Sachin Tendulkar’s Early Life and Career:

Sachin Tendulkar was born in a middle-class family and he was very interested in cricket. Sachin took up cricket at the age of eleven and was very popular due to the school tournaments. He came into the limelight with a performance at his school tournament where he played an innings which is considered to change his life. He held a record partnership of 664 runs with Vinod Kambli playing in a school tournament. That inning allowed the selectors to see the talent and it is considered to be the inning that changed Sachin’s life as he became famous in a fortnight. Because of that inning, people all around the country got to know about a 16 years old kid that bats till the bowlers collapse. The Indian cricket team selectors did not waste time in selecting him and before anyone could have imagined Sachin Tendulkar was selected for the series against Pakistan only at the age of 16.

On 15 November 1989, Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut against Pakistan in Karachi. Pakistan’s cricket team was known for its bowling during those days where the combo of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were considered to be the most dangerous bowling duo. But Sachin faced them gracefully and even made a few runs. A 16 years old boy was able to face the most feared bowlers of that time which opened the doors for him to be selected for future cricket matches and a chance to represent the Indian National team. Sachin Tendulkar in his autobiography has mentioned that the series against Pakistan was memorable to him as he got a chance to meet and learn to form his idols such as Kapil dev and Sunil Gavaskar.

The Rise of Sachin Tendulkar

During the years 1994-1999, Sachin Tendulkar was in his twenties and his performance was at its peak. He opened the batting against New Zealand in 1994 and made 84 runs from just 49 balls, He then went on and scored his first ODI century against Australia. It took him around 78 ODI’s to score his first century but it was worth the wait. During the1996 World Cup, Sachin went on and became the leading run-scorer in the tournament and he also scored two centuries during that tournament.

After the World cup tournament, Sachin played a great innings against Pakistan at Sharjah. Tendulkar made another century and also had the highest second-wicket partnership with Navjot Singh Sidhu. India then went on to win that match against Pakistan.

Sachin Tendulkar was again tested when India toured Australia in the year 1998. Tendulkar had scored three consecutive centuries before the Australian tournament; Shane Warne, the leg spinner had dismantled top-class batsmen before the tournament. All eyes were on the clash between Sachin Tendulkar, the Indians best batsman, and Shane Warne, Australia’s most feared spinner.

Tendulkar went on and scored an unbeaten 204 runs in the first test and also dismantled the bowling of Shane Warne where he conceded 111 runs to Tendulkar. Australia lost the match to India within three days and it was all because of the exceptional batting that a twenty years old had shown. The bad luck for Australia continued as Tendulkar went on and scored two consecutive centuries. The twin knocks by Sachin Tendulkar are known as the ‘Desert Storm’ as they allowed Tendulkar to show his supremacy to the world.

Sachin Tendulkar’s performance in the ICC 1998 quarterfinal at Dhaka paved the way for India’s entry into the semifinals in which he scored 141 runs and also took four Australian wickets. In March 1999, the inaugural Asian test championship was held between India, Pakistan, and Srilanka in which during the second test Tendulkar went on and scored his 19th international test century.

Sachin again showed his class in a Test against Pakistan at Chepauk in 1999, where he scored 136 in the fourth innings and made sure that India had a good start. Despite all his effort, India lost the match to Pakistan by 12 runs. During the 1999 Cricket World cup, Sachin faced a tragic loss as his father, Professor Ramesh Tendulkar passed away. Sachin flew back to India to attend the final rituals of his father which led him to miss the match against Zimbabwe. However, Sachin returned to the world cup and scored another century against Kenya. India went on and won the match. This shows the character that Sachin has for the country. Despite his father’s death, he was determined to make India win the match and progress further in the tournament.

During the 2003 Cricket World cup tournament, Sachin was the highest run-scorer where he scored 673 runs in 11 matches and helped India reach the final. In the final match, India lost the world cup to Australia but Sachin Tendulkar was given the man of the tournament award.

Sachin Tendulkar - The Opener

The main contribution of Sachin Tendulkar was the way he changed the opening of cricket. The Indian team was struggling with opening batsmen as many of them were unable to give India a good start against any teams. The whole scenario changed when Sachin was allowed to open the innings against New Zealand in 1992 and he made it count. After that match, he was the opening batsman for the Indian cricket team. Sachin Tendulkar became very good at opening innings which helped the Indian team to have a good start in the match. The major runs Sachin scored in ODI cricket is by opening the batting for India. India got an opening in the form of Sachin Tendulkar who was very good at scoring and helping to set the momentum for India.

India started to get a good start in the match because of the opening which Sachin provided. The opposition was always under pressure because of his opening as they had no answers to the world-class batting which Sachin showed in every match. One of the things that made Sachin great was his ability to score against a very good bowling unit. He was consistent in scoring hundreds against teams such as Australia, New Zealand, and England.  He is still the player to have the highest runs against mighty Australia. From 1990 through 2000 Australian cricket teams were considered to be invisible. Playing against Australia was considered to be a nightmare for many batsmen but Sachin, it was the same as scoring for any other team. Essay on Sachin Tendulkar | My Favourite Sportsman | Short Biography

March 17, 2018 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is a former Indian batsman, and is one of the best sportspersons of all time. Born in 1973 in Mumbai, he went on to smash all exiting records from a very early age and eventually became the most prominent talent the cricketing world had ever witnessed.

The highest run scorer in test cricket as well as one day internationals, his list of cricketing records knows no bound.

He had won every single major cricketing award which is to be won, and has left his mark in other fields too, such as being the owner of the Kerala Blasters team in the Indian Super League, or being a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha.

Table of Contents

Sachin Tendulkar was born on 24 th  April, 1973 to a reputed Marathi novelist Ramesh Tendulkar, and insurance worker Rajni Tendulkar. He has three elder siblings- two brothers and one sister, all from Ramesh’s previous marriage. Legends say that he was named after the famous music composer Sachin Dev Burman.

Sachin’s career began with playing for his society’s cricket team, where he was noticed by Ramakant Achrekar. Achrekar was impressed by his skills, and asked his parents to change his school to Sharadashram Vidyamandir, as it had proper sports facilities and had already produced many famous cricketers.

He also started to coach Tendulkar at Shivaji Park, and Tendulkar credits him till date for playing a pivotal role in a famous cricketer. Apart from school cricket, Tendulkar started participating in club cricket as well. He was also enrolled in the MRF Pace Foundation as a fast bowler.

However, on noticing his batting, Dennis Lillie (former Australian cricketer) suggested him to focus on the same. The first turning point of Sachin’s life was the record unbroken partnership of 664 runs between him and his friend Vinod Kambli, which was the highest at that time in any form of cricket.

This took place in a match against St. Xavier’s High School in the Lord Harris inter-school shield, in the year of 1988.

Style of playing

Sachin Tendulkar is an all-rounder, excelling in both batting and bowling. He is a left-handed person, but uses his right hand dominantly while playing.

A right-hand batsman, Tendulkar is also a bowler, practicing off spin, leg spin, and medium pace. He has employed many modern and unorthodox stroked into his batting style, like the paddle sweep, and different forms of scoop and slash. He has also captained various teams across various formats, including the national team of India.

Early career of Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin played his debut test match against Pakistan in November, 1989, in Karachi, when he was only 16 years old.

However, he failed to leave a mark, as he scored only 15 runs in the match, and his performance in the entire series was overall unimpressive.

On his England tour, in 1990, he scored his first international century (119 not out) in Old Trafford, and began to lay the basis of a reserved spot for himself in the team.

His peak performance was during his 20s, between the years 1993-1999, where he built a reputation as one of the world’s best openers.

His performance in the world cups was especially outstanding. A touching incident was that of the 1999 world cup, where he scored a century on the very next day after performing the last rites of his father, to whom he dedicated this score.

Tendulkar was also made the captain of the Indian team, and served two stints in that role, none of which were very successful. He took over the role in 1996 and the performance of the team was exceedingly disappointing in the next year and a half.

He later succeeded Azharuddin to become the captain once again, but to no avail. Eventually, things improved when Sourav Ganguly became the captain of the Indian team in the year of 2000.

It is said that captaincy created an unnecessary burden for tendulkar which adversely affected his stints both as a batsman and as a captain. He later captained the IPL team Mumbai Indians and other teams for exhibition matches, etc.

Later Career

Sachin’s career during the early years of this century started to deteriorate, and people started raising concerns over his possible removal from the team. He chose to answer all such critiques through his stellar performance in the 2003 world cup which even took the India team to the finals.

He scored 673 runs in eleven matches in the tournament. Very soon, he became the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs and take 100 wickets in one day internationals. The next world cup in 2007 saw him in an all time low. His rise to his earlier form resumed during India’s tour to Australia during 2007-08.

Eventually, he became the very first cricketer to score a double century in a one-day match, which was earlier seen as an impossible task. He achieved this feat against South Africa in 2010. But what can be referred to as perhaps his best achievement is 100 international centuries (including both tests and one day internationals), the last of which came against Bangladesh at Mirpur.

He also served an instrumental role for India to win the 2011 world cup, and the final match at Wankhede (which is also his home ground) was an emotional moment for him indeed. He retired from international cricket, owing to poor performance, in November, 2012, leaving fans heartbroken all throughout the world.

Life after Retirement

After retirement, his major focus was the Indian Premier League, in which he represented Mumbai Indians as a player and later as a mentor; and the Champions’ League- both of which he went on to win in his career.

Although he was not an outstanding T20 player, the agile nature and beautiful stroked delivered by him is a rare sight in today’s cricket, which is hell bent on discarding the textbook techniques.

His biography was released both as a book- ‘Playing It My Way’, co-authored by Boria Majumdar, released in 2014- and as a movie, ‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams’, directed by James Erskine.

In April, 2012, he was nominated by the president as a member of the Rajya Sabha, and he continues to hold this prestigious post. He was involved with the ISL as well, as the owner of the Kerala Blasters team, and continues to play exhibition cricket matches and tournaments till date.

He was also the first Indian sportsperson to win the Bharat Ratna award. At present, he resides in Mumbai with his wife Anjali, and his children- Arjun and Sana.

  Conclusion

Sachin Tendulkar, often referred to as the greatest cricketer of all time, is a humble yet talented, sincere, and dedicated human being. There is so much to learn from him, as a person as well as a cricketer.

Sachin Tendulkar – The Opener

The real contribution by Sachin Tendulkar to Indian cricket is not the runs he scored or the matches he won. The main contribution by Sachin was the way he changed the opening in ODI cricket. He was given an opportunity to open against New Zealand in New Zealand in 1992 and he made it count. Thus, a very different dimension of Sachin Tendulkar came into light. The major contribution of runs scored by him in ODI cricket is by opening the batting for India. Thus, India got one of the reliable openers in Sachin who can also score at more than run a ball.

Soon after he started opening, India started to get good starts and opposition were under pressure right from the start. Thus, there have been many match winnings innings by Sachin since he started opening. One such inning that comes to mind is the ‘desert storm’. He scored two back to back hundreds against the mighty Australians in 1996 and won the series for India.

One of the things that made Sachin great was to score against the big sides. He consistently scored hundreds against big teams like Australia, England, and Pakistan. Also, he still is the player with the highest runs against Australia. This in itself shows the caliber of Sachin Tendulkar. Australia in those days was termed as the invincibles. Playing against Australia was always the toughest challenge that a batsman can face in those days. But for Sachin, it was just like scoring against any other team.

Sachin Tendulkar will always be remembered as one who changed the Indian cricket and made it a powerhouse. Sachin Tendulkar was born to play cricket only.

Essay – 3 My Favorite Player – Milkha Singh (600 words)

Milkha Singh’s name and picture pops up in my mind as soon as the name of my favorite player comes up. I was interested in this game and players from a very early age. Later after watching the movie “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” I was very impressed with the biography of Milkha Singh.

Biography of Milkha Singh

Milkha Singh’s life has always been full of sorrows and sufferings. Since childhood, he had to face many problems. Milkha Singh was born on 21 November 1929 according to Pakistani records. His actual place of birth is uncertain till date. According to records, he was born in a village named Govindpura, 10 km from Muzaffargarh district, which is presently located in Pakistan. Milkha Singh’s entire family was killed, except Milkha and his sister, in the violence at the time of Partition. Milkha Singh’s sister was married in Delhi when her sister was in Delhi only. Milkha Singh’s family was murdered right in front of his eyes and he somehow managed to escape from there. From there he escaped to India and lived with his sister for a few years, because he had no one other than his sister.

He used to be very sad alone because his parents’ shadow was snatched from his head. Thus there was no purpose left in his life. Later, under the guidance of Malkhan Singh, Milkha Singh applied to join the Indian Army and was selected in the Indian Army. It was while in the Indian Army that he realized his fast running talent. While in the army, he tried to participate in 200 meters and 400 meters for the first time but he could not succeed in it. Later he again participated in that competition for the second time and this time he won and was selected as a coach in the army.

Milkha Singh’s achievements and awards

  • Milkha Singh won many awards for our country and also represented India in International Games.
  • He became the first Indian male to win a gold medal in athletics at the Games common to independent India.
  • He also represented India in 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He performed well in the opening round of 200 and 400 meters and won the final round. He was a master at learning from his mistakes and was greatly inspired by other top players in the game. According to one of his statements, ‘He could not win this game but he got a lot to learn’.
  • He won gold medals in the races of 200 and 400 meters at the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games. He also set race records in the same track in the 200 and 400 meters in the same competition.

  • In 1960, he competed in the race against Abdul Khalid of Pakistan and won. At that time, General Ayub Khan of Pakistan honored him with the title of “Flying Sikh”.
  • In 1958, he was awarded the Padma Shri and later in 2001, he was awarded the Arjuna Award, but he refused to accept the award. Because he believed that this award should be given to those youth which they deserve.
  • Milkha Singh later married Nirmala Kaur, former captain of the Indian volleyball team. He was later promoted by the Army to the rank of a Subedar Joint Commission Officer. He was later assigned the post of Director of Sports in the Punjab Education Ministry and retired in 1998 while in that position.

Moral lessons from the life of Milkha Singh

Apart from me, many people have been greatly influenced and inspired by the life of Milkha Singh. He was a very courageous and talented person. His life was full of sorrows and sufferings. Since childhood, he faced many hardships but he never gave up. I salute his courage and talent. I have seen many people who have chosen the wrong path in the face of adversity. We need to show courage and patience in our adversity and learn from our mistakes. According to Milkha Singh, success is not achieved by adopting shortcuts. It requires hard work, dedication, motivation and proper guidance.

Milkha Singh is the pride of our nation. He has achieved many achievements in athletics and has given a new identity to India. The book “The Race of Life” is based on the autobiography of Milkha Singh. Later a film based on his life “Bhaag Milkha Singh Bhaag” was also made, which is a very inspirational film for the youth. MS Dhoni: Captain Cool, Cricket Maestro

Cricket, often hailed as a religion in India, finds its deity in the unassuming yet legendary figure of Mahendra Singh Dhoni—Captain Cool—the cricketer who seamlessly transformed into a captain, leader, and a source of inspiration for millions.

Dhoni’s journey from the cricket fields of Ranchi to the helm of the Indian cricket team is a saga of resilience, leadership mastery, and an indomitable spirit that has left an indelible mark on the sport.

In the early chapters of his life, Dhoni’s cricketing prowess was nurtured on the dusty grounds of Ranchi, where his unorthodox style caught the discerning eye of selectors.

Dhoni’s leadership acumen is etched in cricketing history. Taking over the captaincy of the Indian team, he led with a calm demeanor that earned him the moniker “Captain Cool.”

Under his leadership, India achieved unprecedented success, winning the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011. His ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations and make astute decisions on the field made him not just a captain but a maestro.

The annals of cricket history are adorned with iconic moments, and Dhoni has been at the forefront of many. His unforgettable last-ball six in the 2011 World Cup final, securing India’s victory, is etched in the memory of every cricket enthusiast.

His finishing prowess and the audacity to take charge in critical moments made him the heartbeat of the Indian cricket team. These moments elevated Dhoni from being a cricketing icon to a living legend.

Dhoni’s influence on Indian cricket extends beyond the field. His sportsmanship, humility, and passion for the game make him not just a cricketer but a role model.

He embodies the spirit of the sport, and his respect for the game elevates him to a level beyond mere statistics. Off the field, Dhoni’s calm demeanor and grounded nature contribute to his iconic status, transcending the boundaries of cricket fandom.

The impact of MS Dhoni on Indian cricket is immeasurable. He instilled a winning mentality in the team, fostering a culture of excellence and self-belief.

Dhoni’s knack for spotting talent and nurturing young players played a pivotal role in the emergence of a new generation of cricketing stars. His legacy is not confined to records but lives on in the ethos of Indian cricket.

As Dhoni gracefully stepped away from international cricket, the legacy he leaves behind is monumental. His impact is not merely statistical; it is a testament to the indomitable spirit, leadership, and lasting inspiration he has provided to cricket enthusiasts across the nation.

Personally, MS Dhoni represents more than a cricketer; he symbolizes resilience, leadership, and the ability to face life’s challenges with grace and determination.

In his journey, I find not just admiration for a sportsperson but a salute to the spirit of a small-town boy who conquered the world of cricket. MS Dhoni, in every sense, is my favorite sportsperson—a cricket maestro whose influence echoes in the heartbeats of millions of fans.

English essay on “my favourite sportsperson” best essay, paragraph, speech for class 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 students., my favourite sportsperson.

Cricket is the sport that holds the hearts of the Indians in its grip. Indians are the craziest fans of this sport. They live their lives, experience their joys and sorrows, victories and defeats through it. That is why the cricketers are their living gods. People adore them more than anything else. They hold ‘Pujas’ for the soundness of their health, for the betterment of their playing abilities, and for securing and ensuring their victory in the matches. I am also a diehard fan of cricket and my deity is none other than the master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar.

Sachin Tendulkar is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. He is the leading run-scorer and century-maker in Tests and one-day International Cricket. He is the first player to score a double century in the history of the One Day International (ODI) Cricket.

Born in Mumbai on 24th April 1973, Tendulkar was the son of a famous novelist of Marathi, Sh. Ramesh Tendulkar and Smt. Rajni, an employee in an Insurance firm. His father named him after his favourite Music Director, Sachin Dev Burman. Originally named as Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar as, Tendulkar began his cricketing career during his schooling at Sharadashram Vidyamandir High School under the guidance of his coach and mentor, Ramakant Achrekar. When he was young. Tendulkar would practice for hours on end in the nets. If he got tired, Achrekar would put a one-rupee coin on the top of the stumps that would go to the bowler who dismissed Tendulkar. The coin would go to Tendulkar if the bowlers failed to do so. Tendulkar now considers thirteen coins he won then as one of his most prized possessions. When he was fourteen, Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar gave him a pair of his own ultra-light pads which according to Tendulkar were “the greatest source of encouragement for me”. Years later, he surpassed Gavaskar’s world record of 34 Test Centuries. However on 24th May 1995. Sachin married Anjali, a pediatrician, and has two kids Sara and Arjun.

On December 11, 1988, Tendulkar aged just fifteen years scored 100 not out in his debut first-class match for Bombay against Gujarat making him the youngest Indian to score a century in his debut match. He is the only player to score a century in all three of his Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Irani Trophy debuts. He played his first Test match against Pakistan in Karachi in 1989. Although he made just 15 runs, being bowled by Waqar Younis but was known for handling numerous blows to his body at the hands of the Pakistani pace attack. His passion and dedication for the game can be observed for the incident that took place in the final test in Sialkot. He was hit on the nose by a bouncer but he declined medical help and continued to bat even as blood gushed from it.

Tendulkar’s performance through the years 1994-1996 coincided with his physical peak in his early twenties. His rise continued when he was the leading run-scorer at the 1996 Cricket World Cup scoring two centuries. He was the only Indian batsman to perform in the infamous semifinal against Sri Lanka. This was the beginning of a period at the top of the batting world, culminating in the Australian tour of India in early 1998 when he scored three consecutive centuries. He single-handedly won the ICC 1998 quarterfinal at Dhaka to pave way for India’s entry into the semifinals, when he took four Australian wickets scoring 141 runs in just 128 balls. After flying back to India during the 1999 cricket World Cup to attend to the funeral rites of his father, Tendulkar scored 140 off 101 balls in his next match against Kenya, dedicating it to his father.

His two tenures as captain of the Indian team were not very successful but Tendulkar remains an integral part of the Indian team’s strategic processes. Former Captain Rahul Dravid publicly acknowledge his suggestions as the promotion of Irfan Pathan had a splendid effect on the team’s fortunes. Tendulkar made 673 runs in 11 matches in the 2003 Cricket World Cup helping India reach the final. On December 10, 2005, he scored his record-breaking 35th Test Century against the Sri Lankans.

During the period from 2005-07, Tendulkar’s batting often seemed to be a shadow of its former self. He was inconsistent, and his big knocks mostly came in sedate, accumulative, and uncharacteristic fashion. However, after 2007 World Cup, his career had a second wind and his form and consistency have returned. He showed exceptional form in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2007-08. In the controversial New Year’s Test at Sydney, he scored an unbeaten 154 as India lost the test. This was his third century at the SCG, earning him an average of 221.33 at the ground. Even in the 2-Test series against South Africa in 2010, Tendulkar made seven and hundred in the first Test and 106 in the first innings of the second test. He continues to give his best till date.

Tendulkar has been honoured with the Padma Vibhushan award and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. He became the first sportsperson and the first personality without an aviation background to be awarded the honorary rank of Group Captain by the Indian Air Force. He has received honorary doctorates from Mysore University and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. He also holds the world record for playing the highest number of Tests and ODI matches. He is the first and the only player in Test Cricket history to score fifty centuries and the first to score fifty centuries in all International Cricket combined. He now has 100 centuries in International Cricket to his credit.

A cricketer par excellence, an active philanthropist, Sachin has risen to become a role model and a youth icon. He is a source of inspiration for everybody who wants to achieve excellence. May he live long! May God bless him with more success and more happiness in life!
