Describe a wedding that you have attended.

You should say:

  • Whose wedding it was
  • Who was there
  • What happened
  • And explain how you felt.

Band 9.0 Model Answer

Today, I’m gonna share with you a wedding of my friend that I attended. Last

month, I received a wedding invitation from my old friend from primary school. The wedding was held at the beginning of April. We have been close to each other for over 15 years, therefore, I definitely wanted to attend at all costs , due to the fact that we hadn’t had a chance to get together for ages .

Her wedding ceremony took place at The Sum Villa, located near my home in the heart of my city. It was decorated impressively with a lot of lights, candles and flowers around the room. There were three glamorous wedding photo albums , showing tables right at the centre of the official gate. The principal colours were likely to be white and violet, so all the guests were requested to wear clothes with one or both of these colours. Personally, I wore a white dress with small accessories .

It was meant to be a casual wedding, which I had never attended before. It turned out to be refreshingly informal. One of the best moments that really touched me was when the bridegroom sang a song for the bride and all the guests sang along with him. Also, he made a photo clip by himself marking their 4-year romance , to show to everyone in the room. It was no surprise that everyone clapped their hands and cheered them. Of course, I was no exception.

It was also a good chance to catch up with my old friends and we all had a great time. We definitely made the most of the occasion and took a lot of pictures with the bride and the bridegroom. I gave my friend a gift to celebrate her wedding day. I had given much thought to my wedding present when I was choosing it, and I wished her lots of happiness for the future.

Describe a Wedding Ceremony You Attended

A cue card portion is often included in the IELTS speaking exam . In this phase, test takers are provided with a subject to discuss for no more than one to two minutes. Providing a description of a noteworthy event, such as a wedding ceremony that you were present at, is a typical subject of discussion. Your descriptive abilities and word use will be evaluated in addition to your ability to describe an event, which will be tested by this work. A methodical strategy to addressing this cue card subject is shown below, along with some examples of possible responses.

Table of Contents

Cousin Wedding: Describe a Wedding Ceremony You Attended

The first question is to describe a wedding ceremony that you were present at.

Alternate Questions:

  • This was the wedding of whom?
  • Where did it take place?
  • While the wedding was going on, what did you do?

It was my cousin Anna’s wedding that stands out as one of the most memorable weddings I’ve ever attended. It was a lovely event that took place during the summer of the previous year. A magnificent rural home located just outside of our city served as the venue for the wedding services. This celebration took place in a breathtaking location, which had wide gardens and a gorgeous old home that served as the background for the occasion. The actual ceremony took place outside, behind a floral arch that served as a picture-perfect backdrop for the pair as they exchanged their vows.

At the wedding, I was responsible for a number of different responsibilities. Due to the fact that I was a member of the wedding party, I assisted Anna with her preparations, helping to ensure that her makeup and clothing were flawless. I was there to witness her wedding to her closest friend, and I felt a mixture of pride and delight as I stood by her side during the ceremony. I assisted in the coordination of several of the events that took place at the reception after the ceremony, such as the speeches and the cutting of the cake. In addition, I made it a point to relish the celebrations by dancing the night away with my loved ones and close companions. I was left with fantastic recollections of the day as a result of the whole experience, which was both thrilling and touching.

My Friend: Describe a Wedding Ceremony You Attended

Please describe a wedding ceremony that you were present at.

In the previous year, I had the privilege of being there at the wedding of my closest friend James. Due to the fact that James and I had been friends since we were children, I felt a deeper sense of significance towards this occasion.

The wedding was held in a beach resort located on the coast of the country. The ceremony was held against the background of the ocean, and the sound of waves contributed to the serenity of the atmosphere that was present throughout the event. It was a very simple but sophisticated arrangement, consisting of white chairs placed in rows on the sand and a canopy that was decorated with seashells and flowers.

When James was getting married, I was one of the groomsmen that he had. As part of my duties, I was responsible for assisting James in getting ready and ensuring that he maintained his composure on the day of the ceremony. In addition to that, I assisted in directing people to their seats and ensuring that everything worked properly. During the reception, I delivered a speech in which I shared humorous and heartfelt anecdotes about our friendship and wished James and his new bride a lifetime of happiness. Following the completion of the formalities, I participated in the festivities by dancing and chatting with more guests. It was a wonderful event that was full of love and laughter, and it was a privilege for me to be a part of it at that time.

My Colleague: Describe a Wedding Ceremony You Attended

The wedding of my colleague, Priya, took place in the autumn of the previous year. I had never been to an Indian wedding before, so it was a really interesting and exciting day for me.

A magnificent hotel in the city, which is well-known for its extravagant ballrooms and superb design, served as the venue for the wedding. During the event, a typical Hindu wedding was held, replete with vivid colours, ornate decorations, and complicated ceremonies. The primary ceremony was held in a hall that was exquisitely adorned, and in the middle of the room was a mandap, which is a kind of wedding altar that is covered in flowers and lights.

Throughout the wedding, I was involved in a number of different ways. The festivities were something I was actively engaged in, despite the fact that I was not a member of the bridal party. I went to the pre-wedding events, including the mehendi ceremony (also known as henna) and the sangeet (also known as music night), where we saw and participated in traditional dance and music performances. I assisted with the organisation of the guests on the day of the wedding, making certain that everyone got their seats and that their requirements were catered to. In addition to that, I participated in the traditional dances and picked up some new movements as I went along. Throughout the whole of the event, there was a feast of culture, and I was overjoyed to be a part of and witness such a lovely celebration of love and cultural traditions.

One of the most prevalent topics for the IELTS cue card is to describe a wedding ceremony that you were a part of. This question gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your narrative skills and your ability to utilise descriptive language. Through the preparation of organised responses to probable sub-questions, you will be able to confidently offer a response that is both thorough and entertaining. You will be able to write a story that is both complete and interesting with the assistance of the example responses that are supplied. These sample answers emphasise many elements of weddings, ranging from the location and ceremonies to personal roles and experiences.

Follow-Up Questions: Describe a Wedding Ceremony You Attended

  • Please describe any culturally distinct elements of the wedding you were a part of.

The traditional handfasting ritual, in which the bride and groom’s hands were bound together with a ribbon to represent their marriage, was one distinctive cultural element of Anna’s wedding. This brought a touching, individual touch to the event while also paying homage to long-standing Celtic customs. The wedding also included a “wish tree,” a lovely and touching way for attendees to express their best wishes to the happy couple by writing them on leaves and then hanging them from a tree.

  • How did the wedding’s venue set the mood?

The answer is that the scenery was much improved by the rustic house where Anna’s wedding was held. The historic home and expansive grounds created a calm and beautiful private backdrop. The outdoor ceremony under the flower arch provided an ideal setting for the happy event, allowing guests to take in the breathtaking scenery while also setting the mood for a peaceful and romantic reception.

  • is there an experience from the wedding reception that stands out in your memory?

The father-daughter dance during Anna’s wedding reception was one of my favourite parts. The audience could feel the joy radiating off of Anna and her father as they danced to a moving tune. Many visitors were moved to tears by their passionate hugs and expressive facial expressions, which served to emphasize the profound connections of love and family that were being commemorated. This touching moment served as a powerful reminder that the importance of the day extended well beyond the couple’s marriage.

Here are some of the most popular types you can include in your stories.

Traditional Wedding

A traditional wedding is steeped in customs and rituals that have been passed down through generations

These weddings often take place in religious settings, with formal attire and a solemn atmosphere. The bride walks down the aisle accompanied by her father, while the groom waits at the altar.

Vows are exchanged, rings are placed on fingers, and the couple shares their first kiss as married partners.

They offer a unique opportunity for couples to exchange vows in a memorable setting, from historic European castles to tropical Caribbean beaches. These weddings can also provide an exciting travel experience for guests.

Cultural Wedding

An elopement is a small, intimate wedding, often involving only the couple, a witness, and an officiant.

Elopements focus on the couple’s commitment without the extensive planning or guest list of a traditional wedding.

They can be spontaneous or planned and often occur in unique or meaningful locations to the couple.

How to Describe Traditional Weddings

Let’s start with how to describe the most common type of wedding.

Elements of Traditional Weddings

Traditional weddings are steeped in rich cultural and religious customs, each with their own unique elements.

These ceremonies often begin with a formal procession, where the bride is escorted down the aisle by her father or another significant family member.

The guests eagerly await her arrival, standing respectfully as she walks towards the altar.

Once at the altar, traditional weddings typically include a heartfelt exchange of vows between the bride and groom.

This deeply personal moment allows them to publicly declare their commitment and love for one another.

Following this emotional exchange, rings are exchanged as symbols of eternal unity and devotion.

After the exchange of rings comes one of the most iconic moments in a traditional wedding: the first kiss as a married couple.

This simple gesture signifies not only their union but also serves as an expression of love and affection witnessed by all those present.

Cultural Customs

Beyond these universal traditions, many cultural nuances can be observed at traditional weddings.

From vibrant Indian ceremonies filled with colorful attire and intricate rituals to elegant Chinese tea ceremonies symbolizing respect for elders – there is no shortage of diversity in how unions are celebrated around the world.

Some cultures emphasize specific customs such as breaking glass (a Jewish tradition) or exchanging leis (a Hawaiian custom), adding depth and meaning to these once-in-a-lifetime events.

Regardless of location or religion, traditional weddings consistently offer moments that celebrate love while showcasing individuality through various cultural practices.

Capturing the essence of a wedding day, photographs and videos provide lasting memories for couples and their families

A skilled photographer will document each precious moment – from the bride getting ready to the exchanging of vows and the heartfelt speeches at the reception.

These visual mementos freeze time, allowing everyone to relive the joyous occasion for years to come.

Images crafted with expertise can showcase both candid moments – like giddy laughter and heartfelt embraces – as well as carefully posed shots that emphasize the beauty of the venue, decorations, and attire.

By incorporating various angles, lighting techniques, and artistic perspectives, photographers create a visually stunning narrative that tells the unique story of every couple’s big day.

Videos capture not only still shots but also movement, voices, music, and genuine emotions in real-time.

Skillful videographers fuse these elements together to create a seamless cinematic experience.

Through clever editing techniques that synchronize visuals with audio snippets such as vows or speeches, they craft an emotional journey that elicits tears of happiness when watched later.

Photographs are often given pride of place on mantelpieces or adorning walls in albums which bring back cherished memories whenever they’re opened.

Videos offer a more immersive experience by letting viewers rewatch every step down memory lane during anniversaries or family gatherings.

Think about how to describe the photographer, videographer, and their actions during the ceremony.

Here are examples of how to describe the wedding photos and video:

In a well-crafted wedding scene, conversations flow naturally, reflecting the excitement in the air.

As guests entered the venue, they were greeted by an elegant display of flowers that adorned every table.

How to Describe Modern Weddings: Capturing the Essence of Contemporary Celebrations

Wedding ceremonies and celebrations have transformed significantly in recent times.

Here’s a glimpse into describing modern weddings:

  • Non-traditional settings: Modern couples are stepping away from conventional venues like churches or banquet halls, opting for unique locations such as vineyards, rooftops, or even private homes.
  • Personalized touches: Today’s weddings often showcase personalization through customized vows, creative themes that reflect the couple’s interests and passions, and interactive elements like photo booths or food stations.
  • Technology integration: In contemporary weddings, technology plays a significant role – digital save-the-dates and invitations are sent via email or social media platforms; live streaming allows distant loved ones to participate virtually; drones capture stunning aerial shots of the ceremony.

How to Describe Destination Weddings: Describing the Magic of Exotic Locations

Destination weddings offer couples a unique opportunity to exchange vows in breathtaking locations around the world.

  • Captivating landscapes : Imagine standing on a pristine beach, with soft white sands slipping between your toes and crystal-clear turquoise waters stretching to the horizon. Set against such a picturesque backdrop, destination weddings allow couples to create unforgettable memories surrounded by nature’s beauty.
  • Cultural immersion : From historic castles in Europe to vibrant temples in Asia, exotic destinations provide an immersive experience into different cultures and traditions. Guests can explore local customs, taste authentic cuisine, and partake in traditional activities that make their attendance at the wedding even more meaningful.
  • Intimate celebrations : By opting for a destination wedding, couples often prioritize intimacy over grandeur. The smaller guest list fosters quality time with loved ones and encourages deeper connections among attendees. Instead of an overwhelming ballroom affair, these weddings exude warmth as they become cherished shared experiences.

Whether it’s exchanging vows on top of a breathtaking mountain peak or amidst ancient ruins steeped in history, describing the magic of exotic locations brings life to destination weddings’ allure and romance without being repetitive or overly elaborate.

Destination Wedding Description Examples:

  • The ceremony took place on a pristine beach in the Bahamas.
  • Guests traveled from different corners of the world.
  • The couple exchanged vows under a tropical canopy.

  • A sense of adventure and wanderlust filled the air.

How to Describe Intimate Weddings: Portraying the Beauty of Small Gatherings

Intimate weddings possess a captivating allure, filled with an abundance of close-knit emotions and tender moments.

  • In these intimate gatherings, love dances gracefully in each corner as only the dearest ones come together to celebrate.
  • The atmosphere is enveloped in warmth and closeness, creating an unmistakable sense of intimacy that flows effortlessly through every interaction.
  • These small-scale weddings paint a picture of serene elegance, where the focus lies solely on genuine connections rather than extravagant displays.

Capturing the essence of an intimate wedding requires weaving words delicately to evoke feelings of cherished intimacy and tranquility.

  • Emphasize Meaningful Connections : Highlight how intimate weddings reflect deep bonds among loved ones who have gathered from near and far.
  • Create a Sense of Serenity : Mention the calm ambiance that pervades these gatherings, allowing couples to exchange heartfelt vows in tranquil settings.
  • Celebrate Personal Touches : Acknowledge how smaller guest lists enable couples to infuse personalized elements into every aspect – from decor to cuisine – ensuring their wedding truly becomes a reflection of their unique love story.

How to Describe Grand Weddings: Depicting the Extravagance and Opulence

When describing a grand wedding, it is important to vividly capture the extravagance and opulence that surrounds such an event.

Use sensory details to engage readers in the luxurious atmosphere.

Describe the lavish decorations adorning every corner of the venue – from cascading floral arrangements to shimmering chandeliers, painting a picture of wealth and beauty.

Highlight the grandeur of the bride’s attire – her exquisite gown adorned with intricate lacework and sparkling jewels.

Mention how each step she takes evokes elegance, accompanied by a subtle rustle of layers upon layers of silk fabric.

Discuss the groom’s stylish tuxedo, tailored impeccably to fit him like a second skin.

The readers should feel transported into this world through your words – enticed by the rich aromas wafting from tables embellished with silverware, crystal glasses, and delicate china plates.

Let them imagine savoring delectable courses prepared by renowned chefs serving culinary masterpieces on gleaming platters.

The ambience should be further emphasized through descriptions of live music played by talented musicians filling every corner with melodies that make hearts swoon. Paint a visual image of guests gliding across marble dance floors in perfect harmony as they celebrate love beneath dazzling lights that twinkle like stars.

Overall, evoke emotions such as awe and enchantment using eloquent language combined with detailed descriptions when depicting these extravagant weddings.

How to Describe Outdoor Weddings

Outdoor weddings offer a unique blend of natural beauty and romantic ambiance.

They allow couples to exchange their vows under the open sky, amidst the splendor of nature.

Whether it’s a serene beachfront, a majestic mountain view, or the rustic charm of a countryside setting, outdoor weddings provide a picturesque canvas for your special day.

Here is an example to spark your creativity:

The sun casts its golden rays upon the meticulously manicured garden, enhancing the vivid hues of wildflowers that adorn every corner.

The gentle breeze carries with it a symphony of fragrances, mingling the sweet scent of blossoms and fresh grass.

As guests gather on elegant white chairs set amidst nature’s lush carpet, they are embraced by a picturesque backdrop of towering trees and rolling hills. Beyond the wedding altar constructed from intertwining vines and delicate blooms, a tranquil pond reflects the azure sky overhead.

Graceful swans glide across its glassy surface as if performing their own enchanting dance to celebrate this joyous union.

Sparkling fairy lights twinkle in harmony with nature’s own starry canopy as twilight slowly envelops the scene.

Guests indulge their senses further during an exquisite farm-to-table feast using locally-sourced ingredients—vibrant greens picked straight from nearby fields, succulent fruits plucked at perfect ripeness, and tender meat seasoned softly with herbs grown right here—a gastronomic journey designed to reflect not only love but also reverence for Mother Earth herself.

How to Describe Unique Weddings: Showcasing Unconventional Celebrations

Unique weddings are a delightful way to celebrate love, filled with unexpected and refreshing elements.

From the venue to the rituals, these unconventional celebrations create lasting memories for both couples and guests.

  • Location : Instead of traditional venues like banquet halls or churches, unique weddings may take place in breathtaking settings such as lush gardens, rustic barns, or even on a mountaintop. The location sets the stage for an enchanting experience that captures the couple’s personalities and passions.
  • Themes and Decor : Unlike conventional weddings, unique celebrations often embrace creative themes that reflect who the couple is as individuals. Whether it’s a vintage carnival theme complete with cotton candy machines or an elegant masquerade ball with extravagant masks adorning every table setting, these wedding decors tell stories that transport guests to another world.
  • Ceremony Traditions : Instead of following traditional ceremonies step by step, unique weddings may incorporate custom rituals inspired by different cultures or personal beliefs. It could be a handfasting ceremony symbolizing unity through binding hands with ribbons or exchanging personalized vows while their favorite song plays softly in the background.

Examples of Describing Unique Weddings:

  • The wedding was held in a historic, converted barn.
  • The couple arrived on horseback, dressed in rustic attire.
  • The ceremony featured a candle-lit labyrinth for guests.
  • A live painting artist captured the ceremony’s essence.
  • The couple incorporated their love for cosplay into the theme.
  • The reception doubled as a masquerade ball.
  • A food truck served gourmet tacos and sliders.
  • A flash mob surprised guests with a choreographed dance.
  • The couple’s dog served as the ring bearer.
  • The wedding favors were personalized, handmade crafts.

Genre-specific Wedding Descriptions: Romance, Comedy, Drama

I thought I’d add these genre-specific examples of how to describe a wedding in writing.

Romance Genre Wedding Description

The romantic ballroom buzzed with anticipation. Soft candlelight danced on the walls, as the bride descended the grand staircase in her ivory gown adorned with delicate lace. The groom stood at the altar, his eyes shimmering with love and excitement.

The ceremony began amidst a symphony of heartfelt vows and whispered promises. Tears flowed freely as guests witnessed these two souls unite in eternal devotion. Love filled every corner of the room, wrapping everyone in its warm embrace.

Following the “I dos,” old friends and new acquaintances mingled over glasses of champagne, creating an atmosphere charged with laughter and joy. As day turned into night, couples swayed to dreamy melodies under a canopy of stars, celebrating true love that would endure for all eternity.

Comedy Genre Wedding Description

Bob’s wedding was far from ordinary – it was hilariously chaotic! Right from the start, everything went wrong: flower girls tripped over their oversized skirts while ring bearers ran off chasing butterflies!

Even during the vows, mishaps ensued – Bob clumsily mispronounced his wife’s name causing an eruption of giggles throughout the crowd.

But instead of fretting about perfection, they embraced these humorous moments wholeheartedly.

As evening fell, astounding dance moves took center stage as grandmas outshined professional dancers and uncles showcased never-before-seen disco skills. It was an uproarious celebration that left everyone rolling on the floor laughing – certainly a memorable event for years to come!

Drama Genre Wedding Description

In a dimly lit cathedral shrouded in mystery and melancholy, Sarah walked down an aisle lined with somber faces dressed in black attire. Bride and groom exchanged solemn glances while exchanging vows laden with both hope and sorrow.

Intense emotions crackled through every heartbeat as whispers echoed around them like distant thunder.

Each word spoken seemed suspended in time as if carrying within it not just their future but also the weight of past mistakes and lost opportunities.

The day unfolded with an air of melancholy splendor, every gesture heavy with symbolism. It was a wedding that vividly portrayed the complexities of human existence – a celebration not just of love but also of life’s profound mysteries.

Describe a wedding you have attended – IELTS Cue Card

Predicted Cue Cards Topics 2024

In the IELTS Speaking section, one of the most common question types is the Cue Card Speaking prompt. The IELTS Cue Card topics will prompt you to formulate a response and speak on the given topic. To attempt this question, you must narrow down the essential questions on the given topic to answer within the given time. Consider the sample Cue Card below. Study the types of questions that have been formulated based on the cue card and how to go about with your response:

Describe a wedding you have attended

You should say:

  • Where it was?
  • Who was getting married?
  • Why did you attend this wedding?

Sample Answer 1

One of the memorable wedding functions that I have attended and enjoyed the most was the wedding function of my cousin Vivan. It was just last month that I happened to attend his wedding. I remember distinctly that it was the first-ever function I attended physically after the covid lockdown. Just the thought of meeting my family members was so joyful that I took 5 days’ leave from the office to attend the program.

Vivan is the eldest cousin amongst all my cousins from the maternal side of the family. He and his girlfriend have been in a long-term relationship for the past 3 years and planned to get married last month. The wedding was held in Delhi’s Eleven Course marriage venue. It was lavishly adorned, with several lights, candles, and flowers adorning the space. Three glitzy wedding picture books were displayed, depicting tables at the formal gate’s center. The bride and groom looked stunning in their wedding dress.

Personally, I had a great time at this wedding. I adored the way it was celebrated, the way everyone talked about the bride and groom, and how joyful and lovely everyone was. It was a joyous occasion, and I thoroughly liked every aspect. I was able to meet several members of my family that I would not have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. I made the most of the opportunity and took several photographs with the bride and groom. To commemorate his wedding day, I got my cousin a present. It was indeed a memorable wedding.

Sample Answer 2

I have always been an ardent fan of Indian weddings. I adore the kind of traditions and culture we follow during this time. Undoubtedly, organizing a wedding is nothing less than celebrating a festival in the house.

So, talking about one of the memorable weddings I attended, it was in Udaipur. My eldest sister was getting married, and she always wanted a destination wedding. So, back in 2018, my parents had organized a lavish one in Bhairav Garh Palace, Udaipur.

The wedding was organized in mid-November; thus, the weather was somewhat supportive. While we had to deal with scorching heat during the daytime, the nights were breezy and cool. One of the best things about this wedding was it was the first of our generation. Since we are just two siblings, the entire obligation for arrangement fell upon me. Right from shopping to ensuring everybody’s departure at the right time, I was on my toes throughout the wedding.

We stayed in the palace for four days, overlooking every arrangement. This was the time when my sister simply sat back and relished her time of being a queen of the family. All in all, those days were enthralling, and the memories we created at her wedding are long-lasting.

Sample Answer 3

I am an introvert who doesn’t like to socialize much with people. So, attending a function or a gathering is a  big deal for me. Early last year, I learned that one of my close elder sisters, Gargi, was getting married, and I felt obligated to attend her wedding since she was so important to me. She always cared for me like a kind caring older sister when I was a child, and we share a very special bond.

In September, the wedding ceremony took place in Goa. My sister chose the venue for the wedding. She had always desired a quiet wedding, where she could spend time with her close friends and family following the wedding rites. The wedding took place along the ocean and was stunningly gorgeous, with fresh flowers, lights, and candles. The principal theme of the wedding was pink and yellow. Thus all of the guests were asked to wear clothing in any shade of these hues.

I enjoyed every bit of the celebration. Particularly meeting my other cousins and relatives. The food was delicious and had a wonderful variety of snacks. I needed to attend her wedding since she, along with her husband and in-laws, decided to relocate to the UK, after the wedding. I wanted to spend some time with her before moving to the UK and sharing some of her precious moments with her personally. She looked gorgeous that day. I personally liked her wedding attire.

  • Obligated – require or compel (someone) to undertake a legal or moral duty. Eg : Vinay felt obligated to let Garima read the letter.
  • Hues – a color or shade. Eg : The orange, green and red hues in the park gave it a nearly surreal appearance.
  • Socialize – participate in social activities; mix socially with others. Eg : Rudra and Anita socialize easily.
  • Attire – clothes, especially fine or formal ones. Eg : Else was dressed in all violet attire.
  • Delicious – highly pleasant to the taste. Eg : Catherine cooks delicious food.

Wedding Ceremony Essay, 400 Words

By: Haque | For class 9-10/SSC | 19-05-’22

Introduction: A wedding ceremony is organized with much pomp and grandeur in Bangladesh. Here everybody, rich or poor, wants to arrange his or her wedding ceremony with much festivity. People spend a lot of money on decoration and lighting in a marriage ceremony in this country. An elaborate feast is also an integral part of such a ceremony.

Description: A few days ago, I attended the wedding ceremony of one of my friends. About one week before the ceremony, he had sent me a card inviting me to participate in the ceremony. The date and time for the ceremony were fixed to be Friday, the 20th April, 20022, at 7 PM. On the appointed day I went to the marriage venue on time. The bridegroom had already arrived at the scene. The community center was elaborately decorated and gorgeously lighted. I brought some flowers and other gifts for the couple. At first, I met the bridegroom and exchanged courtesy with him. He was in a joyful mood. The community center was already filled with a lot of people. We were waiting for the bride to come. After about half an hour the bride arrived in a car with some of her friends and relatives. The first step of the ceremony was solemnization. The marriage was solemnized by a Muslim religious leader or Moulavi. He was the Imam of the local mosque. He asked the bride and the bridegroom about their consent to the marriage. Both the bride and the bridegroom consented. The Moulavi declared them to be husband and wife. After that, the Marriage Registrar and Kazi came. He wrote down the particulars of the bride, the bridegroom, their guardians, and the witnesses. Then he collected the signatures of the bride, bridegroom, the witnesses, and other relevant people. Thus the registration formalities ended. I was also one of the witnesses to the marriage and gave my particulars and signature. Next, we attended the feast. Special arrangement for the feast was made for the bridegroom and his companions. I joined the bridegroom. There were a lot of delicious dishes. We enjoyed the feast very much. After the feast, the guests began to leave one after another. The bridegroom is also prepared to leave the venue with the bride in a specially decorated car. I took leave of them and left.

Conclusion: I really enjoyed the wedding ceremony. This wedding ceremony may stay in my memory for a long along with many other memories of social rituals.

The groom arrived at 3 p.m. He was wearing a gorgeous wedding dress. He was the main attraction. He looked very smart and cheerful. I exchanged courtesy with him. He also greeted me. Hundreds of guests from both sides were present at the ceremony. I was assigned to take pictures. I have sincerely performed my duties and carefully photographed the special moments. IELTS Cue Card # 120 – Describe a wedding ceremony you attended

IELTS Speaking Part 2: IELTS Cue Card/ Candidate Task Card.

Describe a wedding ceremony you attended.

You should say:

  •  when and where it was
  •  who were getting married
  •  what happened at the wedding

and explain what type of wedding ceremony it was.

Model Answer 1: Talking about a happy and fun event like a wedding ceremony has always been a favourite subject for me because attending such happy occasions brings a lot of joy among the people while also gives an opportunity to witness a rare moment of the new beginning of life. Today, I would like to talk about one such wedding ceremony that I attended a few months ago.

I would like to say that it was a “marriage from heaven”. Some even called it “marriage of the year” because thousands of people attended it. By the way, a wedding ceremony, a traditional one in the cultural context of my country, of one of my first cousins, who also happened to be the only child and son of his parents. So, they made all kinds of arrangements, which included bringing some of the best catering people from the town to cook virtually all kinds of traditional and non-traditional delicious dishes and hiring a famous musical band of my country to play music, to make the wedding ceremony even more memorable.

The marriage had taken place at a local but very big party centre which could accommodate thousands of people. At the ceremony, the guests were busy greeting each other while enjoying some snacks. The music was being played at one corner of the party centre and some young people were also dancing to the tune of the music. One of the best things about that wedding ceremony was that the party centre was decorated with some marvellous lighting system, potted plants and some fresh flowers. And, of course, people dressed to kill to make the wedding ceremony look even more colourful and dreamy.   I enjoyed this wedding ceremony because there were so many nice things that were going on at the ceremony while it also followed the traditional values and customs of our culture. In fact, I would say that it was a wedding ceremony, which was enjoyed by all kinds of people of all ages from all over the city. It was an expensive wedding ceremony, but the fun was worth it.

Sample Answer 2: One of the most memorable wedding programmes that I have ever attended and enjoyed is the wedding ceremony of my cousin whose name is Ruby. It was in the year 2017 and I was 21 years old at that time. If I remember it correctly, it was in the mid-summer, and I took a 4-day leave from my university to attend the programme in my hometown.

My cousin Ruby got married that day and she was the daughter of my eldest maternal uncle. Among our cousins, Ruby was the eldest, and she was 26 years old when she got married to a doctor. I was at the wedding from the very beginning, from shopping till the departure of the bride to her father-in-law’s house.  The last part was a sad experience for all of us when our beloved cousin Ruby left the house to start a new life.

To celebrate the day, the house and the yard in front of it were decorated marvellously. We celebrated the ceremony for 3 whole days and hundreds of relatives and neighbours came to congratulate the bride and they brought gifts for the new couple. The host prepared several delicious dishes and people wore their best dresses in the programme. People enjoyed the festivity, colourful decoration, food and the opportunity to sing and dance to the music.

It was a traditional wedding that followed the general customs of our country. It was nothing different from the traditional marriages that are generally performed in most of the part of the country. In fact, we enjoyed the wedding because a typical marriage ceremony in our country has lots of interesting and enjoyable parts that people celebrate with boundless joy. What is IELTS?

The IELTS is a valid, accurate, reliable language ability exam created by reputable language assessment organisations. The test is divided into two sections: General Training, which is for immigration purposes and gaining work experience, and Academic, for those pursuing professional registration or further study. Scores are assigned on a 9-band scale to signify varying levels of expertise.

What is an IELTS Cue Card?

An IELTS Cue Card is an essential part of the IELTS speaking session. It prompts candidates to express their opinions on a specific topic for a set amount of time, usually 1-2 minutes. These cards cover various issues, from personal experiences to social challenges, and require applicants to respond fluently, coherently, and with linguistic inventiveness. Using the cue card as a guide, applicants must organise their speech properly, communicating concepts with clarity and accuracy. Introduction.

I distinctly recall attending my cousin's wedding last summer. It was an elaborate event hosted in a gorgeous countryside setting. The air was charged with expectation and excitement as family and friends came to commemorate the union of two souls starting on a path of love and friendship.

Where exactly did the wedding take place?

The wedding was held in a lovely town surrounded by rolling hills, distant from the hustle and bustle of city life. The setting was a wonderful old home surrounded by lush gardens and tall trees, which provided a magical background for the celebrations. The tranquil environment of the countryside lent a romantic touch to the occasion, making it an unforgettable location for a love celebration.

Why was this venue chosen for the wedding?

This area was chosen because of its pastoral beauty and tranquillity, making it an ideal respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The couple had always envisioned a rustic outdoor wedding surrounded by nature's beauty, and this site wonderfully embodied that idea.

What were the highlights of the wedding ceremony?

The wedding ceremony was a lovely combination of tradition and personalised additions. A real string quartet played beautiful music as the bride, glowing in her white gown, went down the aisle, and the groom grinned at the altar. The wedding I had the privilege of attending was a stunning event in the middle of the bustling metropolis. On a fantastic fall day, we gathered in the old downtown church, ornamented with elaborate stained glass windows and towering spires. The air was filled with tangible excitement and expectation as guests dressed in their finest gear, eager to witness the marriage of two souls in love. My great friend Sarah was among the guests, and her contagious energy heightened the excitement for the occasion.

The wedding ceremony was held at a gorgeous church in the city's heart. With its exquisite beauty and rich history, the church offered a magnificent backdrop for the couple's wedding. Its high ceilings, rich decorations, and superb ambience gave the event a feeling of grandeur and solemnity, making it a truly unique experience for those who attended. Sarah and I found our seats and marvelled at the rich elements of the cathedral's interior as we waited for the ceremony to begin.

This location was chosen for its classic elegance and spiritual importance. The couple had always wanted to exchange vows at a place of worship that meant something to them, and the cathedral wonderfully captured their vision. Furthermore, the cathedral's prominent location made it readily available to visitors from near and far, allowing them to join in the couple's ecstatic celebration.

The wedding ceremony was a poignant and very symbolic event, full of genuine moments and meaningful gestures. No one in the audience could keep a dry eye as the bride made her big entry, flanked by her proud father. Sarah and I exchanged heartfelt looks as we saw the exchange of vows, accompanied by the powerful sounds of a live choir. With prayers and well wishes from family and friends, the service ended with a victorious parade down the aisle for the newlyweds.

Sarah and I were filled with amazement and appreciation for the occasion's beauty and seriousness during the whole ceremony, and from the magnificent splendour of the church to the passionate exchanging of vows, every moment appeared to be imbued with awe and amazement. As we glanced at the faces of family and friends gathering to celebrate this fantastic event, we couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to witness such a precious time in the lives of two individuals we loved greatly.

Finally, being there at this wedding was an extraordinary occasion that warmed and delighted our hearts. The cathedral's majestic splendour, the poignant service, and the overpowering sense of love and togetherness in the air made it a day we will remember forever. It was a celebration of faith, love, and dedication that served as a constant reminder of the eternal ability of love to bind people together in a way that lasts a lifetime.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: Attended Wedding Cue Card Follow-up Questions

Q1. do you believe weddings have evolved throughout time how.

Weddings have altered throughout time. Historically, weddings were more conventional and ceremonial, strictly adhering to local norms and rituals. On the other hand, non-traditional locations, themes, and ceremonies have become increasingly popular as couples choose more customised and distinctive weddings in recent years.

Q2. What importance do you believe cultural customs have in weddings?

Cultural customs are essential in weddings since they are frequently founded in history, religion, and societal expectations. These customs offer significance and symbolism to the ceremony and help couples connect with their cultural background and identity. Cultural traditions, such as exchanging vows, wearing traditional garb, and performing ceremonial dances, all contribute to the couple's and their families' sense of continuity and belonging.

Q3. How do you believe weddings help families bond?

To participate in the delight of the newlyweds, weddings bring together family members from near and far. They are a time of celebration and joy. Organising and getting ready for a wedding frequently involves family members, encouraging collaboration and teamwork. Furthermore, weddings allow families not seeing each other often to reunite and establish ties.

Q4. What qualities do you believe make a wedding memorable?

A memorable wedding reflects the couple's distinct personality and love story. The sincere moments and meaningful actions make a lasting impact, not the event's grandeur or opulence. The real moments of pleasure and love make a wedding unforgettable, whether via a moving vow exchange, moving speeches from family and friends, or surreal surprises that add a little enchantment to the day.

Q5. What influence do you believe social media has had on weddings?

Social media has dramatically influenced weddings, from the initial planning phase to how we film and share our special day. Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest are becoming indispensable resources for couples looking to interact with suppliers, get ideas, and keep their guests updated. To improve the visitor experience, couples may also use social media to construct customised wedding websites, RSVP systems, and hashtag campaigns.

Q6. What role do you believe music plays at weddings?

Music is essential for creating the tone and ambience during a wedding. Music elicits emotions and creates memorable moments in various settings, including the recessional and processional music during the ceremony and the first dance and celebration songs at the reception. Songs that are meaningful to a couple and represent their personality and love story are frequently chosen by them.

Q7. How do you believe destination weddings vary from regular ones?

Destination weddings are different from typical weddings in various ways. First, they frequently take place in unusual or gorgeous settings, such as medieval castles, tropical beaches, or stunning rural locales, offering a distinctive background for the celebration. Second, destination weddings often have smaller guest lists since travel and lodging costs may limit participation.

Q8. What influence do you believe the pandemic has had on weddings?

The pandemic has significantly influenced weddings, leading many couples to postpone, downgrade, or rethink their plans. Social alienation and prohibitions on huge gatherings have resulted in more minor, more personal rituals and virtual festivities. Many couples have chosen outdoor settings, escapes, or micro-weddings to adhere to health and safety regulations.

Q9. Do you believe weddings are about the couple or the guests? Why?

While honouring the couple's love and devotion is the primary goal of the occasion, visitors are also taken into account. While the couple's tastes and wants should come first, providing a fun and meaningful moment for guests is crucial. This might include thoughtful details such as personalised invites, luxurious lodgings, and exquisite food and beverages.

Q10. How do you believe wedding traditions differ between cultures?

Weddings vary greatly across civilisations, reflecting each community's unique customs, traditions, and beliefs. Each culture celebrates love and togetherness uniquely, from ceremonies and rituals to clothes, cuisine, and music. Indian weddings, for example, are noted for their brilliant colours, complex ceremonies, and joyful atmosphere, whereas traditional Japanese weddings are distinguished by simplicity, elegance, and respect for history.

IELTS Speaking Part 2 & 3 Topic: Describe a wedding that you have attended.

I am at the age when each of my friends started to tie the knot with their beloved ones, which reminds me how grown up we all are but at the same time is a true blessing . Weddings have always made me dreamy because you can feel that love is in the air . One of the most beautiful and intimate weddings I’ve ever attended was Anna’s, my classmate in high school.

The Anna I knew from high school was a true embodiment of traditional women: feminine, delicate , caring and wholeheartedly devoted and I had no doubt her wedding would be the same the minute I received the invitation. It came as no surprise that the reception hall was completed covered with the pastel pink color, from many bouquets of roses, balloons, table cloths and other decorations. It should have looked like a 6-year-old birthday party, on the contrary, that light and feminine color surprisingly created a delightful and congenial atmosphere for the wedding. There were not too many people at the wedding because the groom and bride wanted to keep it simple, yet intimate and meaningful, which I couldn’t agree more. The ceremony was so emotional when the couple took an oath and exchanged wedding rings that I could have sworn I saw tears shined in their eyes . The whole ballroom erupted in endless applause and whistles when the groom landed a passionate kiss on his woman’s lips as the pastor announced them as husband and wife – one of the most magnificent moments I’ve ever witnessed and Anna could easily be the most beautiful and happiest bride I’ve ever seen in a glamorous baby pink gown and bohemian hairstyle. I also met a couple of friends in high school which made me feel like we were having a reunion and it was great to know after all those years, we could still talk and share this special moment together.

QUESTION FOR PART 3

1. Do you often attend weddings?

Not really at the moment since I’ve recently graduated and most of my friends are at the same age at me. However, some has already married and I was also invited once or twice. As a romantic person, weddings always make me nervous and exciting at the same time since you can feel love is in the air.

2. How do you think of the perfect age for marriage?

I have had countless debates with my friends and we have different ideas regarding when is the ideal age to get settled. I, together with some girls, agree that it should be above 30 for both men and women while others flatly contradict us by saying people should get married as soon as possible even though they have nothing. Some may find it too late to tie a knot at the age of 30 but I cannot see the point of living together with more bills to pay and more mouths to feed without having a career and stable income, which is one of the most common reason for separation among married couples.

Settled (adj) if you have a settled way of life, you stay permanently in one place or job or with one person

3. Do women prefer to be single or to be married?

Women nowadays have a more advanced mindset than they used to a few decades ago, which is why not so many left still bother about being single anymore. Instead, they enjoy their single lives and pamper themselves with great food and fine clothes. Modern women don’t need a man to be her anchor anymore since they are independent and confident enough to take on the world herself. They go out and make money instead of staying at home knowing nothing but taking care of their kids and depending on their husband.

Pamper (verb) to look after someone very well, especially by making them feel very comfortable or by giving them nice things

4. Why has the divorce rate increased over time in modern life?

It’s noteworthy that that divorce rate in modern life is far higher than they used to, which is not a positive trend to look forward for. Reasons for such separations vary depending on irreconcilable families’ issues which could be financial problem, disagreement on how to raise their children or worse, infidelity.

Irreconcilable (adj) can’t find a way to become friendly again after disagreement.

Essay on “A Wedding Party You Recently Attended” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

A Wedding Party You Recently Attended

The marriage of my friends brother came off in Nov. I was cordially invited to attend that. It was the grandest marriage, I had ever attended. It afforded great joy and mirth to every member of the procession. It is an unforgettable experience.

On the day of marriage, the house of my friend was tastefully decorated with multi colored flowers, bunting and balloons. A served with juice, sweets, dry fruits and coffee. In the evening at about 4 p.m., some ceremonies, prior to the departure of the Barat were performed. Everybody was putting on his best suit. There was joy and cheer everywhere.

The priest put a coronet decked with flowers on the bridegroom’s head. The women started singing songs. The bridegroom was made to ride a mare decked with ornaments’ of silver. The best band of the city created sweet sensations by its tunes of modern films. The Barat started on foot towards the bride’s house. It was at a distance of half a mile. The party of jolly young boys and girls began to dance and twist to the tunes of the band. There was a drum beater surrounded by lust young bachelors chancing and jumping at the head of the barat, crackers were also let off. The on lookers were looking at the Barat with eager eyes from both the sides of the roads.

The Barat reached near the bride’s house. Multi colored bulbs, flowers and buntings decorated the house and it looked as if it were a place in paradise. The seating arrangement was made under a very big canopy. The Barat received the heartiest reception.

The priest recited verses from the scriptures. The bride’s father and bride groom’s father embraced each other amidst shouts. The automatic camera took photographs. The bride groom was made to ride a mare decked with ornaments of silver. The best band of the city created sweet sensations by its tunes of modern films. The Barat started on foot towards the bride’s house. It was at a distance of half a mile.

The marriage was solemnized amidst Vedic mantra’s before the holy fire. In the early dawn the bride parted from her parents with tears in her eyes to start a new life in her in laws house.

Essay on Indian Wedding

Students are often asked to write an essay on Indian Wedding in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on Indian Wedding

Introduction.

Indian weddings are vibrant, filled with rituals and celebrations. They are grand affairs, often stretching over several days.

Pre-Wedding Rituals

The wedding day.

The wedding day starts with the bride and groom getting ready. The groom arrives at the wedding venue with his procession, called Baraat.

Rituals and Traditions

The couple exchanges garlands in a ceremony called Jaimala. They then take seven rounds around the sacred fire, known as Saat Phere.

250 Words Essay on Indian Wedding

Indian weddings, an embodiment of cultural richness and diversity, are grandiose events marked by vibrant traditions and rituals. They are not just a union of two individuals, but rather a fusion of two families, symbolizing love, commitment, and togetherness.

The pre-wedding rituals commence with the Roka ceremony, a formal announcement of the alliance. This is followed by the Sangeet, where families celebrate with music and dance. The Mehendi ceremony involves the application of henna on the bride’s hands and feet, signifying prosperity and love.

The Wedding Ceremony

The wedding ceremony begins with the Baraat, the groom’s procession, accompanied by music and dance. The bride and groom exchange garlands in the Jaimala ceremony, signifying their acceptance of each other. The core ritual, the Saat Phere or the seven circumambulations around the sacred fire, marks the couple’s vows to each other.

Post-Wedding Rituals

Post-wedding rituals include the Vidai, marking the bride’s farewell, filled with emotions and tears. This is followed by the Grihapravesh, the welcoming of the bride into her new home.

Symbolism and Significance

Each ritual in an Indian wedding has a profound symbolic meaning rooted in ancient traditions, emphasizing mutual respect, equality, and sacrifice. The grandeur of Indian weddings reflects the country’s deep-rooted customs and the importance of familial bonds.

500 Words Essay on Indian Wedding

The grandeur of indian weddings.

Indian weddings are a grand affair, a vibrant blend of customs, traditions, and emotions. They are not just a union of two individuals but a fusion of two families, two cultures, and sometimes even two different communities. With an array of rituals, Indian weddings epitomize the richness of the country’s cultural heritage, offering a visual spectacle that is unparalleled.

The Pre-Wedding Ceremonies

The pre-wedding ceremonies are an integral part of Indian weddings. The ‘Roka’ or ‘Sagai’ marks the beginning of the wedding process, where both families exchange gifts and blessings. The ‘Haldi’ ceremony involves applying turmeric paste to the bride and groom, believed to ward off evil and bring prosperity. The ‘Mehendi’ ceremony, where the bride’s hands and feet are adorned with intricate henna designs, is another significant event. These ceremonies are not just about following traditions but are also a means to bring families closer and ensure everyone’s participation in the joyous occasion.

The Post-Wedding Ceremonies

The cultural diversity.

India’s cultural diversity reflects in its weddings too. A Punjabi wedding is known for its vivacious ‘Bhangra’ dance, while a Bengali wedding is unique for the ‘Shubho Drishti’ ritual, where the bride and groom look at each other amidst the sound of conch shells. A South Indian wedding is recognized for its simplicity and the exchange of garlands, while a Rajasthani wedding is famous for its royal ambiance and colorful attires.

What a $600m wedding says about India’s attitude to wealth

The ambani nuptials enticed everyone from justin bieber and shah rukh khan to john kerry.

Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant pose during their pre-wedding ceremony in Mumbai, India

W HEN BEYONCÉ performed at a pre-wedding party for Isha Ambani in 2018, India was agog. Merely receiving an invitation conferred bragging rights on status-obsessed business leaders and politicians. The cost of the nuptials, with countless ancillary events, was said to be in excess of $100m. That is a staggering sum for almost anyone—but not the Ambani family, which owns a controlling interest in Reliance Industries , the country’s most valuable company, dominating everything from telecoms to oil refining. Despite some anti-rich finger-wagging, many Indians appear to have viewed the event, which even the maharajas of yore would envy, as evidence that India—and Indian business—could once again glitter.

You might therefore have expected the months-long wedding celebrations of Isha’s brother Anant, which concluded on July 14th, to provoke a similarly positive response. It featured even more international stars (Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and Rihanna), more bling (outfits embroidered in gold along with enough golf-ball sized rubies, diamonds and emeralds) and a higher price tag (the figure $600m has been bandied about). It contributed handsomely to India’s booming matrimony business, which generates perhaps $130bn a year in revenues (only food makes up a bigger share of Indians’ retail spending). Behind the innumerable beautiful saris at the Ambani wedding were thousands of designers, tailors and seamstresses; behind the dances and elaborate backdrops were thousands of choreographers, musicians and carpenters. The wedding filled hotels, private jets, a fleet of golf carts and at least one cruise ship.

Yet instead of awe and pride, the reaction this time was considerably more mixed. As the Juggernaut , an online publication, summed it up, it “shows us the power of Asia’s richest family. But it also gave us the ick.”

It wasn’t just the Juggernaut that felt a bit icky. India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi , did make an appearance at one of the events leading up to the ceremony. But the Gandhi family, which leads the left-of-centre political opposition, pointedly did not. Foreign political leaders who attended were mostly former ones (Tony Blair, Boris Johnson) and seemed an odd fit. John Kerry, America’s former climate envoy, was rubbing shoulders with Amin Nasser, chief executive of Saudi Aramco, the world’s biggest oil company, at an event bankrolled by wealth derived primarily from Reliance’s giant petrochemicals operation that, to complicate matters further, refines oil from Russia .

Indeed, Anant’s extravaganza looks likely to be the last of its kind for a while. That is not just because he was the last unwed child of Mukesh, the Ambani clan’s patriarch, and because no one (with the possible exception of the family of Gautam Adani, India’s second-richest industrialist) can match the Ambanis’ deep pockets. Mr Modi’s government has become increasingly aware of voters’ distaste for rising inequality, which may have cost his Bharatiya Janata Party its absolute majority in a general election earlier this year.

Strong GDP growth and a soaring stockmarket have created more wealth for India’s rich but not that many new jobs or wage gains for its poor. Between Isha’s and Anant’s weddings India’s GDP per person rose from $2,000 to $2,500 (not adjusted for inflation). By comparison, in the same period the Ambani family fortune swelled from $47bn to $122bn.

More gallingly to many Indians, it has shot up by $10bn in the past month alone. Reliance’s share price rose by 8% after the company’s Jio telecoms business raised prices for its 470m customers. To the Ambanis, this may have made their $600m celebrations look like a bargain. To almost everyone else, it makes them look disconnected from India’s economic and social reality. ■

Correction (July 17th 2024): John Kerry is America’s former climate envoy, not its current one, as we originally claimed.

Bollywood Stars, Prime Ministers and the Kardashians Attend the Ambani Wedding

After months of lavish prewedding festivities that have captured the attention of onlookers worldwide, Anant Ambani, the youngest son of India’s richest man, married Radhika Merchant in Mumbai.

By Sadiba Hasan

Reporting from Mumbai, India

On Friday afternoon, Sneh Zala, 24, waited for celebrities to arrive on the red carpet for the wedding ceremony of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of India’s richest man, and Radhika Merchant, a daughter of a fellow business tycoon.

The red carpet was set up in a room adorned with lanterns and red and orange garlands and floral arrangements. Mr. Zala, a photographer working for Manav Manglani , one of Bollywood’s top paparazzi, had already shot several of the couple’s prewedding functions, which began in March .

It’s not every day that Kim and Khloé Kardashian, John Cena and Boris Johnson gather in Mumbai for an Indian wedding. All four were in attendance on Friday at the Jio World Centre in traditional Indian garb.

Mr. Zala was one of about 100 media members clamoring next to the red carpet, not a common addition at most weddings. But given the sheer number of celebrities present — Bollywood superstars, several members of the Indian cricket team, former prime ministers and billionaire businessmen — and the fabulous Indian clothes on display, a runway seemed in order.

When Mr. Cena came out wearing a baby-blue sherwani, one photographer shouted, “Welcome to India.”
