The Case Study of Vanitas Manga Volume 1

There once lived a vampire known as Vanitas, hated by his own kind for being born under a full blue moon, as most arise on the night of a crimson one. Afraid and alone, he created the “Book of Vanitas,” a cursed grimoire that would one day take his vengeance on all vampires; this is how the story goes, at least.

Vanitas no Karte follows Noé Archiviste, a young man who is traveling aboard an airship in 19th century Paris with one goal in mind: to find the Book of Vanitas. A sudden vampire attack leads him to meet the enigmatic Vanitas, a doctor who specializes in vampires and, much to Noé’s surprise, an entirely ordinary human. The mysterious doctor has inherited both the name and the infamous text from the Vanitas of legend, using the grimoire to heal his patients. But behind his kind demeanor lies something a bit more sinister…

Clarification on Vampire of the Blue Moon

So we know that the Vampire of the Blue Moon (Vanitas/"Luna") is who took in Michael and Vanitas (human, no. 69). Was the Vampire already a curse-bearer when they met Michael and Vanitas? Or did that happen suddenly on the night that Vanitas killed them? Did the Vampire take the name "Luna" just for fun or because they didn't feel comfortable with the name Vanitas any longer (because they were a curse-bearer)? Also, I'm confused about who exactly Vanitas(human) wants to get revenge on: the being that cursed the Vampire of the Blue Moon or the Vampire themself?

The One Piece Remake: Series Director Confirms The Length of The Show

Weakest characters in the fairy tail guild, ranked, my hero academia: the abandoned plotlines at the end of the story, explained.

Warning: This contains major spoilers for The Case Study of Vanitas The main character of The Case Study of Vanitas keeps things pretty close to the vest, but fans are slowly getting bits and pieces of Vanitas' life, and unfortunately for him, it's not a pretty picture. Vanitas was born to a doctor and a performer, resulting in his mother dying in childbirth. He was raised by his father, a doctor, who traveled with his mother's group of performers. While still a child, vampires attacked and killed everyone but him, delivering him into the hands of the chasseurs. Vanitas resided at the church and resolved to become a chasseur himself in order to slay the monsters that ruined his life. His training was already underway by the time he caught the eye of Dr. Moreau, a mad scientist that was determined to turn humans into vampires .

Dr. Moreau had Vanitas kidnaped right off a battlefield, leaving behind the body of another boy that was roughly the same height as him in order to fool the other members of the church into thinking he died in action. It was deep underground the chasseurs' headquarters, in Dr. Moreau's secret lab, that Vanitas was given the label test subject No. 69. It was here that Vanitas first met Mikhail, or Misha, as No. 71.

Luna, The Vampire of the Blue Moon, Saves Vanitas and Mikhail

case-study-of-vanitas-vanitas

Dr. Moreau pushed the children through many agonizing experiments , Vanitas taking some in Mikhail's place in order to keep the younger safe, all in order to use the two Books of Vanitas to change the World Formula. These books could only be used by the Vampire of the Blue Moon themselves or by members of their clan. Moreau injected the vampire's blue blood into Mikhail and Vanitas in order to turn them into pseudo-kin. Before the final experiment was complete, the Vampire of the Blue Moon appeared and saved both children, taking them in as their own. When Vanitas asked what they wanted with him and Mikhail, they seemed confused and just stated that Vanitas called for help, much to his confusion.

The Vampire of the Blue Moon , whom Vanitas gives the name Luna, took care of the children for what appears to be a number of years. They lead them to the house of an alchemist friend of theirs and dealt with the children's current injuries. In the throes of a fever, Vanitas explained how he ended up in the lab to Luna. Luna called him kind even as he desperately denied it. Luna takes it upon themselves to teach the children how to read, fight, and about the different Malnomen of curse bearers. It was during this time that Luna probably took him to Altus since that seems to be the only reasonable excuse for him to have gotten there previously.

As time goes on, it is stated that Luna brought the children with them in order to try and help their damaged bodies from going out. Dr. Moreau's experiments pushed the children passed humanity and closer to what vampires are. This state is delicates; at any moment their bodies might give under the stain. Luna, as a last resort, offered to turn both of them into proper members of the Blue Moon clan. Mikhail agreed wholeheartedly, but Vanitas explicitly refused. He stated that even if he died the next day, he wanted to remain human.

Vanitas Kills Luna

The-Case-Study-of-Vanitas

This brings forth the mystery of why Vanitas accepted being made a vampire kin when he killed Luna. The details behind this situation have not been revealed yet, but Vanitas, thinking Mikhail is dead , kills Luna because they had become a curse bearer. Luna seemed to be aware of their curse and made Vanitas promise to never let someone see his memories. It appears that this spurred Vanitas to place that hypnotic suggestion on himself to kill anyone who ever tried to steal his memories.

Vanitas' relationship with Luna seems to be completely complicated. He seems to think of them fondly, but there is a deep-seated hatred for them at the same time. Vanitas is following their advice and remembering conversations with them, like when they promised that one day he'd find someone to love as long as he doesn't close his heart. But at the same time, Vanitas has visceral reactions to Dominique de Sade's implication that he worships Luna or when Mikhail wanted to bring Luna back to life. He has started multiple times that his greatest revenge on Luna is to save curse bearers , and that he has spent the entire time since he killed them trying to ruin their memory, and yet there is a certain kindness mixed into all of that.

RELATED: The Case Study of Vanitas: Vampire Lore Explained

The mark of possession on Vanitas' arm allows him to wield the Book of Vanitas, allowing him to change the World Formula and save curse bearers. This mark seems to grow the more he uses his powers, consuming and changing him into something Dr. Moreau tried to create. There is an implication that using the book is slowly killing him and may be an explanation for the anime is told through Noe's flashbacks after having killed Vanitas.

After killing Luna and believing Mikhail to be dead, Vanitas started healing curse bearers, and became a regular costumer of Dante and the other dhampirs' information network, and getting on the radar of the vampires of the Crimson Moon. Dante had stated that Vanitas had other 'shields' before Noe , but he always got bored of them and ditched them eventually. Dante seems surprised by how long Vanitas has stayed with Noe, even going so far as to share a room with him.

That currently brings us to the setting of the anime, where Vanitas and Noe as serially going on quests to save corrupted vampires. Much about Vanitas' life is still a mystery, like his name only appearing as "xxxx" in the manga whenever not addressed by Vanitas. The details of his apparent death are one of the main draws to this anime, and leave anime-only fans mand manga readers on the edge of their seat for every new installment of The Case Study of Vanitas .

The Case Study Of Vanitas Part 2 - What We Know So Far

Vanitas from The Case Study of Vanitas

On Aug. 6, the English-dubbed version of "The Case Study of Vanitas" arrived at Funimation's website , bringing the steampunk-styled supernatural mystery manga series to life for a whole new audience. The vampire -based anime, set in Paris of the 19th century, is very atmospheric, what with its airships, period clothing and blue-moon and crimson vampires. It starts with the young vampire Noé, who is asked by his teacher to go to Paris to look for the titular book. In an incident on the airship, he meets a girl named Amelia — who turns out to be a vampire named Florifel, who just needs her name returned to her — and blue-eyed Vanitas himself. Vanitas enlists his help in changing the "curse-bearing" vampires back to normal using the grimoire in question.

"The Case Study of Vanitas" has aired 12 episodes of its split-cour season, which is normal for anime shows — but now leaves fans to wonder when Part 2 will happen, and what will happen going forward, since the series hasn't exactly concluded its plot. If you're one of the fans anxiously awaiting news of the second part of the first season, here's what we know so far.

When is the release date for The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2?

Vanitas and Noe in The Case Study of Vanitas

The @vanitas_anime Twitter account announced on Sept. 17 that the second cour (or quarter of a year) of "The Case Study of Vanitas" is coming in January 2022. This is good news, as it means fans won't have too long to wait:  Anime News and Facts is reporting that the 12 episodes in the second part of the split-cour series will air between Jan. 8 and March 26, 2022. It should be noted that these dates refer to the Japanese release, not the English one.

However, English-speaking fans shouldn't experience too much of a delay. The initial Japanese run premiered on various channels starting July 2 ( via Anime News Network ), which means it was subtitled with the first episode dubbed by the time it released on Funimation a little over a month later. Comingsoon.com said that Funimation had released five dubbed episodes by September 17 (a paid subscription is required to access the dubbed versions of newer episodes).

Hopefully, that means U.S. fans will be streaming at least a subtitled second part of Season 1 by springtime.

Who are the characters in The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2?

Luca and Jeanne meet Noe and Vanitas

The main characters of the series include Noé Archiviste, played in the Japanese by Kaito Ishikawa, and Vanitas (not the original of the book), played by Natsuki Hanae. Supporting characters include Jeanne (Inori Minase), a vampire girl also called the "Hellfire Witch"; Luca (Shino Shimoji), a polite vampire boy ranking just below the queen, who is trying to save his brother; Dominique (Ai Kayano), the aristocratic daughter of the alien lord the Marquis de Sade; Veronica (Yoko Hikasa), Dominique's sister who hates humans; Ruthven (Toshiyuki Morikawa), Luca's uncle and the hero who brokered peace between humans and vampires.

Others include Dante (Taro Kuichi), Johann (Koji Yusa), and Richie (Riho Kuma), Vanitas' information brokers, and Noé's unnamed teacher (Akira Ishida), the one who sent him to find the book. Vampire Naenia (Kaori Nazuka), vampire hunter Laurent (Kengo Kawanishi), Holy Knight Olivier (Tomoaki Maeno) and Noé's first friend Louis de Sade (Miyuri Shimabukuru) also appear. There's also the cat, Murr (Miyu Komaki). Not all have survived Season 1, though, so they won't necessarily appear in Part 2.

The English dub cast of the series includes Stephen Fu as Noe, Zeo Robinson as Vanitas, Marianne Bray as Murr, Ian Sinclair as Dante, and Hayden Daviau as Amelia.

What is the plot of The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2?

The grimoire in The Case Study of Vanitas

As the first part of the first season ended, the Beast of Gévaudan has resurfaced, so Noé and Vanitas go to investigate sightings of it. The beast will likely figure largely in the events of the second part of the season, as will Vanitas' relationship with Noé. Viewers may also finally learn the intentions of the secret organization Charlatan because of the big reveal in the end-credits scene. As viewers know, Ruthven figures largely in the plotting that's been going on, and he has hypnotized Noé with Jeanne's unwitting help, which could all blow up in Part 2. Meanwhile, Roland is going through a crisis of faith because he has learned that not all vampires are bad, and the show will no doubt explore the ramifications of that.

"The Case Study of Vanitas" will feature 12 episodes in Season 1 Part 2, making up a total of 24 episodes in the first season. The anime has been rapidly catching up to the manga:  Monsters and Critics predicts that by the 24th episode, the anime will be up to Chapter 43 of the manga. The manga is expected to publish Chapter 61, which means season 2 might be a more difficult sell than the first.

Jun Mochizuki Wiki

Faustina (ファウスティナ, Fausutina ) is a character from Jun Mochizuki 's The Case Study of Vanitas . She is the Queen ( 女王 ( じょおう ) , Joō ) of all Vampirekind , and thus all Vampires are instinctively compelled to submit to her. In recent times she has been reclusive, hardly ever seen in public, though the exact reasons remain a mystery. [1]

Icon murr transparent

Faustina is the first Vampire of the Crimson Moon to ever exist, having come into being immediately after the Babel Incident . She is currently out of commission and treated as functionally dead. The exact circumstances of how and why this had come to pass are as of yet uncertain, aside from the detail that the Queen's own Beastias had destroyed her corpse and believed her to be dead. [2]

However, Faustina is still active in the form of her Malnomen , Naenia , She Who Harbors Death ( 死を囲うもの ( ネーニア ) , Shi wo Kakou Mono ― Nēnia ). As Naenia, Faustina acts as a senseless creature which cares only about obtaining Vampires' True Names and corrupting them to spread Malnomen across the whole species. She does this under the command of the organization Charlatan , though once again the exact reasons why and circumstances of how are utterly unknown. It is only by way of intensively powerful interference with the World Formula can Faustina be restored to her true form. [3]
