Using social cognitive theory as a guide, this research seeks to explain the perceptions of current and aspiring Indian entrepreneurs. A multiple case study approach using 19 interviews with intellectuals provided qualitative data to conduct a cross-case analysis of the two groups with the qualitative analysis software NVivo. Rare insights from current and aspiring opportunity-motivated entrepreneurial Chevening Fellowships from a predominantly necessity-motivated context offer valuable insights into entrepreneurship in India. The findings reveal what entrepreneurship means to established entrepreneurs, their motivation for embarking on the entrepreneurial journey, the skills they require to be successful, the challenges they face and their strategies to sustain are mostly different to what aspiring entrepreneurs believe how it would be. Compiled recommendations may help strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem, particularly in developing economy contexts, to help improve the 10% startup success rate.

FACTORS AFFECTING THE GROWTH OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP AMONG YOUTH IN INDIA

The growth of entrepreneurship leads to a positive economic growth. The youth of India are promoted through the environmental factors which shows rise in entrepreneurial spirit among youth. This research paper of our dissertation includes the environmental factors affecting the growth of entrepreneurship and interpretation of all the major psychological characteristics which lead to rise in growth of entrepreneurship in India. As per our interpretation of questionnaire which includes major psychological characteristics i.e. need for power, need for achievement, risk taking ability, strong will power and occupational background.  Problem: How psychological factor affecting the growth of entrepreneurship of youth of India.

It is a quantitative study wherein we have taken data of 530 young students studying in the final year of various professional courses of Uttarakhand state of India. The student target population chosen for this study was in the age group of 20- 24 years and represented all sections of the society. The male & female ratio of this study was 75 & 25 respectively. Data analysis has been done using different statistical tools. The results showed dependence of factors like personality of a student, intelligence of a student and his past experience in business on his intention of taking up entrepreneurship as a preferred career choice.

In this study we have tried to examine the effect of individual factors like intelligence, past self employment experience, past work experience and educational course of professional students on their decision to take up entrepreneurship as a career choice. It is a quantitative study wherein we have taken data of 530 young students studying in the final year of various professional courses (MBA/PGDM, MCA, B.Tech, BHMCT & B.Pharm) of Uttarakhand state of India. The student target population chosen for this study was in the age group of 20–24 years. The male & female ratio of this study was 75 & 25 respectively. Data analysis has been done using Cross tabulation and Chi square test. The results showed that past self-employment experience has a negative impact on student’s entrepreneurial inclination. No relationship was seen between the work experience (typically less than 3 years) and entrepreneurial inclination. Students scoring high on intelligence were seen to have no or little entrepreneurial inclination and students who were in MBA/ PGDM, MCA & BHMCT courses were little better inclined towards entrepreneurship in comparison to the rest of the courses.

The word "entrepreneur" is derived from the French verb entreprendre, meaning "to undertake". An entrepreneur is a person who, instead of working as an employee, starts and runs a small business, considering all the challenges and rewards of the venture. The entrepreneur is basically seen as an innovator, a source of creative ideas, goods, services and business/or processes. Entrepreneurs play an important role in any economy. They are the people who have the qualities and initiative required to anticipate and predict current and future business requirements and bring constructive new ideas to the market. Entrepreneurs who sail successfully through the risks of a startup are rewarded with profits, fame and continued growth opportunities. An entrepreneur plays a role of a coordinating agent in a capitalist economy. This coordination results from the efforts of the resources being channelized towards new potential lucrative opportunities. The entrepreneur drives required resources, both tangible and intangible, promoting capital formation. In a the business world which is full of uncertainty, it is the entrepreneur who can actually contribute in clearing up uncertainty, as he makes calculative decisions or assumes risk. Established organizations face increased competition and challenges from these budding entrepreneurs, that motivates them towards research and development efforts for their product & services. The Government of India has undertaken several initiatives and instituted policy measures to inculcate a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country. Job creation is a utmost challenge facing India. With a significant and unique demographic advantage, India, however, has immense potential to innovate, nurture entrepreneurs and create jobs for the benefit of the nation and the world. Career selection is one of many important choices students make in determining their future plans and this decision will impact them throughout their lives. A number of factors play a role in deciding the choice of a career. Personality as a whole has its own impact on choice of a career for an individual. Some of the traits may be positive for some professions while others may be negative for other professions. This paper attempts to examine the effects of some of the personality factors of students on their choice of becoming an entrepreneur. Primary data was collected from a sample of 530 final year students of professional courses in Uttarakhand who were interviewed and assessed on various personality factors. The key research objective of the study was to develop and empirically link general personality characteristics of students and their career intention upon completion of their professional course. The results from this study show that personality factors such as level of faith and commitment, drive and determination, level of energy and level of tolerance of risk and uncertainty influence a student’s decision to become an entrepreneur. However, personality factors of leadership and passion are seen to be independent factors.

The research was conducted to exploring the perception of youth towards entrepreneurship. It was the objective of the study on youth perception towards entrepreneurship.It was also aimed at determining the attitude level of youth towards contemporary scenario of the entrepreneurship.The data was collected from one hundred respondents who are from the different academic disciplines and various professionals . The respondents were selected using the stratified random sampling method. Data was collected through pre-tested questionnaire. Descriptive statements analysis was used to explain and highlight the variables, while statistical tools were applied in the analysis of the relationships existing between variables . The study concluded that entrepreneurial influencing factors such as personality traits, learning,annualincome,family business experiences,economic status of family,government policies, social factors and culture; and entrepreneurial development factors, such as information technology development and education system showing impact on the favourable perception of the youth towards entrepreneurship .

Presently, in India, more than half of the population is in the age group of 15 to 59, known as the economically active age group. It is projected that every year around 6 to 8 million youth will enter the labour force each year for coming ten years. However, on the supply side, there are not these many jobs being created. This indicates that there is a pressing need to effectively implement the system which can absorb the youth in profession. Promoting entrepreneurship in society is one well accepted mechanism to generate employment which has potential to cater to the said problem. However, there are various factors which affect the inclination towards self-employment. Study of these factors will help to understand the perspective of youth towards entrepreneurship. The research study presented here has identified various demographic and non-demographic factors affecting youth towards entrepreneurship. The empirical study has been undertaken focusing on the undergraduate students with sample size of 108 selected mainly from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar as both the districts are having many institutes offering education in different streams. The research finding has revealed that factors like age, gender, family income, entrepreneurship course etc. do not influence undergraduate students to opt for entrepreneurship. However, the factors like association with entrepreneurship related activities at university level, parents' encouragement and role models from business community are significant in motivating the students towards starting their own business. Based on the findings of the present study and learning lessons from other countries, the author provides recommendations for universities and policy makers to boost the spirit of entrepreneurship among youth.

This study aims to determine and classify the barriers experienced by students to start entrepreneurship. This type of research is exploratory. The sampling technique used proportionate stratified random sampling with a total sample of 262 people. The Data analysis technique used is Factor Analysis. The collected data is processed statistically using SPSS version 24.0. The result of the research shows that there are seven new factors that can hamper the students to start the business, first the basic ability of entrepreneurship, the two factors of striving, the three factors of future uncertainty, the four factors of courage, the five resource factors, the six risk factors, the seven information factors.
