Home » Monster Hunter World » Monster Hunter World Platinumfish Location – How to catch Platinum Fish
Platinumfish is one of the rarest types of aquatic animal in Monster Hunter World. It’s quite possible that your first encounter with the species will take place when the grizzled fisherman pulls you to the side and asks you to catch one. Without telling you where to find it. It can be a pretty frustrating affair, and we hope we can help you catch a platinum fish with out Monster Hunter World platinumfish location guide.
After you meet with the Piscine Researcher at Elder’s Recess, travel to sector 8 of the area. The platinumfish can be caught in the crystal-enaces pond next to the camp there, in the eastern part of the sector. If you use Fake Fodder, you’ll notice one fish is always running away from you, instead of heading towards the hook/sinker. That’s the platinum fish. In order to catch it, you’ll need to use proper bait instead of Fake Fodder – we used a Bait Bug.
We suggest you clear out the less important kinds with Fake Fodder – the Goldenfish , Gunpowderfish , Pink Parexuses and such. Once you’re left with only the stubborn one, switch to the more expensive kind of bait and catch it.

Lol I catches this using the net staying behind the tent in section 8
Area 7 with Fake Fodder. For the life of me could not find any sort of fishing spot in Area 8.
The fishing spot in 8 is in the camp.
Yeah, I thought the fishing spot was somewhere in 8, outside of the camp. But it is literally in 8’s campsite. There’s three little ponds right there. I found the platinum-fish on the one all the way to the left.
Thanks for the help
I have determined the platinum fish will come with any bait if you don’t move or shake the bait after casting, but its still helps to clear out the other fish.
This information is inaccurate. I just caught a platinum fish with the fake fodder.

Platinumfish are a type of Endemic Life in Monster Hunter World that players will need to capture for certain bounties given by NPCs. These fish are fairly rare, and you'll need to visit very specific fishing spots in the New World for a shot at finding one.
The Sword and Shield is a great weapon type that becomes even better with the right skills. Here's an endgame build for it in Monster Hunter World.
Catching a Platinumfish isn't that hard, but finding them can be quite a problem given the sheer number of fishing holes in Monster Hunter World . This guide shows exactly where you can find at least one guaranteed Platinumfish spawn.
There are three regions where you can find Platinumfish:
You'll know that a body of water has fish in it by looking at it. There will be a number of fish swimming around the water of a viable pool. If you're ever confused as to where these pools and ponds might be, check the world map and look for the rippling water indicators.
The kind of fish you get will be semi-random. You can see what fish bites your line, but you won't be able to lure Platinumfish specifically . Keep reeling in your catches, and you'll get one eventually. Also, be very careful not to pull your fishing line too early; otherwise, you'll risk scaring the fish away.
The Elder's Recess Eastern Campsite always has a Platinumfish on the left side of the water pool if you go to the High Rank version of the region. If you get to Master Rank, then you'll get a Great Platinumfish instead. The larger fish is naturally worth more RP, but it won't count towards any fishing bounties that specifically ask for normal Platinumfish.
Fishing in Monster Hunter World is as simple as getting the timing right when the fish bites your line. However, you'll sometimes have to finish a Quick Time Event (QTE) when you end up getting a large fish. When this happens, simply mash the button that appears on-screen until the fish gets reeled in.
Platinumfish yield Platinum Scales, which are worth 60RP and 2000z a piece, making them a great side source of income . Meanwhile, a single Platinum Scale+ dropped by Great Platinumfish goes for 300RP and a whopping 20000z. Consider going fishing if you ever find yourself needing money.
In Monster Hunter World , some commissions may require you to capture a Platinumfish to complete them. Finding this elusive fish can be annoying if you don't know where to look, but thankfully I have just the place where you can always find one.
Platinumfish can be found throughout a few different areas, but by far the easiest place to both find and farm them is within the Eastern Camp, Zone 8 of the Elder Recess .
Eastern Camp is one of your main camps located in the Elder Recess, meaning it is very easy to gain access to the Platinumfish's location at all times, and without additional travel hassle. As soon as you spawn, look to the crystalline pool of water directly to your left . There you'll find a dozen fish swimming around inside, with a surefire Platinumfish somewhere within.

I recommend fishing up all the fish in this pool of water until you find it. As implied, you'll need to make use of your Fishing Rod to do so. Don't worry; all Hunters are given a Fishing Rod, so just scroll to it in your inventory and equip it. Once equipped, cast your rod and wait for a bite. This pool also may contain a Great Platinumfish , which will require you to play a QTE (Quick Time Event) mini-game before you can capture it. Note that if your commission requires you to capture a normal Platinumfish, a Great Platinumfish does not count .

In a game with exciting creatures and numerous quests to complete, the Monster Hunter World Platinum Fish is but one of many different monsters for you to hunt down. Unlike the other beasts that you slay or capture, the Platinum Fish is one that must be carefully caught using your fishing pole.
Unfortunately, the Monster Hunter World Platinumfish can be one of the hardest fish to find in the game. This is made worse by the fact that there is a quest that requires you to catch one. Thankfully, we’ve scoured the game’s gigantic open world areas and have discovered the best place to find the Platinumfish.
To find the Monster Hunter World Platinumfish, you must first be in the Elder’s Recess area of the game; the same area where you meet with the Piscine Researcher. After you’ve met with the researcher, work your way to the eighth area of the Elder’s Recess. It is here that the best spot for finding the Platinumfish is located.
In area eight of the Elder’s Recess, there is a camp. Make your way to that camp and you will see a small body of water near it. That is the best location to find the Monster Hunter World Platinum Fish. Finding the Platinum Fish is easy enough, but catching it is a whole other ball game. Let’s get started.
In order to catch the Monster Hunter World Platinumfish, you must complete a few steps first. In this small pond of water on the eastern side of area eight, you will see several fish swimming around there. For the best chance of getting the Platinumfish, we recommend first clearing out the pond of the other fish around by catching them with Fake Fodder.
Once you’ve cleared out most of the fish that you aren’t looking for, then you should switch to a better bait like the Goldenfish Bait or a Bait Bug. You can also catch a Platinumfish by using your Capture Net, but this requires perfect aiming and timing.
The annoying Monster Hunter World Platinum Fish is elusive and will attempt to escape, so be prepared. Good luck!

The easiest 2,000 gold you'll ever make
Catch it for the research points or for the pretty chunk of gold, its scales will make you. Here’s how to find and capture Platinumfish in Monster Hunter World (MHW).
If you’re tackling the Research Help: Platinumfish Capture critical bounty, you’ll find yourself in dire need of one of those elusive silver Platinumfish. Fortunately, the Platinumfish can be found in quite a few places.
Here are all the places you can find the Platinumfish in Monster Hunter World:
If you’re looking for a guaranteed spawn, Elder’s Recess Sector 8 is your best bet. Here, a Platinumfish is guaranteed to spawn in the leftmost part of the fishing area in Eastern Camp. It’s also the easiest one to farm. Just spawn in, approach the pool of water near the tent surrounded by crystals, and throw in your line.
Once you’ve made your way to Elder’s Recess, Hoarfrost Reach, or The Guiding Lands, you’ll actually need to catch the Platinumfish.
Platinumfish can be captured primarily with fishing rods. Just approach the lake and press the button associated with the fishing rod in your item bar, in the bottom right of your screen. This will equip the fishing rod.
You can generally see the fish in the water before you cast your line, but this isn’t always the case. Throw your line so that it lands in front of the fish.
You can also use the net. However, nets have to be very close to the fish’s position and there’s a chance that it will scare the fish away if you miss. You can only catch Platinumfish with the Capture Net in the Eastern Camp fishing spot in Elder’s Reach, Sector 8.
Platinumfish are one of the most valuable fishes in the game for one reason. Their scales can be sold for 2,000 Gold . Each time you capture a Platinumfish, you immediately get a scale.
But capturing a Platinumfish will also give you 60 RP.

Complete all critical bounties from the Piscine Researcher in Monster Hunter World.
There are a lot of quests to complete in Monster Hunter World. Some of these will stay on your HUD indefinitely, even if you’d rather worry about other things. Some you’ll get while out on an expedition and struggle to keep track of going forward. The latter group of quests are often Critical Bounties, and usually given to you from the Piscine Researcher or Endemic Life Researcher. Today we’ll be focusing on the former.
Last updated on March 6, 2020 at 4:31 p.m. EST.
There are six Critical Bounties that are given to players from the Piscine Researcher. Most will give you a small reward, but the final quest will give you a Gold Wyverian Print that you can redeem at the Elder Melder . That, my friends, is reason enough alone to grind through this list of tasks, as the Gold Wyverian Print can be redeemed for gems, extremely rare crafting materials. It should be noted, though, that as of the Iceborne DLC, hunters can receive Gold Wyverian Prints for helping lower-ranked hunters with quests. For example, if you are Master Rank and help someone defeat Nergigante on High Rank, you might score a Gold Wyverian Print for your trouble.
Below is a list of Piscine Researcher tasks to complete:
When you are about to head out on an expedition, look at the world map. As you hover over a location, you’ll get a key on the right side that gives you some important details. One of these will be at the bottom under the Field Researcher section. If you see the Piscine Researcher listed there, you’ll be able to find them at that location and get their quests, assuming you don’t already have it.
If you’d like to see which critical bounties you already have active, which ones are done, and which ones you’ve yet to pick up, visit the Resource Center in Astera or Seliana. Active Critical Bounties will be in the list and the text around them will be lit up. Completed Critical Bounties will be in the list by greyed out, and if you have yet to obtain the critical bounty from the Piscine Researcher, it will be absent from the list entirely. Use that information to see what critical bounties you need to finish by cross referencing it with my list.
It should also be noted that once you finish the first five critical bounties on the list, the sixth will be given in a random location it seems. No fear, just bring up the World Map and you can scan each location for the Piscine Researcher. Locate and pay them a visit in order to get the final critical bounty to complete the set.
Now that you are aware of all critical bounties from the Piscine Researcher in Monster Hunter: World, visit our Monster Hunter: World hub to check in on what else you’ve been missing thus far in your journey.

In order to unlock this achievement, you are required to catch a fish known as the Petricanths , which is very rare; and spawns in very few locations as far as I know. But I found one spawned in a very convenient location. Here is a picture of what the petricanths looks like .
Once you unlock the eastern camp in Elders Recess, there is a pond immediately to the right of the tent. I was testing out this pond to see how fast I could get research points because there's a guaranteed spawn of a giant tuna which gets you 150 points, on top of every other fish needed for Piscine researcher quests that drop valuable scales like the goldenfish. On one of these trips a petricanths spawned on the left side of the pool.
So the idea would be to:
Fast travel to the eastern camp in elders recess
Check if a petricanths has spawned
If it did, catch it
If it didn't catch the tuna on the far right side in the back for free points
Fast travel to Astera, than fast travel back to the camp and repeat the steps
Another revised method of this would be to:
Fast travel to the central camp in the rotten vale, and head to area 15 where the golden fish spawns, this is also another petricanth spawn!
if it's there, catch it, if not; repeat the above steps
Eventually through enough trial and error, the petricanths and a fair amount of research points will be yours! And for anyone wondering, they are a real fish species. Except the ones we have in our own world are called coelocanths !
I hope this was able to help some people, it took me an hour farming it a different way. So the immediate access to its spawn from the quick travel is bound to shave off some time on the grind.

Oh, and just an FYI, the Ancient Fish can also be found in the Elder's Recess right next to the Eastern Camp. I got it on the first expedition compared to 6 expeditions in the Rotten Vale. I may have been lucky, but I daresay chances are better at the Elder's Recess due to the higher quantity of fish.
