Sozdinler writes about why people should play sports, elaborating on several benefits of sports. First, sports help improve coordination, cognition, circulation, and physique. Second, they provide us with entertainment and relief from the stresses of life. Finally, sports competitions are economically beneficial, allowing countries to expose their people and goods to foreigners.

“Women who participate in sports are more likely to do better in school, attend college and make higher wages. In a survey of 401 female executives, 82 percent reported playing organized sports while growing up. Hillary understands the role sports can play in empowering women. As she has said, “Sports can make you stronger, tougher, more confident, more resilient, and those qualities can stay with you long after you finish the race or the final buzzer sounds.”

4.   Extreme Sports by Archie Simmons

“Various news stories, movies, and other sources in the media help spread the impression of the risks and dangers of the sports. Although the public hears mostly about all the negative effects of extreme sports, there are a variety of ways to decrease one’s risk of injuries through proper precautions and practice. In saying that, there are also many benefits to extreme sports as seen in Bode Miller’s memoir, as well as interviews with other extreme sport athletes.”

Simmons gives a brief introduction to the world of extreme sports in his essay. Extreme sports require specialized gear and much preparation and has an increased risk of injury. Simmons writes that athletes continue to participate in extreme sports because they know the risks and prepare to avoid them. He cites a memoir by Bode Miller, explaining his methods and training to ski quickly and carefully.

5. The Mental Health Awakening Has Reached the Sports World  — Now What? by Maggie Ryan

“Sports can provide community, boost physical and mental health, foster self-confidence, and serve as an escape. Sports can also be the opposite of all those things: isolating, physically and mentally debilitating, or something that athletes can come to dread. The dividing line between the two, Post says, lies in the tools and preventative care that athletes have at their disposal.”

Ryan writes about the effects of competitive sports on athletes’ mental health. Sometimes athletes are pressured into making sports the center of their lives, affecting their mental health and social life to their detriment. Ryan cites several athletes who have been open about their struggles, including Simone Biles and Jasmine Blocker. The industry must work on this issue and break the stigma around mental health.

9 Prompts for Essays About Sports

Essays About Sports: My favorite sport

All sports enthusiasts follow one particular sport. Whether you play it or not, choose your favorite sport and briefly describe how it is played. Also, explain why it is your favorite; this should be based entirely on your opinion.

Participating in a sport can make you stronger and healthier. In your essay, write about a few of the many physical benefits playing sports can have. This can include, muscle strengthening, cardio workout, increased stamina, and good mental health. Give examples of specific sports and the body parts they can help you strengthen, such as football increasing leg strength and increasing stamina.

Playing sports can also clear your mind and make you healthier mentally. Discuss how sports can improve your cognition and mental health, such as certain skills, values, and emotions they can promote. Ensure your argument is well-supported and provide research and statistics for a convincing essay.

In your essay, write about your stance on playing sports, specifically whether you like playing them or not. Discuss the pros and cons of playing sports, and include anecdotes of the different kinds of sports you have tried out. Conclude your essay by deciding whether you are a fan of playing sports or not.

This essay topic is simple and straightforward. Choose any two sports and give a short description of each. Organize your essay according to their similarities and differences in gameplay, physical activity required, and training. Be sure to choose sports that are not too different, and make sure they have some similarities. For example, you could compare and contrast American football with Rugby, discuss the similarities and differences for an exciting piece of writing.

Some sports are deemed “unconventional” due to a lack of physical activity or belittlement for their more art-centric practices. These include chess, thumb wrestling, and dance. Choose a more niche sport and write about its mechanics and popularity in the world today.

Many sports force athletes to risk their lives, such as bungee jumping and paragliding. In your essay, you can write about one of these “extreme sports” and what they entail. Focus on your chosen sport’s health risks and dangers and perhaps explain why people still participate despite the risk.

To excel in sports, one needs to have values such as commitment, courage, and teamwork. Discuss one or more of these skills and values, giving their definition and usage in sports. Be as detailed as possible for an engaging, well-supported essay.

You should say:

  • How you first knew about it
  • How often you practise it
  • And explain why it is your favourite sport.

Sample 1 – Football

I would like to talk about my favorite sport, which is football, the king of sport to everyone in Vietnam.

I first knew about it when I was 15 years old. It was my classmates who invited me to join his football club with other friends in his neighborhood. I had a great time with them, for sure.

I used to play it after school with my friends as it was the only free time I have for the whole day. Nowadays I am pretty busy with my work and study so I had to give up the hobby. But sometimes if I have a long holiday I will arrange a small football match with my old classmates. Those football matches often end with us being in a small restaurant where we drink and chit-chat.

I love this sport for several reasons: First, it helps to improve my physical and mental health. Second, I can also learn teamwork skills which are crucial in all aspects of life. Last but not least, since I started playing this sport, I have made a lot of friends who are now my best playmates.

Sample 2 – Swimming

I would like to talk about my favorite sport, which is swimming.

I first knew about it when I was 10 years old. My mom thought that I should learn to swim at an early age so that I wouldn’t drown in the water. Frankly speaking, I kinda enjoyed the swimming class as I guess I was born with the Water element.

Nowadays, I still keep the habit of going to the swimming pool every Saturday afternoon with my boyfriend who is also a fan of this water sport. Only when I am snowed under a heavy workload do I ever skip a day.

I love this sport for several reasons: First, it helps to keep my body in perfect shape. Second, swimming is a great sport for me to improve my height. Last but not least, since I started this sport, I barely feel stressed or overworked. All in all, I suggest this sport is a must-have pastime for everyone.

Sample 3 – Badminton

I would like to talk about my favorite sport, which is badminton, a popular sport in Vietnam.

I first knew about it when I was 15 years old. My father thought that I was a bit overweight so he forced me to join a badminton training course with his friends. I have to admit that even though I was a bit upset for being made to do something against my will, I soon got into it after only a week.

Unfortunately, these days, as a white-collar, I mostly spend my day in the office and only reach home by 7 p.m. So, I do not have any time for badminton anymore.

Anyway, I still love this sport for several reasons: First, it helped me to lose some weight which led to better health. Second, when I practiced the sport in the sports center near my house, I made plenty of cool friends who supported me a lot in life. Last but not least, after knowing this sport, I would say for sure I could overcome my timidity of being a big size person and make an effort to change my look. All in all, I suggest this sport is a must-have pastime for everyone.

Sample 4 – Taekwondo

I would like to talk about my favorite sport, which is Taekwondo, a kind of martial art from Korea.

I first knew about it when I was 15 years old. My parents thought that I should learn something to defend myself from bullies at school. Also, I was a bit overweight so this was a perfect sport for me. I soon got into it quickly and it has become my most favorite pastime activity even until now when I am 23 years old.

Oftentimes, as I have no classes on Sunday afternoon, I will spend my free time enjoying this sport with other martial artists in a sports club near my house. They are quite helpful in showing me some tactics and effective moves. Sometimes we hold some small matches for fun and have a feast in a small restaurant afterward.

There are several reasons why I am truly in love with Taekwondo. First, thanks to this sport, I could lose some weight and at the moment I have a kind of a fit body. Second, since I started this sport I have hardly catch any common health issues like fever, flu, or cold. Third, my social circle has been getting wider and wider as I have met so many cool mates who come from all walks of life. All in all, I suggest this sport is a must-have pastime to try.

Sample 5 – Running

I would like to talk about my favorite sport, which is running, an easy and free sport to try for everyone.

I only started it a few months ago thanks to my colleagues who are professional runners. I was convinced by how well-shaped they look and how passionate they are about this sport. Therefore, I decided to follow them and try running in the park near my office. Honestly speaking, I fell in love with it pretty quickly after a week though at the beginning I was almost exhausted.

I always reach the park at 5 p.m after work then run around it until 6 p.m. On Saturday when I only work in the morning, I spend more than two hours running in the afternoon and I have to admit that Saturday is the most productive day for me to run. Sometimes when my colleagues can join me in the park, we have a great journey together and share fun office stories during our breaks.

There are several reasons why I am fond of this sport. First, it is a rather cheap and easy sport to try. All we need is a pair of running shoes and a bottle of water. Second, this is a sport that everyone of all age brackets and genders can enjoy, which also brought me some new friends while doing it in the park. They are quite nice and friendly people. Third, since I started this sport I hardly catch any common health issues like fever, flu, or cold. What’s more? I can perform better at work and show higher productivity only after a month of training. I mean I can work for longer hours without feeling tired. All in all, I recommend that everyone try this sport.

Essay on My Favourite Sport Badminton

Among all the indoor and outdoor activities, I love to play badminton the most. Badminton is played as an indoor and outdoor game but traditionally it was an indoor game. It is one of the most admired sports among children and adults. Badminton is my favourite sport because it requires speed, practice, precision, stamina, and accuracy all at the same time.

A player needs to be very attentive while playing badminton. When each stroke of the shuttle makes a ‘whoosh’ sound, it infuses a feeling of competitiveness and enthusiasm to perform extraordinarily against the opponent.

I am a huge admirer of Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu. Watching them perform makes me feel so proud and more inclined towards the sport. It’s my dream to play a badminton tournament at the National level and win for the country.

Writing an Essay About A Favourite Rugby Player

Below, you will find tips and hacks that will let you write a great essay about your favorite rugby player. We collected pieces of advice that will ultimately fit any type of essay, from narrative to descriptive. Using our universal tips will let you boost your writing performance and learn to create meaningful and flawless essays. You can also use our pieces of advice when writing papers on other topics.

Start with preparation

The successful process of writing an essay about your favorite rugby player starts with arranging your workplace. Take care about comfort in the zone you will stay in while working on an essay. The table must be situated far from loud noises. For example, if you have roommates or loud family members around, ask them to reduce their activity. If possible, switch the location to a quieter one. Many students work on essays in classrooms, in libraries, co-workings, etc.

Your workplace must be inspiring and free of unnecessary objects like food, glasses, magazines, toys, etc.

Read the instructions

A teacher who has assigned you to write an essay about your favorite rugby player will provide you with manuals. These manuals will contain core requirements for the word count, number of paragraphs, tone of voice, style of formatting (MLA, Chicago, APA), structuring/outlining, referencing, etc.

Following the instructions of a teacher is a basic way to score a good grade. However, more than just completing manuals is required to score the highest grade. For an A-grade essay about your favorite rugby player, you need to choose a non-trivial topic and provide in-depth research.

If, after reading the manuals provided to you by a teacher, you are not sure that you got all the information correctly, ask questions. It would be better to specify all before you start writing an essay.

Formulate a topic

Writing a meaningful and catchy essay about your favorite rugby player requires an author to choose a good topic. Here are several strategies for choosing a topic for a successful essay.

First, you can choose one of the topics suggested for you in the teacher’s manuals. However, most teachers want students to formulate essay topics by themselves to see how they can do it correctly.

The second way to formulate a good topic is to formulate it yourself. For example, when writing a paper about your favorite rugby player, you can describe a part of his biography and approach it creatively.

Third option for those who lack ideas on essay topics if using online title generating tools. These instruments allow you to get several ideas of topics by entering only several keywords.

Remember that choosing an inspiring topic will make it easier for you to write a great paper that will be interesting to your readers.

Collect information

Any essay about sports requires patience when collecting information. The quality of research you provide defines the result of your work. All data must be checked and taken only from trusted books, sites, and other sources. It would be great if you included some fragments of interviews with players. The sources you used must be properly arranged and cited to avoid issues when a teacher checks for plagiarism in your essay.

Generate the main thesis

A successful essay requires an author to generate the core idea. It must be a statement that you will explain in detail and add arguments proving that you are right. The main statement must be highlighted in the introduction of an essay. A correctly formulated thesis statement contains a questionable fact, so readers can relate to the case by agreeing with it or forming their own opinion. The main thesis must be explained in detail in the body of an essay.

Outline and draft

If you lack time before the deadline or want to optimize the process of writing an essay, combine the stages of drafting and structuring. Drafting an essay will let you not only generate several fresh ideas, but also make notes related to sources. A patiently written draft that contains many additional information will help you to structure your thoughts.

Start writing a draft of an essay with an introduction. This part of a draft must provide information about the topic and introduce the main thesis. After you finish drafting and proceed with writing an essay, you will need to add an introduction with some hooks to catch the attention of readers. But in the stage of drafting, it would not be necessary to do so.

To draft the main body of an essay, you need to write down all the statements that support your main thesis. The number of these supporting statements will define the number of paragraphs in your paper. When you add the draft with more information, remember to make sentences and paragraphs cohesive.

The last component of the draft would be a conclusion. An essay should be wrapped up with a clear summary that will repeat the core ideas. This section does not require additional information. However, one can suggest some ideas or topics for other essays.

Edit an essay

After you finish writing an essay and provide all details related to a to[pic, start the stage of editing. Proofreading is a several-stage process that not only reduces grammar mistakes but also requires an author to get rid of punctuation errors, typos, repeated words, etc. Quality editing also requires an author to check all the dates, names, surnames, etc. By spending time to polish your essay patiently, you will avoid problems related to issues that happened because you missed attention.

Essays are popular tasks that teachers use as instruments of estimation of students’ ability to formulate thoughts in a convincing and precise manner. To write a good essay about your favorite rugby player, you must go through the instructions provided by a teacher and follow all the requirements. Choosing a non-trivial topic and a clear formulation will add to your scores as teachers appreciate creativity. After, you need to generate the main thesis highlighting your core idea. By combining the stages of drafting and structuring, you will sufficiently save time. By spending enough time reducing errors and polishing the text, you will raise your chances of scoring a high grade. We wish you good luck!

My Favourite Sport Essay in English for Class 4 Students

Essay on my favourite sport for class 4 students.

The Essay on “ My Favourite Sport” has been prepared by our teachers at Vedantu to help kids with their essay about my best friend. These are drafted in a very easy and simple language for you to understand and remember it for a longer time.

During our summer holidays, we even went to summer camp together to learn cricket and made a lot of memories. Moreover, we also invented new and our own handshake which only we both knew. This bonding between us has taught me that family doesn’t end with blood because my best friend is no less than my family.

Last year, in summer we both went with his parents to watch a cricket match on the ground. From then, we both started liking it and decided to go and learn the sport together. Cricket is a very interesting sport and it has a lot of advantages to it. During the holidays we went to learn for 6 hours a day and learnt that we need to be good at both bowling and batting. Initially, we were taught how to hold the ball and catches. They focused more on running as Feilding is also necessary for Cricket. Our sports academy has many learners, we divide ourselves into a group and play matches every Sunday.

All these are making our bonding even more stronger. We always wait for holidays to play with each other and remain friends.

Introduction

Association football, further generally known as football or soccer, doesn't have a classical history. Notwithstanding any parallels to other ball games played around the world, FIFA has recognised that no literal connection exists with any game played in age outside Europe.

The ultramodern rules of association football are grounded on the mid-19th century standards to standardise the extensively varying forms of football played in the public seminaries of England.

The ultramodern game of association football began with mid-nineteenth century sweats between original football clubs to regularize the varying sets of rules, climaxing in the conformation of The Football Association in London, England in 1863.

The rules drafted by the association allowed clubs to play with each other without disagreement and specifically banned both running off the ball (except by goalkeepers) and hacking during open field play.

After the fifth meeting of the association, a schism surfaced between association football and the rules played by the Rugby academy, latterly to be called rugby football. Football has been an Olympic sport ever since the alternate ultramodern Summer Olympic Games in 1900.

Among many sports, I enjoy playing and watching basketball. The reason why basketball is my favorite sport is simple: it is competitive, trains every muscle in the body, and encourages teamwork.

Ever since I started playing basketball at a young age, I knew that it was a sport that pushes one’s limits, and is highly rewarding. From learning how to dribble the ball to endless shooting practices: I enjoyed every minute of training. During the time I played basketball, I made some great friends in my team, and the other side of the cort. While the training and warming up exercises may seem extremely challenging at times, without basketball, I would never have achieved my current level of physical  fitness. I soon realized that I was becoming better at athletics and other sports, and my endurance increased.

I always looked up to older players as role models, and tried to follow their professional footsteps. Watching and playing basketball is highly motivating,  and – unlike running and other sports – it  trains the upper and lower body’s muscles.

I also like watching basketball matches, as they are fast-paced, and there is a lot of action on court. Understanding the rules of the game completely, having played, I can follow the  moves of players, and learn from their  style, and occasional mistakes. I  believe that basketball is competitive, based on a common understanding between the team and the coach, and a highly tactical sport.

Overall, basketball is my favorite sport because it is challenging, easy to follow, and highly competitive. I also love the team element in the game, and the fact that basketball matches can be won plainly through strategy, even if the opposing team has stronger and more skilled players.

Essay on Soccer | My Favourite Sport

December 4, 2017 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Today, soccer has become very popular in the countries of America and Europe. The history of soccer is very interesting and different compared to other sports in the world. It is said that soccer was first found during the second and third century in China . It was the time of the Han dynasty in China that time and it was found that people were playing with leather balls and kicking it towards a small net.

It has also been found that the Greeks and Romans played with the ball for fun and enjoyment. According to the facts, people used to kick the ball at Kyoto in Japan and this became a very popular sport. Slowly, soccer started to experience growth in England. The ball which was first used is supposed to be the head of one Danish brigand. Earlier soccer had many illegal practices in which people were allowed to bite, punch and kick.

But the aim of the game was the players had to bring the ball to their target place. People started liking this game a lot and so whenever there was a soccer game, they would come to watch and the place would be crowded. But sometimes the game would turn out to be serious and there was violence during the game. Soccer was loved by soldiers. They loved it so much that they used to miss their archery practice in order to watch the game.

As the game started to become violent and fierce, King Edward III barred the game in the year of 1365. After this order of King Edward III, in 1424 King James I of Scotland declared that no one should play football. From 19 th  century, this game became popular even in schools and colleges.

Both the schools and colleges had different groups for the matches. The clubs and schools met together to make rules for the match. The game of soccer’s foundation was done in 1869. This year it was decided by the Football Association that the ball would not be allowed to handle the ball in any manner.

Further the game became more popular among the traders, soldiers and sailors. This helped in spreading of the game in other parts of the world as well. Soon different countries started going to Europe and South America for this game. After gaining so much popularity, FIFA (Federation of International Football Association) was formed in 1904.

From 1930 onwards, different leagues of football started to function in different countries. Finally, in Uruguay the first world cup by FIFA was organized. This game is now becoming popular and almost every country in this world is progressing in this game.

Table of Contents

Rules of soccer and how is it played

The rules of soccer basically includes rules on the use of hands, throw-ins, corner and goal kicks, fouls of the game, free kicks, penalty kicks, touch rule and the offside positions. Earlier the rules for rugby, handball and soccer were very similar. In soccer the players are not allowed to handle the ball.

Sometimes even the goalkeepers cannot use their hands. Making it easier, if the goalkeeper gets the ball from his team itself they are not allowed to take the pass. They can only kick the ball from their feet. If he does not do that it will be called as an indirect kick.

My favourite sport Soccer

If the ball goes out of the field by crossing the goal line or by the end of the field then a corner kick or goal kick is given. There is a corner kick if the ball was kicked by the defense time. While there is a goal kick if the ball was kicked by the other team.

The goal can be kicked anywhere from inside the box of goal area. No player is allowed to touch the ball until the ball leaves the area which is known as penalty area. If any players touches it before then the kick is given. The corner kick takes place from the corner near to which the ball had left.

It is very important to know the difference between a direct kick and an indirect kick. If there is a direct kick, a player can put the ball into goal directly. But in an indirect kick, the ball cannot be put into goal directly. First it needs to be hit or kicked by another player except the one who has kicked the ball.

If the defense team does a foul during contact or there is a handball, there is a penalty kick. During a penalty kick, the ball is kept on the center of the goal, that is, on the penalty place. All the players must be back of the penalty area and arc. They can move from there only after the players taking the penalty kicks the ball.

A player is not allowed to touch the ball two times. These rules are followed in most of the games. They are not allowed to throw the ball at the first time and throw it. Players cannot remain in the offside while there is a throw-in, goal kick and corner kick.

Difference between soccer and football

Many people call football with an alternative name of soccer. According to some both the games are same. But for some they are two different games. In some ways both the games are similar but they have differences as well. For many countries people consider football as the same thing. For some football is like the game of rugby but in some places in soccer only the feet’s are used to kick the ball.

Most of the countries have their own ideas and perception on football and soccer. Actually, many sports in which feet is used along with the ball, all of them are given the name as football. Under this there are many categories and soccer is one of them.

In most of these categories the balls used to play the game are round in shape but in soccer it is mostly sphere. In soccer there is no pause like how the players pause in a football match. Thus, the difference and similarities and between these two is very difficult depending on where a person resides because all of them understand these games in a different way.

How has the game of soccer changed from before?

The game of soccer has changed a lot from the time it was first played. There have many been new rules formed for the game so that there is no cheating and the match is played in a fair way. Earlier when people used to play this game there was more violence than the actual game.

Today, there is no existence of such violence compared to before. People became violent while playing the game because there were no strict rules for the game. Only after a few years the rules were formed and the game turned out be less violent.

There were restrictions put on which body parts can be used to play this game. There have been changes in the offside rule, tackling the ball, penalty kicks, and the format of the game and eligibility of a person to join the team. Later, different kicks were introduced in the game and the work of the referee was increased and changed. There have been many changes in the ball used in this game from before.

The balls come in variety and the teams have many options on which ball to use. The shoes which players used while playing has also experienced a few changes. Today, the game of soccer has become very famous and most of the schools and colleges have their own soccer teams.
