A colleague of mine (also with a JD/PhD) got all rejections his first attempt even with several publications and practice experience. He got an offer the second year though! Probably not. I have a JD and am currently working on a PhD. It's because I am pivoting to political science academia. A JD is really expensive.

It's really the opposite of getting an MD PhD because you can use an MD PhD in the same career but MD JD is two different careers and you'll need to pick one.
