Admission 2024 offers various Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes for the academic sessions 2024-25. The detailed list is mentioned below, candidates can check the courses as per their interest and can apply for admission.

UG Courses, Fees and Eligibility

Uprtou admission 2024-25 eligibility criteria.

To become eligible for the UPRTOU Admission 2024-25 students need to have passed 10+2 from a recognized board or university. The university offers courses such as BA, BSc, BCom, and BBA, those who pass the minimum eligibility criteria can only take admitted in the university and the application forms are available on the university website.

Students should have completed their 12th-grade coursework with 40 to 45 percent of their marks in biology, physics, and chemistry subjects. To be eligible for an MA, students must have completed their undergraduate degree with a minimum of 50% in any discipline or the equivalent (Master of Arts).

UPRTOU Admission 2024 is based only on the merit list, there are no requirements for an Entrance examination. 

• To get Admission to any of the UG, Certificate course, or diploma courses that the university offers, the students must have qualified class 12th from any board of education
• For PG courses the applicants must have done graduation in the relevant subjects.
• The Student should be an Indian Citizen.
• The student should have passed 12th with 45% marks (40% for SC/ST) in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology or Life Sciences related.

UPRTOU Admit Card

UPRTOU Admission 2024-25 Admit Card for undergraduate, postgraduate, and other semester examinations is now available on the university website. The last date to apply for the UPRTOU registration is not announced yet   those students who do not have admit cards with them are not permitted to sit in the entrance examination, students should receive one from the university's official website.
