Each of us has a favourite location where we can find fulfilment and happiness. I also have a favourite place where I enjoy spending the majority of my time. My house is where I like to be. I enjoy spending my time there. It has a lovely and tranquil environment. My house is in the centre of a city. I live with my mother, father, two brothers, and two sisters. We each have our room. There isn't a place more significant than my house, in my opinion. I enjoy being at home. It energises me and lifts my spirits. Whenever I'm at home, I enjoy myself.

My Favourite Place Essay

200 Words Essay On My Favourite Place

Everybody has a favourite location, such as a garden, a house, a playground, etc. My hometown, though, is my favourite place, and I love being in my home.

My Hometown

My town is my entire world. I was raised there. I have a lot of lovely and endearing memories of it. I used to play there with my friends and cousins during my early years. In my community, everyone is cordial. My town has many trees. I can only think of one spot where I enjoy spending time - my town. My visits home provide me with much delight and satisfaction. In my town, practically every amenity is available, and the roads and bridges are macadamized.

Additionally, the community has access to medical facilities. The local government also provides excellent maintenance for the public transportation system. In my community, emphasis is placed primarily on education. Everyone wants access to high-quality education, regardless of gender. The neighbourhood helps out with the needs of poor kids. I hold this place- My Town, in high regard.

Everyone has a distinct favourite location. It is in keeping with their preferences and interests. Similarly, my favourite location reflects my interests, and I love being at my favourite place.

500 Words Essay On My Favourite Place

My grandmother's house in my village has often been one of my favourite places to be. Everyone has always held a special place in their hearts for their grandmother's home. We spent numerous summers with our granny when we were younger. Her home appeared to stand out from the rest in some way that made it special.

Enjoyment time

I enjoy playing outside while picking fresh fruits from the trees and eating freshly prepared vegetables. Frequently, I help my grandmother sow seeds in the garden. There are several reasons why I value this place so highly. There is something incredibly unique about the house. I feel at ease and relaxed here.

Why I Love My Grandmother’s House

First of all, the atmosphere at my grandmother’s house is distinctly different. I am at peace here. There is no noise or pollution because it is in a village. Additionally, there are no traffic jams here. I always wake early so that I can go for a walk and take in some fresh air. My body and mind are both revitalised by the fresh air. My grandmother makes me a delicious breakfast. In the evening, my whole family gathers to share our life stories as our grandfather makes tea.

My grandparents' home also has a small garden with grass that is a vibrant green colour. In the garden, there are swings as well. There, we also like playing entertaining games with our relatives, including water fights. We frequently spend the evenings sitting on the roof, looking up at the stars.

Holidays At Grandmother’s House

Over the holidays, there is always a lot of laughing and playing games at grandma’s house. Uncle's loud, recognisable giggle may be heard for miles. My aunt never misses an opportunity to comment on his laughter. The living room of our grandmother's home is where she regularly can be seen sitting and gazing out the window, close to the front entrance. She sits at this location to read the newspaper daily and sip on her old-fashioned steaming black coffee.

She can lose hours watching the birds fly to the feeder next to the window in her living room. Most birds have names that our grandmother is familiar with and recognises. She never skips a chance to observe the squirrels. Everything blossoms, and there are fresh flowers everywhere throughout the summer. In our town, the natural beauty is at an all-time high, and it's impossible to keep your eyes off the stunning surroundings. A pond is located behind the house. My cousins and I go fishing in the pond.

The village's residents lead simple, healthy lives. People care for one another and are always available. They make a lot of effort to maintain the facility's cleanliness because they care about it. We always look forward to our summer vacation so we may visit Grandma and Grandpa. Anyone who has met them will attest to their humility. All of this adds up to why I love my grandparents house and why it is my favourite place.

Table of Contents

Introduction

We all have that one place that we escape to when things get too overwhelming. Where do you go when you need to relax? This essay talks about my favorite holiday destination, the beach.

I actually wrote this piece to once again remind myself that it’s okay (and necessary!) to sometimes take a break, be reminded of what really matters in life.

Descriptive Essay Example of My Favourite Beach

We all have some favorite places that we love to visit during the holidays. The beautiful scenes that we come across are a welcome reprieve for our tired minds after a long period of work.

Finding My Zen at the Beach

For me, the beach is the best place to be. Others may think differently due to unique preferences and tastes. Personally, I find that the seaside is a unique choice for a holiday destination. There is nothing quite as calming as the bright blue hues of the ocean. The wind dances with the waves, causing them to move almost rhythmically, capturing the attention of the vacationer.

Another reason why I love the beach is that I enjoy swimming. I particularly love doing this with my friends as the company makes swimming more fun and provides a great way for us to bond.

Sunsets at the Beach

Another stunning visual to be enjoyed by the seaside is the sunset. I truly enjoy the play of colors as day transitions into night – from dainty pinks to fiery oranges, even to rich purples. I find this picturesque experience exceptionally dynamic. It makes something inside me come alive. I don’t have this experience anywhere else.

One great thing about staying at the beach is that there is something to be enjoyed during the day and during the evening. I love that the beach stays open most hours as this gives me flexibility. I can choose when I want to visit and not have to follow a strict schedule, which works well when I’m on vacation.

The Beach During Evenings

I particularly love heading out at nightfall to visit the shoreline. The beach is very calm, peaceful, tranquil, and relaxing. It helps me unwind and takes away the stress that plagues me at work. Looking at the night sky with all the bright stars and the moon causes me to feel light-hearted.

Silhouette of Man Standing Near Body of Water

The best part for me is once night sets in, I can lay in the sand and stare up at the sky. I just linger there with my toes in the soft sand and think of all the things I am grateful for. I also give thanks to the Almighty Creator who made these majestic works of art.

I can only hope that I get to do this more often. My dream is to be able to frequent the most beautiful beaches in the world, to revel in the peace that they offer.

Make Time for Rest

These days, people are so busy with work and other obligations that they forget to pause and take a breather.

The tendency for many passionate workaholics is they keep scheduling a time to take a break, only to postpone it when something urgent captures their attention. While some of these are valid reasons to reschedule, most are really just convenient excuses to stay busy.

The glorification of busyness is the sad reality that keeps people from being healthy and well. We work our bodies to death and don’t give ourselves a chance to come up for air. At some point in our lives, we have been sold a false idea of productivity: that we have to work 24/7, and that taking a break is a luxury.

Breathers should not be seen as luxuries but as necessities. Rest is actually a productivity strategy. The way to truly accomplish things excellently is to do so from a place of rest. Work smart and you check off your to-do list without the anxiety and the dread. Work hard and you will find yourself resenting the actual work because it’s just exhausting.

Don’t wait until you are burned out before you take a break. Schedule regular timeouts for yourself and use those times to “escape” to a place that helps you take a breath. Your soul, your work and your other commitments will thank you for it.

Whether it’s the sandy beaches for you or the mountains or any other hotspot, my hope for you is that you will also be able to find your sanctuary and safe space. Believe me when I say you need it and deserve it.

200 Words Short Essay About My Favorite Place (Beach)

Where do always I go when I want to feel relaxed? My family and friends all know that I head to where the ocean is. The beach is my most favorite place on earth. There is something magical about this place that makes me feel lighter immediately.

My favorite time to go is during the summer when the beautiful colors of the sky are most vibrant. That the sunset is amazing is an understatement. I could watch the sun go down after a blazing hot day over and over again. The gradually-changing hues are a glorious sight to behold.

The beach is my favorite place to find inspiration. I often find that when I get stuck in a creative rut, the extraordinary natural elements at my favorite spots instantly rejuvenate my mental stamina. If only I could go back every week, I would. Just watching the waves move in sync with one another is the best way to recharge for me.

Relaxation is important for everyone. There are other places that I also find charming, but I’ve found my sweet spot by the seashore – I hope you find yours too.

It also helps the writers to express what they have witnessed. Giving words to experiences contributes to polished writing styles. So, as easy as it might sound, such as "where is your favorite place," essays are crucial for developing writing skills.

essay on favourite place to visit

Here is a list of "my favorite place essay topics." You can take inspiration from these and create your essays.

  • My grandma's house
  • The resort that we visited last summers
  • New Jersey- My favorite place
  • The backyard of my old house
  • Our Farmhouse in Texas
  • Trip to Bali
  • Disney Land
  • My treehouse
  • My uncle's place

How To Start A Favorite Place Essay

You can begin by defining your favorite place. Though this might sound a bit difficult to many of you out there, it isn't. Imagine or visualize the place. Try to remember the elements and the aromas. The people who made it the place that you can never forget. Once you have jogged down the memory lane, start by giving the background and then diverge on the details.

Outline writing

An outline is the most crucial part of an essay. It leads the path for the writer and will save you from all the tumbles and wrong turns. Here is an example of the outline:

  • Introduction
  • Body Paragraphs
  • Paragraph 1
  • Paragraph 2
  • Paragraph 3

Tips concerning writing a favorite place essay introduction

An introduction is a paragraph that determines the success of your essay. Either you succeed in grabbing your reader's attention or lose it entirely for several reasons. Always start your essay with an attention-capturing hook. Do not dive into the experience part. Stick to a hook and the background of the place. The ending line of the introduction paragraph will pave the way for the first body paragraph. Try to check some "my favorite place essay examples" to get a gist of how introductions are written.

When it comes to body paragraphs, please keep all of them of equal length. An essay of 3 to 5 paragraphs other than the introduction and conclusion is ideal. Try to use transition words to skip redundancies and to maintain flow. A body paragraph of 100-150 words, in this case, is enough.

Conclusions are like showstoppers. They are not meant to dull, neither do they deserve the "get it done with" approach. You have to finish strong. Keep it general. It is supposed to be a pal of your introduction paragraph. However, this friend does the opposite. Yes, it is the one who makes excuses and leaves. Do not summarize the entire essay. Just emphasize the points that were the main highlights of your paragraphs.

Hey! Do not make the mistake of turning your work in just yet. Consider making sure that your work goes through all of these processes mentioned below before the final submission:

Essay Revision

Now that your college essay about favorite place is written go back to the start and revise your content where it is required. Here you will be checking your essay for the correctness of focus and whether the audience's needs are adequately met. Other than this, review the way of organization. Does your essay have enough paragraphs to separate every new idea from one another? Does each paragraph make sense with the one to follow? The transitions have to be smooth as well to nail this literary piece. It is quite often for students to lose focus halfway through their essays, and they keep circling the main idea but fail to execute what is precisely asked of them. Recheck for these relevancy issues in your essay about place.

Essay Proofreading

This activity demands the author to go through the "describe your favorite place essay" to identify any possible mistakes that you might have failed to correct in the first attempt. These are usually surface errors like spelling mistakes, typos, grammatical errors. Also, check for punctuation and other formatting issues.

Make Citations

This is one step that many students dread as it can get boring at times. Depending on the format of your essay, you might have to quote the references that you used throughout your "one of my favorite places" essay. These will be placed at the very end. It will ensure the credibility of your work and give it a more professional look. If mentioned in the instructions, skipping this step can lead to a reduction in your overall grade.

Short Example of a College Essay About My Favorite Place

my favorite place free essay example

Topic: My Grandma's House

Whenever I jog down memory lane, my grandma's house is the one that I happen to miss a lot. It is one of my favorite places from childhood. Located on the outskirts of the city, it was the most peaceful summer spot for us. Just like my grandma's charismatic personality, this house, too, was very special. There was always something about it that set it apart from all of the places that I have been to.

The summers called for an extended stay at Grandma's. It was a family gathering spot for all of us. Whether it was birthdays, graduations, or simple barbeques, Grandma's it was! The entire house was filled with laughter. The sweet aroma of apple pie lurked around the rooms. Aunt Beth always made her famous chicken wings. Uncle Murphy's chilled mint margaritas washed down this dish. However, it was never an evening until we dug into our grandma's signature apple pie.

Our grandma has dedicated a kid's sleepover room. In this way, all of the cousins stayed in one room. She also brought midnight treats. The fun did not end yet. Her bedtime stories were the most awaited part of every single day. We used to form a tent using all of the blankets. She would then cuddle with us and narrate the most intriguing stories. It was a whole experience. The story was not always goody-goody. She took us on an emotional roller coaster. There were a lot of hidden lessons and morals in it.

The house has a huge backyard. Our grandma used to grow all sorts of herbs and veggies. "The real food," she called it. Unlike others, she used to enjoy the food supply that came out of her garden. We used to love her version of the famous "ratatouille." She used to add a little meat and sprinkled it with parmesan cheese. It was an otherworldly dish. The titbits never went to waste. She was a food magician, and that enabled her to make new dishes out of leftovers.

The front porch was her favorite spot. We used to sit there for hours. Our discussions spiraled into different topics. She never missed an opportunity to feed a bird or a squirrel. The entire neighborhood respected her for her charm and kindness. She was indeed the ace of our hearts. Her place was welcoming to all. No one in our family would ever trade it for a weekend on a hill station.

There are countless memories of my grandma's house. Whenever our family gathers around, we always talk about the occasions and the incidents that happened. Though she is not here today, her house still stands to be the best place for us. It is the same summer spot that we will never turn down since it is our favorite place.

My Favorite Place: The Beach

Everyone has that favorite place that he or she likes visiting, particularly for relaxation or vacation. The beautiful scenery that is characteristic of the most splendid beaches across the world helps individuals to relieve their minds by making them unwind after stressing or extended periods of working. Personally, I prefer to visit the beach to think, relax, rejuvenate, and have fun. However, other people might prefer other places based on their tastes and preferences. As compared to other places people can visit, the beach offers a distinctive, peaceful place because it enables one to experience nature in its raw form. Besides, the beauty of the beach is enhanced by the water waves and wind gusts that make accentuate the experience. Given that swimming is one of my hobbies, the beach is the natural place for me to be. My favorite place to visit is the beach because it serves as a place for observing beautiful sceneries, experiencing the forces of nature, exercising, mingling with friends, and relaxing.

To start with, without specifying a particular beach, beaches are known to have beautiful, captivating sceneries that kindle relaxation. As outlined by Hengky, the unique scenery of beaches is one of the key reasons that tourists travel thousands of miles to visit specific ones (1). Personally, I work in a busy Human Resource consultation company where we receive a constant flow of corporate and individual clients. After working forty hours a week, I long for a peaceful, quiet, yet scenic place I can rest and relax. Over the years, I have found the beach to be the perfect place to achieve this desire. Besides, some beaches operate night and day, which makes it convenient for me to access them in my free time.

Secondly, I love the beach because of its positive effect on the brain’s wellbeing and a healthier mental and physical state. Various studies have established that beaches possess "sea vitamin” that helps the body to feel calmer despite the existence of life and work stresses (Heiser 1). For example, the findings from English Census data appearing in the Health Place Journal indicated that people who reside close to the beach or visit frequently tend to possess better mental and physical health than those who do not. To further illustrate, Hawaii has been ranked as the happiest state in the United States six times by the Gallup poll since 2008 (Heiser 1). I am a health enthusiast who does not take such findings lightly and I visit the beach to exploit the benefits of the "sea vitamin.”

In addition, I feel that the experience and tranquility of the beach help me to reinvigorate my energy and enhance my moods after a week of exertion. Scholars have established that just being close to the water, feeling the sand, and enjoying the breeze make people feel rejuvenated and relaxed (De Kwant 131). To date, I have childhood memories around water; scouring for marine life at the beach, walking barefoot on the soft sand, and feeling the distinctive weightlessness when floating on the seawater. After having a swim in the blue water and taking a power nap along the beach, I always feel like I am ready to take on any challenge. The feeling is simply indescribable, which makes the beach stand out for me as the place I would desire to visit always.

The beach will always be my favorite place to visit because of its picturesque appearance, tranquility, rejuvenating properties, and overall therapy for a tired brain. Ever since I was young, I have preferred to relax at the beach and take in its natural aura that helps me to think while simultaneously enjoying the cool breeze and watching the waves beating against the shoreline. While I do not have a specific beach that I prefer, I feel that the serenity of the beach is what makes it stand out from the rest of the places.

My Favourite Place Essay 4: 500 Words

Nestled in the heart of a bustling city, my favourite place serves as an escape from the chaos that surrounds it. In this haven of serenity, I am able to disconnect from the demands of daily life and reconnect with myself. Whether I am enjoying a quiet moment of solitude or sharing the beauty with loved ones, the botanical garden offers a space to reflect, rejuvenate, and find inspiration. I often bring a book or a sketchpad, finding a peaceful spot to indulge in my favorite pastimes while surrounded by nature’s wonders.

During different seasons, the garden undergoes a metamorphosis, showcasing the cyclical nature of growth and change. In spring, cherry blossoms paint the landscape in delicate shades of pink, while in summer, roses bloom in vibrant hues, filling the air with their intoxicating fragrance. Autumn brings a tapestry of fiery orange and red leaves, and in winter, a sprinkle of frost adds a magical touch to the dormant plants.

Leaving the garden, I am revitalized and ready to face the bustling city once again. The experience has reminded me of the importance of finding balance in life, of taking the time to appreciate and nurture the natural world around us. The botanical garden serves as a constant source of solace and inspiration, and I am grateful for its existence amidst the chaos of the city.

Editor’s Note: We know that many of you are looking for help writing travel experience essays for school or simply writing about a trip for your friends or family. To inspire you and help you write your next trip essay—whether it’s an essay about a trip with family or simply a way to remember your best trip ever (so far)—we enlisted the help of Professor Kathleen Boardman, whose decades of teaching have helped many college students learn the fine art of autobiography and life writing. Here’s advice on how to turn a simple “my best trip” essay into a story that will inspire others to explore the world.

Welcome home! Now that you’re back from your trip, you’d like to share it with others in a travel essay. You’re a good writer and a good editor of your work, but you’ve never tried travel writing before. As your potential reader, I have some advice and some requests for you as you write your travel experience essay.

Trip Essays: What to Avoid

Please don’t tell me everything about your trip. I don’t want to know your travel schedule or the names of all the castles or restaurants you visited. I don’t care about the plane trip that got you there (unless, of course, that trip is the story).

I have a friend who, when I return from a trip, never asks me, “How was your trip?” She knows that I would give her a long, rambling answer: “… and then … and then … and then.” So instead, she says, “Tell me about one thing that really stood out for you.” That’s what I’d like you to do in this travel essay you’re writing.

The Power of Compelling Scenes

One or two “snapshots” are enough—but make them great. Many good writers jump right into the middle of their account with a vivid written “snapshot” of an important scene. Then, having aroused their readers’ interest or curiosity, they fill in the story or background. I think this technique works great for travel writing; at least, I would rather enjoy a vivid snapshot than read through a day-to-day summary of somebody’s travel journal.

Write About a Trip Using Vivid Descriptions

Take your time. Tell a story. So what if you saw things that were “incredible,” did things that were “amazing,” observed actions that you thought “weird”? These words don’t mean anything to me unless you show me, in a story or a vivid description, the experience that made you want to use those adjectives.

I’d like to see the place, the people, or the journey through your eyes, not someone else’s. Please don’t rewrite someone else’s account of visiting the place. Please don’t try to imitate a travel guide or travelogue or someone’s blog or Facebook entry. You are not writing a real travel essay unless you are describing, as clearly and honestly as possible, yourself in the place you visited. What did you see, hear, taste, say? Don’t worry if your “take” on your experience doesn’t match what everyone else says about it. (I’ve already read what THEY have to say.)

The Importance of Self-Editing Your Trip Essay

Don’t give me your first draft to read. Instead, set it aside and then reread it. Reread it again. Where might I need more explanation? What parts of your account are likely to confuse me? (After all, I wasn’t there.) Where might you be wasting my time by repeating or rambling on about something you’ve already told me?

Make me feel, make me laugh, help me learn something. But don’t overdo it: Please don’t preach to me about broadening my horizons or understanding other cultures. Instead, let me in on your feelings, your change of heart and mind, even your fear and uncertainty, as you confronted something you’d never experienced before. If you can, surprise me with something I didn’t know or couldn’t have suspected.

You Can Do It: Turning Your Trip into a Great Travel Experience Essay

I hope you will take yourself seriously as a traveler and as a writer. Through what—and how—you write about just a small portion of your travel experience, show me that you are an interesting, thoughtful, observant person. I will come back to you, begging for more of your travel essays.

The Red Sea Reef present in Egypt is one of the most beautiful places in the world . The Red Sea constitutes almost 438 thousand kilometers squares of the area of the world. It is situated as a small bay in the famous ocean lying between Asia and Africa, known as Indian Ocean.  It comes under the list of the Eco-regions defined by WWF, making it the Global 200 region of the world. By being part of the Global 200 list mentioned by WWF, it comes under the category of endangered and exposed areas of the world. The Red Sea comes under this category though but still, the Red Sea Reef situated in Egypt is a place that must be visited in life for sure. Through this piece of writing a detailed image of the place will be conveyed to the readers so that they are able to visualize the place from the closest possible way.

My Favourite Place Beach:

At the shore of the Gulf of Aqaba, towards the south of Egypt, a series of resorts are present. Going to these resorts is the best way to enjoy the crystal clear water of the Red Sea Reef along the shore of Egypt. Visiting the place during daylight is breathtaking, as the brown and desert effect on one side and crystal clear blue water on the other side, make my favorite place, the beach a worth visiting place. This Red Sea is shared by many countries but the view from this coast is worth visiting.

During the daytime, it is an outstanding place to visit, like the sunshine on the desert at one side and on the pure and clear water on the other side is a view that can’t be found at any other place. The coast along the south of Sinai is also known as Red Sea Riviera, making up a perfect place to visit with family during vacations. The resorts are of two kinds, the old traditional types of resorts can be observed on the west side of the coast of the respective sea, whereas the old but beautifully designed resorts are more found in the eastern side of the sea.  However, there are still present some new ravishing resort towns in the western coast of the Red Sea Riviera.

The overall scene White boats, blue clear water, and the light brown desert create such a mesmerizing scenario overall to the people, who visit it. Spectacularly visible water colorful beautiful creatures of nature can be seen by peeping in the water. Just like a crystal shines when light hits it, the water of the Red Sea at this point also shines like this. The visibility of the water can also be conveyed by the example of crystal. As seen through the crystal is, as clear the water of Red Sea is.

Upon my visit to the place, the experience of standing along the side of the heavenly shore of Red Sea and looking in the blissful water was that moment of life, which made me go speechless for few seconds. This feeling is something that cannot be labeled at all as because the view of the exact point, where the desert and the seawater merge, leaves the person with no words. The scene is amazingly exotic and reflects the true natural beauty on the planet.

Mesmerizing view under the water left me with a magical wave. The sea-green or close to blue watercolor was mixed with green, brown, yellow, grey, red, and various bright and fresh colors from the underwater. The stretched reef and diverse beautiful species in the water is one of the reasons, which attract tourists all around the world to visit this place.

In addition to the sweet and harm-free species in the water, there are some dangerous and troublesome aspects too related to the coast of water, which are mentioned by the instructor to you when you are going to visit the place. Fire Corals is amongst the category, which makes it very painful for the people who ever tried to poke it or touch it. Raising your hand towards the stinging hydroids is also something, which must not be touched at all or otherwise will leave the person in much pain. However, the Red Sea animals are not dangerous to that extent, but are extremely gorgeous, having striking features, attracting people towards the zone. But there do exist, few toxic and deadly animals in the water, which should be kept away from eating.

My Favourite Place Essay Conclusion 100 words:

Upon my visit to the Red Sea Coast, I was also able to enjoy the tourist life of the place. Diving in the 22-degree water, relaxing the body in the peaceful spas, going deep under the water to witness the marine life with the help of snorkel, swimming in the clean fresh water, fishing the stunning colorful fish, and sightseeing at the sunset especially are those aspects, which make up the place ravishing for any visitor. One thing which I liked about this place, the most was swimming with the dolphins in the translucent water of the sea. The breathtaking and heart-throbbing place is a must-visit if your likeness is towards the nature and beauties of nature, because this exquisite place, adds up to the album of memories, some life-changing images and experiences.

Descriptive Essay: My Favorite Place

Coney island in my mind.

I would really love to visit Coney Island again. The place is far from the bustling city and getting there is already part of the adventure. One can take the tunnel or drive but whichever way you take when one arrives in the island, it’s like being transported in time. There is that feeling of de`javu one gets when you see the heart of the island for the first time. Maybe it is because of the old films that featured the amusement parks or because as a young child you have had countless dreams of coming here. The place is filled with old buildings and structures that remind us of how our parents and grandparents might have enjoyed the Thunderbolt and the mermaid shows and the parachute drop and all the other parks when they where younger.

The merry-go-round, which has been the logo of the island, has been embedded in the minds of my generation. One cannot fail to notice the romance in the air and the sweet butterfly kisses of past and present lovers who had spent a memorable day in the ride. The air is filled with childish adventure and laughter, that when one is walking the streets one would surely smile and be filled with joy.

The place is like a giant playground without the technologically advanced rides and shows of today’s theme parks. It offers pure delight and tons of fun. It is a place where everyone is invited to enjoy the sights and sounds of the place and be like children once again discover how easier it is to smile and throw our miseries away.

The whole island is an amusement park with candy stores, taverns, night shows and a magnificent boardwalk. The chatter of children’s voices, the happy shrieks of teens, and the smiles of everyone tells one why this place was and will always be America’s happy park. The smell of popcorn and hotdog as one walks the streets to the parks reminds us of simple days when our wants and desires were simpler. The people are friendly and in keeping with the amusement business are always ready to make your visit to the island worth remembering. When one strolls around the commercial center, one can do so leisurely without the need to see everything, to ride everything and taste everything in one day, one keeps coming back to Coney Island because it is removed from the hurried, impersonal and rudeness of the city.

In winter, the place is like a giant ice kingdom, where everything is glistening white and silent. During this time, one can feel the sadness of the city, how it has been suspended in time, and like a bear who sleeps in the winter, it wakes up in the spring. Sadly, not many people visit Coney Island these days. Recently, the magnificent Thunderbolt has fallen from its glory, quite literally. It has lost much of its famous rides and has been stripped of its former grandeur, but nevertheless will always be an icon in America’s culture. The more important it is that we visit Coney Island again, by doing so we will help keep it alive and be a living heritage to our children.

“Do you love travelling?” this is a statement that has been in the media for quite some time. The statement in some sense is a rhetoric question. Of course everybody loves travelling. Travelling has been a form of relaxation among many people. However, the destination of travelling varies with different people’s classification of fun. There are many places with which one cannot avoid visiting no matter how far such places can be. Tourist destinations are the most commonly visited places. For instance, Gatlinburg is considered to be one of the best places to visit due to its well-endowed forms of attractions as well as availability of beautiful sceneries. Gatlinburg, located in Sevier County in the United States of America, is considered to be one of the best tourist attraction destinations in the whole country. This is due to the fact that it has beautiful attractions as well as sceneries that are appealing to the eye. Some of the tourist attractions includes the Roaring Fork. This is considered to be the second most famous tourist attraction in Gatlinburg. For easier access, it is recommended that the visitors should turn off the leading parkway and then follow the nature historic nature trail road to Cherokee Orchard entry into the national park. This attraction site got its name from the exuberant mountain stream. It is also one of the faster and larger flowing mountain streams. It has been noted that when one drives through the road passing by, the inspiration behind the name would be seen. The place is characterized with Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. However, just before reaching the place, one would stop at Noah Bud ogle self-guiding nature trail which offers walking tour for authentic mountain farmstead as well as the adjoining hardwood forest. Some of the highlights includes a streamside tubmill as well as the Ogle’s handmade wooden cascade plumbing system. Just within the same vicinity, lies the trailhead for Grotto Falls. This is considered to be one of the most popular waterfalls. Generally, this place attracts thousands of people each due to its unique nature. Not only does the place have very many tourists’ attractions, it also has beautiful sceneries. For instance, the Smoky Mountains are characterized with many beautiful sceneries and scenic drives. The place is characterized with many sceneries like the birds, animals like the momma bears, a fawn, coyotes, found in the Cades part of the Great Smoky Mountains national park as well as the trouts. Another beautiful scenery is the presence of stoic trees. These trees form an awesome shape that attracts people to see across the horizon. The Smoky Mountains also have otters found in the rivers within the Smoky Mountains. Concisely, the area is rich of beautiful sceneries and attractions as evidenced with the information provided above. As a result of the various beautiful sceneries available in the city, the number of people who flow into the place has been increasing tremendously year after year. During the festive seasons, the place is usually full to capacity implying that the internal and domestic tourists have to make earlier trips so that they do not miss the opportunity of their lifetime. Similarly, because of its beautiful sceneries as well as attractions, it has become a common endpoint for many weddings and social gatherings. Therefore, Attraction is to Gatlinburg, Scenery is to Gatlinburg.

A statue of Notre Dame de France overlooking Le Puy-en-Velay in the Massif Central.

I’ve written about France for 20 years – here are my favourite places to visit

After a lifetime exploring the country’s cities, coast and countryside, our France expert chooses her personal highlights My favourite places to eat in France

When you can gaze on the salt pans of Guérande, near Nantes, cycle through lavender fields in Drôme, in the south-east, and bask in the splendour of the Cirque de Gavarnie in the Pyrénees, you have to wonder how France got so lucky with its diverse landscapes. Most recently, the volcanic landscape of the Massif Central captured my heart. The chain of extinct volcanoes runs south from the highest, Le Puy de Dôme (there’s a rack railway to the top) near Clermont-Ferrand.

South of the rugged peaks in Cantal, the town of Chaudes-Aigues has two hot springs – Europe’s hottest at 65C and 82C – that spurt from spouts in the town square. Two hours east, the extraordinary town of Le Puy-en-Velay is the starting point for the medieval pilgrimage trail to Santiago de Compostela . Its Saint-Michel d’Aiguilhe chapel sits atop a basalt needle, while its other peaks are topped by the cathedral and a Notre Dame de France statue.

Port Rolland cove on Brittany’s Côte de Granit Rose.

It isn’t just the landscapes that vary so much across the country – France’s coast has so many characteristics there is a name for every stretch. On the Côte d’Opale , on the north coast, I’ve sat and admired the belle époque villas; further west, on Brittany’s Côte de Granit Rose , I have swum in coves surrounded by pink-hued boulders carved into extraordinary shapes by wind and sea. In the south-west, I’ve basked in the sunshine and dug my toes into silky blond sand as the Atlantic rolled into shore at Capbreton on the Côte d’Argent; and I’ll never forget an impromptu paddle from a tiny beach hidden between oyster farmers’ huts at L’Herbe on Cap Ferret , on the other side of Arcachon Bay.

The dramatic seascape at Pointe de Pern on Ushant island.

France’s coast is dotted with islands, all with distinct identities. On the Atlantic coast, I fell in love with the Île d’Yeu , which was reminiscent of Greece, with its whitewashed houses and colourful shutters, while the Île de Porquerolles off the Côte d’Azur saw us cycling past pine-fringed beaches and vineyards.

The one that really sticks in the memory, though, is Brittany’s Ushant (Île d’Ouessant in French), in the Iroise Sea off the far west coast. On a warm summer’s day, we cycled over its moorland, past lighthouses and green-shuttered cottages. When we reached the Pointe de Pern, the most westerly point of metropolitan France, I couldn’t believe the roar as the Atlantic waves crashed against the tumble of brown rocks.

A cyclepath on the Île de Ré.

Those in search of natural highs aren’t short of opportunities in L’Hexagone . Now our children are a bit older, paddling on the beach won’t cut it, so we’ve hired sand yachts and darted across the broad beach at Barbâtre on the Île de Noirmoutier off the coast near Nantes. In many forests across France, we’ve swung and climbed through the trees on acc robranche treetop adventures.

Of course, the activity the French excel at is le cyclisme , and the Île de Ré off the west coast was made for it. We’ve pedalled along smooth cycle paths between whitewashed villages adorned with hollyhocks, our legs powered by salted butter caramels.

Washerwomen, by Degas

Paris is always the first stop in France for art lovers, and little can rival the experience of standing eye-to-eye with Van Gogh’s self-portrait at the Musée d’Orsay , reflecting that, as he made those distinct and colourful brush strokes as a penniless artist, he would never know his impact on the art world 135 years later.

Beyond Paris, I’ve loved getting immersed in lesser-known galleries, which also offer moments of wonder. Le Havre’s light-filled Musée d’art moderne André Malraux holds one of France’s largest collections of impressionist art, including works by Renoir, Pissarro, Sisley, Degas and Courbet. It’s a must-visit during this year’s Normandy impressionist festival .

Musée Cinema et Miniature in Lyon.

It never ceases to amaze how the French manage to make museums on such wide-ranging subjects, from the surprisingly fascinating Musée de la Fraise (strawberry) in Plougastel, Brittany to the exquisitely intricate models in the Musée Cinema et Miniature in Lyon. There are big-budget ones, such as the recently revamped Musée National de la Marine in Paris’s Trocadéro, which blends historical model ships and paintings with modern innovations such as a giant CGI wave to bring the history of seafaring alive.

But smaller museums can be as engaging. In a beautiful mansion in the north-eastern walled town of Langres, the House of Enlightenment tells the story of the town’s most famous son, Denis Diderot, the philosopher, art critic and writer who wrote most of the 1751 Encyclopédie .

Architecture

Stained glass in St Joseph’s church in Le Havre.

France’s many chateaux and cathedrals get the most attention, but I’ve been enchanted by more modern architecture, too. On my visit to Le Corbusier’s concrete Saint-Pierre church in Firminy, in the Loire Valley, I caught a group of music students practising four-part harmony in the extraordinary acoustics of the sloped walls, while the sunlight was shining through dozens of tiny windows like a constellation of stars.

In Le Havre, towering above the Lego-like apartment blocks, is the similarly impressive St Joseph’s church . Inside, I sat beneath the kaleidoscopic octagonal tower in reverence as I stared up at its 12,000 panes of coloured glass.

The giant elephant puppet roaming an island in the Loire, in Nantes.

I love Lyon for its gastronomy, Marseille for its myriad quartiers and characters, Bordeaux for its splendour and Nice for its light. But lesser-known cities also hold delights. Nantes is a creative powerhouse with its own magic, encapsulated by the Machines de Nantes , including the giant robotic elephant that roams around an island in the Loire, next to a three-storey Jules-Verne-inspired carousel (their creations can be found in Toulouse and Calais now, too). There are street art installations and, along the river towards Saint-Nazaire, a collection of  kooky art installations .

Getting around

A train crosses a viaduct near Marseille.

There’s a joy to making the journey part of the holiday, especially for those who choose not to have the stress of the airport and want to keep their carbon footprint low. I’ve always loved standing on deck as the ferry comes into Saint Malo : the view of its stately walled town is particularly good from the sea.

Driving in France is a joy (certainly compared with the much busier UK): those empty roads lined with plane trees are justly famous. The A49 from Grenoble is an awesome route as it skirts past the Vercors mountains and walnut groves, while the Millau viaduct on the A75 is always a thrill to cross.

And trains are fast, efficient and comfortable; I love the route along the Côte d’Azur from Marseille to Nice – TGV OuiGo trains depart from Marseille’s Saint-Charles station and arrive in Nice Ville in less than three hours, offering glimpses of the shimmering Mediterranean between the terracotta roofs and cypress pines.

Where to stay

Chouette Cabane, near Laval.

Whatever you have in mind for accommodation, France has it. A bedroom in a castle – Château de Saint Paterne is my favourite. A beautiful gîte – Le Mas and Le Mazet in the Dordogne eclipsed all others. A cute chambres d’hôtes , where the owners treat you like long-lost friends – I’ve never been disappointed by Sawday’s places. And the French are in a class of their own when it comes to more unusual places. There are fabulous tree houses – at La Chouette Cabane in the Mayenne our delicious dinner was winched up to the deck on a pulley and accompanied by a frog chorus as night fell.

In lesser-known Lorraine, the rustic cabin with its own sauna next to the Lake de Pierre-Percée felt wildly remote. And then there was the eco-lodge shaped like a cow: in deepest Burgundy, a region rightly proud of its beef and cheese, the Vache Ecolodge sleeps 12 and is decorated on a bovine theme throughout. Quite mad, but brilliant fun.

Key Points To Remember When Writing An Essay On ‘My Favourite Place’ For Lower Primary Classes

10 lines on ‘my favourite place’ for kids, a paragraph on ‘my favourite place’ for children, essay on ‘my favourite place’ in 200 words for kids, long essay on ‘my favourite place’ for children, what will your child learn from this essay.

A favourite place is something that is so easily relatable, since you know it so well, and have such fond memories in place. This makes it so easy when one has to write on this topic, because there is so much that can be expressed in an essay. It tells us about the place where a child feels secure and happy. An essay on ‘my favourite place’ for classes 1, 2, and 3 is relatively simple and expresses a comfortable place for the children. This place is where the child feels free and not captive. A place where they can be themselves can be anything, a playground, a school, a park, or maybe a sports arena.

Every kid has a place where they feel comfortable and cherished. But when it comes to essay writing on such topics, kids may feel confused. A few points must be considered when writing an essay on my favourite place for lower primary classes:

  • Try and give your essays a catchy and relevant title.
  • Use clear, basic words and simple language.
  • Use proper punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
  • Get the ideas together and plan a rough draft of the essay before the child starts writing.
  • Try and provide examples of all the incident that makes that place a favourite one for the child.

Writing an essay on this topic exhibits a happy place and time for the child. The following few lines on my favourite place give us a fair idea of how to write an essay for classes 1 and 2.

  • My favourite place is the garden I have at home.
  • It is a beautiful and open place for everyone to relax and help release stress.
  • The garden helps us to preserve the environment and nature by planting fruits, flowers, and vegetables.
  • The garden increases one’s love and compassion for nature while nurturing and growing various plants.
  • Gardens are beautiful to look at and beneficial to one’s health.
  • The garden is home to various animals, birds, squirrels, reptiles, and more.
  • We have constructed a tank to collect rainwater in our garden. This water is then utilised for watering the plants, thus saving water and offering re-circulation of rainwater.
  • Our garden also benefits the oxygen circulation in the house.
  • We also have a small pet home for our pet dog in the garden.
  • I help my parents with the regular upkeep of our garden.

The ability of a child to write an essay about their favourite place is a reliable indicator of their level of understanding of their inner self. Here is an essay on my favourite place in 100 words for children:

My favourite place is the beach. At the beach, I feel joyful and have fun at the same time. I can enjoy the water and the sunset and have lots of fun. Mom says the sun’s rays are good for getting vitamin D while we have some fun on the beach. We can enjoy many fun activities on the beach, like playing beach ball or making a sand castle. My father and brother also join me when I go to the beach with my mother. It is fun to have fun with the family at the beach. We make sand castles and collect a lot of sea shells. I wish to have a fishing boat and make a beach house when I grow up.

A short essay for classes 2 and 3 on my favourite place for kids brings out the very aspect of learning and understanding the place where the child feels free and happy:

The park is one of my favourite places, and I enjoy visiting the park with my family frequently. With my brothers and parents, we play a variety of sports. We savour the fresh air and the beautiful landscapes of the park. The aroma of roses in the air is one of my favourites, particularly in the spring. I love to spend time in the park at this time of year. When we go to the park, my brothers and I play soccer. After that, we take a break by sitting down to relax. After playing in the huge green spaces, we feel hungry and enjoy the dishes we bring along from home. Then we play tug-of-war with our parents. We also sit down and play some games like playing cards and board games.

Amazingly, our children can exhibit a liking for a particular place. An essay for class 3 on my favourite place gives us an insight into the comfortable space of our child. The following descriptive essay is an example of essay writing for kids:

A garden is a place in any home that calms people down and adds beauty to the entire place. The garden at our place is not only beautiful to look at, but it also gives us a chance to cultivate healthy fruits and vegetables and beautiful flowers. We have freshly grown fruits and vegetables that are healthy and safe to consume as they don’t contain any pesticides, insecticides, or artificial colours. Our garden also provides a location for outdoor activities. We play many games and sports to foster our competitive drive and aids in our continual physical activity throughout the day. We have a lot of fun in the garden. The garden also offers mental serenity and a getaway from the routine of life. In the garden, my grandfather practises meditation every morning. Our gardener maintains the garden. He keeps pests at bay, regularly trims the grass, and waters the plants. A tranquil setting like a garden can help us to relax our bodies and minds. Working outdoors is enjoyable and can help you feel refreshed and in control. A garden allows us to be close to nature, where we can hear birds singing joyfully and squirrels jumping from one tree to another. We also have a pet dog and are building a pet house in the garden for him. The pets also feel more energetic in the garden. If someone is passionate about collecting a variety of flowers, they should have a lovely garden where they can grow various flowering plants that will enhance the home’s beauty. We should also practise water conservation. We have constructed a tank in our garden to store rainwater so we can practice rainwater harvesting. I love my favourite place, my garden at home.

When writing an essay about their favourite place, kids can learn a lot about themselves. They can learn what makes them happy and how to employ themselves fruitfully in a fun and calm space.

An essay is frequently used in an academic context as a form of examination to ascertain whether a child has mastered their topic and gauge their expertise on a particular subject. Kids share an emotional connection with their favourite place, and essay writing activity on this topic will make them feel closer to that place.

My Favorite Place to Go

Student model print.

This model is based on an essay submitted by fourth-grader Mia. She uses some vivid verbs and sensory details—“devour juicy caramel-covered apples,” “crisp fall breeze,” “soft spring trickles of rain splashing the sidewalks,” “warm summer sun”—to help the reader experience her favorite place.

Do you have a favorite place to go—a place with family, good weather, and fun things to do like crabbing? I’m glad I do. New Jersey is my favorite place for many reasons.

The first reason is my family. Over half of my family lives in New Jersey. When I visit, my cousins and I laugh and play all day and night. My uncles and aunts take me to the boardwalk where we ride roller coasters. We devour juicy caramel-covered apples and foot-long hot dogs. My family is fun to be with.

The second reason for New Jersey being my favorite place is the weather. Instead of being hot and sweaty, it’s always cool and moist. When I think about my visits, I can just feel the crisp fall breeze in my hair. I can just see the white, fluffy winter snow. I can just hear the soft spring trickles of rain splashing on the sidewalks. I can just feel the warm summer sun on my face. The weather is great!

The third reason for New Jersey being my favorite place is crabbing. If it’s crab season, we crab. We keep the blue crabs and the snow crabs, and we let the others go. Sometimes we catch crabs on hooks, and sometimes we lower crab cages into the bay. Then we pull them out later. One time my brother caught a crab so big that it got stuck in the crab cage! The crab finally got out, but it hurt one of its legs and broke the cage trying. Poor crab!

For all these reasons, New Jersey is my favorite place to go. If you don’t have a favorite place, I think you should search for one. It’s good to visit a favorite place—a place where you can make special memories. By the way, if you crab at your special place, be sure to get a big crab cage.

Three Places I Would Like To Visit Essay Example

What if I asked you to name 3 places you would like to visit? Hello, I am Rayyan and these are 3 places I would like to visit. In these couple paragraphs, I will talk about why I desire to go to these places, the tourist attractions, and much more. Beginning with London, we will then transition to Iceland and New York. I hope you take pleasure in reading!

We all agree that London is a beautiful place, but every person's reason to visit would be very different. Personally, I’d love to visit London because some of my favourite content creators live there. I would actually like to live there when I’m older. Some places I would like to explore in London are the Big Ben, the Shard, and Buckingham palace in person. I know for sure that I would definitely take a trip to the top of the Shard, I love heights!

Did you know Iceland is the safest country in the entire world, it is extremely beautiful! The views are absolutely breathtaking- It is as if you took something straight from a painting. Iceland has some of the most gorgeous places you've ever seen. Including the Blue Lagoon, Northern Lights, Skaftafell Ice Cave, and much more. If I ever went, I would definitely try horseback riding. I’d also love to do some whale watching; I've heard that it is an absolutely amazing sight!

Lastly, the definitely not infamous… New York!! New York is practically the opposite of Iceland, and the reason I desire going is also contradicting my reasons to go to Iceland. I would like to visit the city and go to see all the tourist attractions. Some of them include Times Square, Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, and Central Park.

In closing, out of thousands of cities, 195 countries, and 7 continents, these are the 3 places I would like to visit. I hope you enjoyed.

A Visit to a Historical Place Essay: 100 Words

Recently our school organized an educational trip to the Taj Mahal, Agra. The Taj Mahal is the most beautiful monument built in the Mughal period. It is one of the wonders of the world. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

This gateway of Taj Mahal is built with the use of Red Sandstone. There is a beautiful garden that begins at the main gateway and ends at the base of the monument. The building is made of pure white marble. It took twenty thousand workmen and twenty years to build. The monument is built on the bank of the river Yamuna.  It was the most beautiful building I had ever seen.

Last Sunday, we went to the Red Fort by a specially hired bus. Along the entrance two rows of shops selling various objects of art besides selling handicrafts. During the Mughal times, this was known as Meena Bazaar. After crossing the lawn, we reached the historic building known as ‘Naubat Khana’. Then we saw ‘Diwan-e-Aam’ or the Hall of Public Audience.

Then we went to the ’Rang Mahal’ which was a place of pleasures and richly inlaid with precious stones in the Mughal period. There is a ‘Khas Mahal’ beside the Rang Mahal. It has a beautiful marble screen. The Red Fort also has the War Memorial Museum where weapons used in the First World War are exhibited. We got to see many historical things that we read in our books. We enjoyed the trip very much.

Essay on a Visit to a Historical Place: 150 Words

My dream came true when last month our history teacher arranged a trip to Agra for us. It was 24 October when we reached there. That very afternoon we went to see the famous Taj Mahal. It is a masterpiece of architecture-all in marble. We admired the four more mosques with tall slender minarets and the huge central dome. The surroundings lend beauty to it. The mausoleum stands in the center of a big garden with marble water channels, rows of fountains, and stately cypress trees.

The tombs of Shah Jahan and his wife lie beneath the dome. We went to see the Agra Fort too. When Shah Jahan was confined there, he spent his time gazing at the mausoleum of his creation from his prison window. We saw things that we had read about in our books-the Dewan-i-Am, the Diwan-i-Khas, the Pearl Mosque, and the Shish Mahal. A visit to a place of historical importance does make history real and interesting. It was a wonderful trip.

A Visit to a Historical Place

A Visit to a Historical Place Essay: 200-250 Words

A visit to a historical place is very educative. It instructs as well as entertains us. I am fond of visiting historical buildings. Last year, I went to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. In the evening, we went to see the Taj Mahal. I had heard a lot about the beauty of the Taj Mahal. But reality surpassed the descriptions that had been given to me.

It is a wonder in marble, a specimen of Mughal art. Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan in the sweet memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It was built about three hundred and fifty years ago.  It stands on the right bank of the river Yamuna. The gateway which is made of red stone is very beautiful. The garden is very lovely. The tall dark cypress trees, smooth green lawns, and the beds of flowers are pleasing to the eyes. The fountains flow here and there.

The main building is made of white marble. It stands on a raised platform. At its four corners, there are four stately towers. Inside the tomb, Emperor Shah Jahan and his beloved Mumtaz Mahal lie buried side by side. This monument tells us about the expertise of the artists and craftsmen of that era. The visit to the Taj Mahal was a wonderful experience for us. It was both enjoyable and educational.

Visiting an eclipse city? Here’s what to do after the sun reemerges.

Locals share their favorite places to eat and explore in these cities of totality.

A brief blanket of darkness will cover the skies and street lamps will burn midday, as a total solar eclipse stretches across North America on April 8. The phenomenon occurs when the moon moves between the sun and the Earth, causing, for a matter of minutes, a full block of the sun.

Since the next full solar eclipse isn’t predicted to be visible from the contiguous United States again for 20 years, this year’s experience tops many travelers’ list. In fact, up to 3.7 million people are predicted to travel from outside to inside the path of totality come April. Some were booking more than a year in advance .

NASA has outlined 13 cities that fall within the path of totality and make for some of the event’s best vantage points, including Dallas, Little Rock, Buffalo, and Burlington, Vt. We tapped locals in some of these cities for some of their best recommendations on what to eat, see and do in their hometowns once the sun reemerges.

Totality: 1:40 to 1:44 p.m. Central time

With one of the longest durations along the path of totality in the United States, Dallas will be packed with visitors. Organizations throughout the city will host viewing parties and events, including the Perot Museum of Nature and Science , which has invited over 20 astronomers for an event full of science activities, food and music, plus chances to explore the museum’s interactive stargazing experiences.

The Dallas Arboretum has partnered with retired NASA astronaut Alvin Drew for its party, and the Frontiers of Flight Museum , with an unobstructed location near Love Field, is hosting a family-friendly viewing event. Totality Dallas is a three-day festival hosted at Samuell Farm in Mesquite, Tex., just east of Dallas.

Tanner Agar , owner of Rye and Apothecary restaurants, moved to Dallas in 2011 to attend Texas Christian University and after spending time abroad, he returned to the city to get into the restaurant business. “I thought it was a great place to make a name for myself as a chef and restaurateur,” he said in an email. Just before the eclipse, Agar plans to launch an Alice in Wonderland menu at Apothecary, a cocktail bar known for its creative concoctions. “If you’ve traveled to see the eclipse, you’re clearly looking to be surprised and delighted,” he said.

essay on favourite place to visit

Agar recommends visiting the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, which is marking 60 years since the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. For a taste of classic Texas, he recommends swinging by The Stockyards in Fort Worth, a historic area that has shopping, dining and still hosts cattle drives. “You can get custom-made boots and go two-stepping at the largest honkey tonk in the world,” he said, “after you attend the rodeo, of course.”

Little Rock

Totality: 1:51 to 1:54 p.m. Central time

With its dark skies and top-notch state parks, Arkansas is a major draw for the eclipse crowd. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will host a special event with food trucks, access to telescopes and activities for kids, like creating pinhole viewing boxes. Snap a photo of the eclipse with a free phone adapter. For hiking trails and high-altitude vantage points, Pinnacle Mountain State Park , just outside of the city limits, will be a popular draw.

While in Little Rock, visit the trendy South on Main (SoMa) District and stop by the Esse Purse Museum , a special collection that examines the role of a woman’s purse as more than an accessory. Grab a cone of “Arkansas Mud” at Loblolly Creamery , and sample baleadas and other Honduran and Latin American street food at El Sur . SoMa in the Dark is a multiday eclipse event featuring pop-ups, markets, a nighttime parade and an evening glow run.

Evansville, Ind.

Totality: 2:02 to 2:05 p.m. Central time

Evansville, Ind., is positioned on a bend of the Ohio River, just north of the Kentucky line. Given its riverfront location and full-dome planetarium show, the Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science will be a popular eclipse-viewing vantage point. Learn about the sun, moon and stars at the immersive eclipse 2024 show.

Continue your connection with nature at Wesselman Woods , the largest tract of urban old-growth forest in the country. Wesselman will host a free multicultural festival on April 8, with food trucks and live music. Wesselman Woods Marketing Director Kristina Arwood is a native Evansvillian and recommends stopping for a slice of coconut cream pie at Pie Pan , an all-day breakfast diner and bakery.

For a slice of history, head north of town to The Log Inn , a historic stagecoach stop built in 1825, and the oldest restaurant in Indiana. It’s said that Abraham Lincoln stopped here in 1844 while campaigning for Henry Clay. Order family style and get a sampling of ham, fried chicken or roast beef. Sides, such as German potato salad and fried potatoes, point to the region’s rich German heritage. For another dose of history, visit Angel Mounds , a state historic site honoring the Mississippians who inhabited the area hundreds of years ago.

Totality: 3:13 to 3:17 p.m. Eastern time

Destiny Thomas is a Cleveland native and astronomer at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History , where they recently premiered a planetarium show, Meeting Totality. The museum will also host a watch party on April 8. For another prime viewing spot, Thomas recommends Observatory Park, just under an hour’s drive east of the city. “The area is free of light pollution, providing incredible and breathtaking views of the cosmos, and it’s within the path of totality,” she said in an email.

Before or after the big event, Thomas says not to miss the city’s most famous attraction, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . Lisa Vinciquerra, director of production and live events at the hall, has lived in Cleveland for 30 years and recommends the Cleveland Museum of Art . For great cocktails and healthy Latin fare, she likes downtown’s LULO Kitchen .

Thomas also recommends the Cleveland Botanical Garden. “I find it incredibly relaxing and serene,” she said. The Madagascar Glasshouse , home to the largest collection of baobab trees in the United States, is there.

Douglas Katz, chef at Amba in Ohio City and Zhug in Cleveland Heights, recommends the city’s many parks, which will host an eclipse-related speaker series , workshops and viewing parties. His favorite is Edgewater on the lakefront.

He also recommends stopping by the University Circle area: “It is filled with cultural institutions, plus world-class art, architecture and food, and it’s home to Severance Music Center, home of the renowned Cleveland Orchestra,” he said in an email. The orchestra will partner with the Great Lakes Science Center and NASA’s Glenn Research Center for Total Eclipse Fest , with a free concert on April 7.

If time allows, Katz also suggests stopping by the Cleveland Cultural Gardens , tucked inside the 254-acre Rockefeller Park. “They represent many of the immigrants and settlers throughout Cleveland’s history,” he said. Of interest to eclipse-seekers, the Polish Garden features astronomer Nicholaus Copernicus.

Totality: 3:18 to 3:22 p.m. Eastern time

Buffalo is toward the end of the eclipse arc in the United States. Marc Moscato, owner of Buffalo Bike Tours, offers a chicken wing tour , where you can meet John Young’s daughter — Lina Brown Young — and purchase specialty “mumbo sauce.” If weather permits, head over to Tifft Nature Preserve , a 264-acre park with five miles of trails and boardwalks, just five minutes from downtown.

Buffalo native Michelle Kearns, a former reporter who now works for the visitor’s bureau, recommends a visit to the emerging museum district, which includes the Buffalo AKG Art Museum , one of the oldest museums in the country. Its art collection ranges from works by Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Jackson Pollack and Andy Warhol.

Grab a quick bite at Cornelia inside the museum (Kearns recommends a breakfast sandwich), or sit at the Sculpture Bar and sip a glass of wine or cocktail while viewing the sculpture garden. The Burchfield Penney Art Center is another draw with immersive art installations and glass.

And since “Where can I find the wings?” is a question almost every local gets, Kearns recommends Gabriel’s Gate , “a beloved stop” in the center of the city’s Allentown District. She also recommends Cole’s restaurant , within walking distance of the art museums. Stop by for a burger or signature wings. During brunch, order a Buffalo Bloody, made with Frank’s RedHot sauce and blue cheese.

Burlington, Vt.

Totality timeline: 3:26 to 3:29 p.m. Eastern time

Burlington will play host to dozens of eclipse events . Longtime Vermont resident Sas Stewart is the founder of Adventure Dinner, a company that curates and hosts unique food and drink experiences across the state. “I like to call them secret dinners in unexpected places,” she said. For the eclipse, she plans to host pop-up experiences after hours at one of Burlington’s most popular restaurants, The Grey Jay, run by chef Cara Chigazola Tobin . “It will be four courses inspired by our neighbors to the north, on the heels of the sugaring season in Vermont and Quebec,” Stewart said.

While in town, Stewart recommends Tobin’s Honey Road , which features eastern Mediterranean cuisine. “They have sticky wings that are stupid good,” Stewart said. “And the kale salad is amazing.” For a quick and cozy stop, she recommends Manhattan Pizza & Pub. She also describes having recently had a “perfect Sunday afternoon” at Onion City Chicken and Oyster, where she enjoyed oysters, hot crab dip and a martini.

For an artistic experience, Stewart suggests visiting AO Glass to take a glass-blowing class or watch the intricate process during open studio hours. She also recommends the Burlington waterfront. “Part of what makes it really cool is that it’s contiguous,” she said. “Nothing can be built there, so the best views are at public parks.”

Luis Calderin, 49, is originally from Miami, but now calls Burlington home. With chef Oscar Arencibia, he opened Santiago’s Cuban Cuisine , inspired by South Beach and 1950s Havana. “I’d say we have one of the best Cuban sandwiches, Cubanos, north of Miami,” he said. “It’s one of our signature offerings, and our mojito menu is a pillar of the business.”

Calderin describes it as a “tropical-chic atmosphere.” “It sits on the lake, overlooking the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York, so it’s super picturesque,” he said.

Calderin is also a DJ and recommends Pure Pop Records for music lovers. “It’s the hub of the music scene here, just a classic record store,” he said. “It’s laid back, and the people who work there are super knowledgeable on all types of music, from international to our local bands.” Phish was founded in Burlington.

He also recommends a factory tour of Burton Snowboards , which was founded in Vermont in 1977. For a quality cup of joe, Calderin heads to Muddy Waters Cafe . “I get a double espresso with any of their blends, and they have my favorite coconut macaroons,” he said.

For a lunch place that’s “quintessentially Burlington,” he wouldn’t miss Zabby & Elf’s Stone Soup . “Burlington is a mix of college students, young families, professionals, but it’s also a bit of hippie, progressive politics, and it’s becoming more global, so it’s changing quite a bit” he said. “Burlington is a small, progressive little city.”

‘If You See a Fox and I’ve Died, It Will Be Me’

An illustration shows a woman with dark hair and in a blue coat looking between two trees at a fox.

By Sarah Wildman

Ms. Wildman is a staff writer and editor in Opinion.

A block from my house at the edge of Washington, there is a winding park with a road running through it. One Sunday recently, walking my regular loop along the trail, I heard leaves rustling on the wooded hill above me. I often see deer here; this time it was a bright young fox.

She paused. We stood there for a moment, she and I, aware. I wanted desperately for her to come closer, to stay in her orbit a moment longer. I lingered long after she left.

Sometime in my daughter Orli’s last months of life, she told me, lightly, “If you see a fox and I’ve died, it will be me.” I had never seen a fox in my neighborhood. Over the past several months, I have seen maybe a half dozen, here and elsewhere. Each time, I try to quell my desire to shout out, to ask the animal to stay, to call it by her name. It feels crazy; it feels sane.

I had never believed in signs. Now I notice when an interview runs exactly 1 hour and 13 minutes or when the hour is exactly 1:13. Orli was born on Jan. 13. It means nothing; it means something. A double rainbow stretched over a farm in Maine represents more than beauty.

March 17 will be one year since Orli died in our house, in her room, in my arms; March 20 a year since her burial. (In a quirk of this year’s Jewish calendar, the date of her yahrzeit, or memorial date, is some weeks farther on.)

A year is a strange and terrible marker of time, simultaneously endless and instant. A year of loss is a new form of permanence: This is the life we lead. It will not change. A year furthers us on the long march toward our altered future. In the life of a child, a year is transformative. Her peers have molted in the year from 14 to 15. They no longer attend the same school; they have begun new sports, met new friends, moved forward, moved on.

There is an immutability to a year of grief, a sense of solidity to the loss, a movement from the surreality of her absence into a hardened space. It’s not as though I believe she might return, but in the year between her death and now, I remain connected to her presence. My partner, Ian, has spent part of this year adding tattoos to his arms, each an ode to Orli, permanent signifiers of permanent loss. My younger daughter, Hana, has written through her grief; she notes, often, the lack of insight her peers have into the depth of losing a sister. Meanwhile, I wonder if I should keep every item of clothing I can picture Orli in, I wonder what she would say about each movie I see, each book I read. I yearn for her commentary.

On Orli’s birthday, one of her long-distance friends wrote to me, “Whether you consent or not, I bring Orli along in every escapade,” in good decisions, in hidden poor ones. She understood the essence of being human is to be mischievous, of both choosing well and of making bad decisions. I never craved a perfect child, just a living one.

The day before our first birthday without Orli, Hana, Ian and I — walking from separate directions — came upon a fox idling on a street corner, as though waiting for us.

Most of this year I have worked to center memories of Orli’s better moments, the joy she infused in each minute she got to live. One month after her first brain tumor surgery, when she’d rebounded better than any of us could have hoped, we met old friends from Spain for dinner. As we ate, a sudden, drenching storm came up. Orli got up and ran into the warm rain with our friends’ children, dancing, thrilled. It was, she told me, a “bucket list moment.”

She seemed to realize, far earlier than I, she had to lean into each experience, to expand it, to let it fuel her for whatever came next. In her journal she worried she might not see ninth grade. She did not share that with her friends.

Each of us in our rump family has felt an almost visceral physicality of these past few weeks — the slide from her birthday toward this anniversary, the terrible knowledge that we each hold of the last moments of her life, the good minutes we had, the harder hours, the terror of those final days.

In her last week, one doctor cornered me at the hospital to tell me Orli shouldn’t be here anymore. It was not clear if he meant “here, still receiving palliative treatment,” or “here, on earth.” She was fading, I knew. But it felt an awful thing to say — unforgivable, really. I thought of Abraham arguing with God to save the wicked towns . I wanted to ask: But what if I get 15 good minutes with her each hour? Or five? Orli was adamant she did not want to die.

In Judaism a child who is an avel, or mourner, is to stop saying Mourner’s Kaddish for her parent at 11 months as she re-emerges into the community. But because parents who have lost a child have no obligation beyond the first 30 days, this marker holds no meaning. And because those who have lost children are, in many ways, forever seen as mourners, forever noted for their loss, we remain on the margin — in the community but not entirely of it. Once, early in Orli’s illness, on the same path where I saw the fox, I overheard a woman, just slightly still within my earshot, who passed me. “That’s Sarah Wildman, the woman whose daughter …”

I tend to walk alone on this path. Grief of this kind is simultaneously universal and unshareable; loneliness is its inherent point of reference. I cannot conceive that March 18 will be drastically different from March 17.

When 2023 turned to 2024, I thought: It is a terrible thing to buy a calendar for a year Orli will not see. Still, I put up a calendar in her old room, the same feminist calendar she chose each year. As February turned to March, I found the page hard to flip over. Until this point, I have been able to look at the photos in my phone and say: This time last year, we were at this concert, we were at this movie, we had this meal. Now those memories slide farther back. These days Ian often sits in her room, working. He likes to be near her, and so, most nights, in homage to her, I straighten up after him — he is a mess, she craved order. I do it for her, I do it for me.

In early September, not quite six months after Orli died, I interviewed the actor Rob Delaney, who wrote a bracing, visceral book about his young son Henry’s life and death from brain cancer. “You probably at this point regularly — what, every day? — are shocked by the fact that she’s gone. Right?” Mr. Delaney asked me halfway through our call. “For better or for worse — I guess for the survival of the species, it’s for the better — but the acute physical pain will not go away. But it’ll weave itself into your life in a way where threads of Orli will be in the tapestry of your life forever,” he said.

“And in a few years, you’re going to wrap yourself in the tapestry of your life and marvel at the beauty of the threads of Hana and Orli and Ian, and it’ll all be — you will metabolize her life and her death, in a way where you feel a thousand things.” One of those things will always be “disbelief and pain,” he said. “That won’t go away.”

In the first days of March, Hana and I went to speak at Orli’s old school at a Women’s History Month assembly held in her honor. Orli had an “intuitive sense of justice, about doing what’s right in the world, about showing up for her friends and herself,” I told sixth, seventh and eighth graders, aware some of them would have known Orli only as that girl who died.

It was Hana who spoke best. “Orli was like an emotion,” she told the assembled children, all older than she. “I think I will never get over her. It might get less hard, but I will never not be sad.”

It wasn’t until that night, in bed, that I wept. The teachers still knew her as she was, I realized. I craved their memories.

“How are you?” each of them asked, as people often do. “Aquí estoy,” I said, as I have come to say. I’m here.
