Included below is a short list of some of the most popular presentation apps currently available. The best presentation apps for iphone and ipad.

In the wake of the demise of Symbian phones, the near death of BlackBerry and the expensive failure called Windows Phone, there are two obvious mobile OS competitors still standing: Android and iOS. As smartphones, tablets and phablets invade the mobile market, it is only a matter of time before desktop operating systems face the prospect of extinction, unless they somehow evolve. In the wake of this shift, it is necessary for presenters to gear up for things to come.

In a previous post we brought you our list of the best presentation apps for Android . This time we have compiled a similar list for iOS devices. The presentation apps listed below are a combination of applications meant to help presenters create, edit, view, present and remotely control presentations using iDevices.

1) P owerPoint

Maybe it’s my bias being a PC guy or maybe because Apple is too high and mighty to let Keynote evolve with better cross-platform compatibility. Either way, PowerPoint for iOS is number one in our list of the best presentation apps for iPhone and iPad.

Many end users have complained about the need for an Office 365 subscription that is required to use PowerPoint for iOS, considering there have been a plethora of free apps providing PowerPoint support on iDevices even before this app was launched.

However, like all good things in life, it is only natural that PowerPoint for iDevices isn’t exactly free. While you can get the app for free via the App Store and create or edit documents by signing in with a free Microsoft account, to make the app really worth using, you would need to log in using an Office 365 account .

PowerPoint for iOS brings the famous desktop presentation to iDevices with support for charts, tables, SmartArt Graphics, animations, transitions, speaker notes, etc. Furthermore, like the desktop editions of PowerPoint 2013 and 2016, PowerPoint for iOS also provides a built-in laser pointer, pen and highlighter. Other options include integration with OneDrive, Dropbox & SharePoint.

With PowerPoint for iOS you not only get all great features of the desktop edition of PowerPoint but you can also wirelessly project a presentation using AirPlay, as well as control your slides using an Apple Watch.

Since PowerPoint is available for a wide variety of platforms like Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, and provides cloud based variants in the form of PowerPoint Online and Office 365, it is much easier to use PowerPoint files for presentations. In fact, many third-party services and apps like Google Drive, SlideShark and WPS Office also provide support for PowerPoint files.

However, it is safe to say that native PowerPoint support on iDevices from the official PowerPoint app by Microsoft is the best option for creating, editing and viewing presentations on an iPhone or iPad device.

When it comes to making quality presentations, Keynote is an app that cannot be ignored. While there is no real way of using Keynote on a PC or Android device, it is one of the most commonly used presentation apps for Apple users.

For those who have never used Keynote, it gives a plethora of PowerPoint like features for making presentations using readymade themes, with support for adding charts, tables, shapes, etc. Like PowerPoint, Keynote has also added collaboration features (currently going through the beta stage).

Just like OneDrive for PowerPoint, Keynote too provides cloud integration using iCloud. By all means, Keynote is a powerful presentation and there is no shortage of third-party templates which come with some extraordinary graphics and attention grabbing themes.

Other than Apple devices, the iCloud web app allows creating and editing presentations using an internet browser. This unfortunately is the only option for using Keynote other than on an Apple device. This restricts the scope for using Keynote files for presentations and since we live in a PC world, cross-platform compatibility is still a major hurdle for Keynote users.

That said, Keynote is still one of the best presentation apps for presenters and this is why it’s number 2 on our list for recommended presentation apps for presenters using iPhone & iPad devices.

3) Google Slides

While Google Slides isn’t the kind of app which provides killer features, it is decent enough to get the job done. Google Slides provide support for PowerPoint files and this app by Google has come a long way since Google Drive apps were rebranded a few years back.

If you’re looking for a decent iOS app which is free to use and can help you create, edit and view presentations from popular formats (e.g. PowerPoint & PDF presentations), then Google Slides isn’t a bad option. Lately, Google Slides templates have improved in quality and third-party template providers for this underrated platform have also begun providing high-quality templates . While Google Slides lags far behind PowerPoint, as we discussed in our comparison of Google Slides Vs PowerPoint , this poor man’s PowerPoint still deserves a bit of love.

4) Adobe Spark Video

Adobe is known to produce high-quality applications. Ranging from its high-end apps like PhotoShop, Premiere Pro to the free Adobe Reader that millions of users use to view PDF files; Adobe is a name tied to quality apps. Adobe Spark Video is a little known presentation app that can help you create studio quality video presentations.

Unlike most low-end or mid-ranged Android devices, iPhone and iPad devices tend to be more efficient in offering the kind of hardware which can help record better quality videos. This is perhaps the reason apps like Adobe Spark are usually not available for Android. While an Adobe Spark offering for Android is currently in development, it is likely that it might only work with high-end devices. The point is that iDevices have the kind of hardware that gives an edge in making video presentations. You might make such a presentation or video clip by interviewing people on the streets or by capturing an extraordinary event on your mobile device. Such video clips can add a powerful touch to your presentations and enable you to reach out at a very personal level to win hearts and minds.

Coming to Adobe Spark features; you can create videos with a voice-over using an iDevice, add a soundtrack and let the app do its magic. You can choose from an archive of more than 25,000 images and icons for your visual stories and let Adobe Spark automatically render your videos with cinematic animations to give your video presentations and clips a professional look. You can also choose between various themes, fonts and upload videos online.

5) HaikuDeck

HaikuDeck can be used for making attractive presentation decks via iPhone, iPad or web. You can begin making presentations on an iDevice by logging in using your HaikuDeck account, pick a template and start making slides using all major features you would expect in a good presentation app.

What makes HaikuDeck worth using are the very attractive graphics, availability of a plethora of images, a wide range of useful layouts and the ability to publish your slides online. HaikuDeck is not just a presentation maker but also an app you can use to present presentations in fullscreen mode on iOS devices. Needless to say, you can connect your iDevice to a projector to use HaikuDeck just like Keynote or PowerPoint to present professional presentations.

HaikuDeck has a free and a paid version, with the utility to opt for in-app purchases. But that’s not a bad thing. The high-quality graphics and imagery in premium content (e.g. premium templates) are worth the cost.

6) SlideIdea

SlideIdea is the kind of unique app that can help presenters make their presentations more attention grabbing. The app supports three formats, i.e. PDF, PowerPoint and the app’s very own SLD format. The app comes integrated with OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, Box & KingSoft Cloud to help you instantly import an existing slide deck for remodeling.

You can either import a slide deck or make one from scratch using some very attractive templates offered by SlideIdea. The editing features are similar to PowerPoint and Keynote, with a vast library of slide elements, support for whiteboard, animations and some handy transitions to switch your slides in style. Furthermore, you can add audio recording and video clips to create Slidecasts, as well as engage your audience using online polls.

SlideIdea is only available for iPad and works with devices running iOS 5.0 or above.

7) Prezi Viewer

It is sad to see that Prezi only has a Prezi Viewer for iDevices. Like its Android counterpart, this app is good for viewing and presenting Prezis. Since you can’t make Prezis on iDevices using an app, Prezi Viewer is only useful for presenters looking to use their iDevices for presenting Prezis.

8. SlideShark

Back in the day, SlideShark was one of the top presentation apps for iOS. However, since the advent for PowerPoint for iOS, its importance has arguably diminished. SlideShark is another app that can be used for viewing and presenting presentations. SlideShark supports uploading, viewing, presenting and sharing PowerPoint presentations while retaining original fonts, animations, colors and graphics. Moreover, there are a number of handy annotation features that can help you annotate slides during a Live presentation.

SlideShark also gives the utility to broadcast presentations online to share them with your audience during a Live presentation. The premium edition of SlideShark also supports PDF files.

9. MyPoint PowerPoint Remote

This is a simple app for remotely controlling PowerPoint slides running on a PC or Mac computer. You will need to install the connector app for your computer, as well as the iOS app for MyPoint PowerPoint Remote on your iDevice.

You can start your SlideShow directly from an iDevice remotely and instantly begin controlling your slides. The app has some advanced premium features that you can opt for, these include annotation tools like a pointer and marker, as well as a timer to time, rehearse and see the elapsed time for your slides.

10) Video Teleprompter

While iDevices have always had some good teleprompter apps, this one is as good as it gets. Video Teleprompter not only allows you to instantly turn your iPhone or iPad device into a teleprompter to read out a script but also enables recording video presentations.

The on-screen teleprompter can play your script and at the same time record your video using your iOS camera to enable you to create a video presentation or podcast.

Video Teleprompter provides good legibility for text that scrolls on your screen and makes it possible for you to face the camera while reading your script as if you are talking to your audience. Hence, it serves the dual purpose of acting as a teleprompter and video recording tool, which makes it perfect for making video presentations or video clips that you might want to include in your slides.

Unfortunately SlideShark is going out of business late fall 2018. That is unfortunate – it was the only 3rd party tool for iPads that rendered Powerpoint files correctly.

For the teams that use common cloud storage platforms like Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, Sharepoint etc to manage their files, I’d like to recommend https://CrescendoApp.com as a great and inexpensive alternative to large, complex and expensive platforms like Showpad.

From video-chatting with our loved ones when we are out of town, to popping virtual bubble wrap, there is an app for almost every imaginable need... including presenting.

Whether you're getting up in front of a class at your child’s next “ Bring-your-parent-to-school ” day or giving a TED Talk, there's an app that will help you get ready to take the stage.

Although none of the apps can get up on stage and do the presentation for you, the 21 tools we list in this article will help you practice and refine, getting you to the point where you can deliver great talks .

Apps for practicing

There is a fine line between over- and under-practicing your speech. Practice your talk until you know all your main points without hesitation, but still sound conversational and flexible. Below are 5 tools to help you practice your speech perfect.

Android | iOS

Most people use filler words like “um” and “ah” when they are speaking: however when on stage they can be very distracting to your audience. Download the Ummo app to get a handle on your “ums” and “ahs”. The app records your speech, then generates a transcript highlighting where you used filler words, so you can tackle omitting them from your future talks.

The next set of apps are teleprompters, varying prices, and functionality.

Teleprompter Apps

A teleprompter “prompts” you with a visual text of your presentation. It allows you to read the text word for word, ensuring a consistent and accurate speech, while maintaining the illusion of spontaneity.

Three tips for using a teleprompter:  

1. Run through: Although you don't need to memorize the entire script if you are reading the words for the first time while on stage, it will look obvious to your audience.  

Practice using the teleprompter in tandem with light memorization. Write, revise and rehearse your script until it sounds easy and conversational.  

2. Say it out-loud: Remember when you are practicing to speak out-loud: it will completely change your pace and help you decide which words in the sentence you need to emphasize, thing that are difficult to do when reading silently.  

Saying the words aloud will help you narrow in on any difficult pronunciations, something you don’t want to stumble over while on stage.  

3. Avoid ad-libbing: Try to stick to the script.  

When you start ad-libbing, you risk going over your time and are more likely to use filler words, or start becoming repetitive.  

If you intend to say it, write it into your script! Scripted presenters are more likely to monitor their pacing better, and their sessions are more likely to run on time.

2. iPrompt Pro

iPrompt Pro is one of the most intuitive teleprompting apps. It has a lot of options: from color choices to scrolling speeds. It also has in-app text editing and timing changes, which is ideal for making changes as you are practicing. Although there is some heavy advertising on the app (which can be quite tiresome) it is a low-cost, flexible app, which has a lot to offer.

3. Teleprompt +3

Teleprompt +3  is a simple and well-designed app that has incredible options that will help you practice your talk easily. The timer tools are very helpful for making sure your session runs on time, and tools like the audio and video recorder, rich text editor, and intuitive speed control helps you make your talk look and sound natural. This is one of the more expensive apps: but if you are looking for a tool that will go above and beyond your expectations for a teleprompter: this is it.

Teleprompter Pro (both Lite and Premium) are very responsive and easy to use. You can type in or import your talk, then select your font, text size, and pace. The app continuously highlights where you are in the script, so you won’t get lost. You can share your scripts on all of your devices: ideal for setting up your backup solutions. You can export .prompt files using AirDrop or email. The pro version also has a video recording function, which is perfect for watching your practices and making improvements.

Pace and Timing Apps

Timing can make or break a performance : as anyone who has sat in a session which has run 20 minutes knows.

These next apps will help you manage your timing and pacing: from getting a good speaking rhythm down to countdown clocks: helping you simultaneously go with the flow and stay on time. 

Normal conversational speech ranges between approximately 120-200 words per minute, and listening to someone speak outside of this range can be difficult.

For example, an auctioneer can speak upwards of 400 words per minute: but listening to you speak for 20 minutes in this range will befuddle and irritate your audience. On the other hand, speaking at less than 110 wpm can make your talk inch by for your audience, and they will most likely get bored.

Speech rate guidelines:

• Slow: less than 110 wpm
• Conversational: between 110 wpm and 160 wpm.
• Fast: more than 160 wpm
• Radio hosts and podcasters speak at 150-160 wpm.
• Auctioneers and commentators speak between 250 to 400 wpm.

Using a metronome can help you set your pace. Don’t forget to vary your pace: keeping it too even will sound monotonous, so play around with your pacing until it is in the right range while still sounding natural.

6.   Metronome Beats  

Metronome Beats has easy-to-use controls for increasing and decreasing the tempo in small increments. The visual beat indicators help you to keep track, and it is very easy to mute the metronome while visually monitoring your tempo.

7. Pro Metronome

Pro Metronome was created for all kinds of stage performers to improve their rhythm (think: musicians) but it is a fantastic app for public speakers who are working on their pacing. This app has a variety of ways to keep your tempo, from tempo screen color changes to vibrations and sounds.

Timers and Clocks

Being able to keep your talk on time is crucial: it keeps you from waffling on, and ensures that the whole event runs in a timely matter: but sometimes you lose track of how long you’ve been on stage.

Having a timer will help you keep your presentation flowing and on-time.

8. Amber Light Speech Timer

Modelled after a traffic light, to help you figure out where you are in your talk and how long you have left to hit your point home.  The green light displays when you are in the intro and body of your talk, the yellow for when you are getting close to the end and need to wrap it up, and red for when your time is up. The app is easy to use and allows you to custom set your time frames and change the alarm to a vibration if you are keeping it in your pocket onstage.

9. Toastmaster Timer

Originally designed for those who play the “Timer” in Toastmaster’s meetings, (the individual who signals to the speaker when it is time to wrap it up and finish) it is a superb free option for practicing with. The timer is simple to use, and has been designed specifically for speakers. It uses the traffic light system, but has slightly less customizable options.

10.  SpeakerClock

The SpeakerClock was inspired by the famous countdown clock that is used at the TED conferences.The LED-style countdown clock is easy to see, even at a distance so you are free to move around on stage. This app has a great design, and also includes a traffic light style feature that alerts you when it is time to get to the conclusion of your presentation.

While the above apps very practically help you get ready to be on stage, they don’t really address one of the hardest parts about speaking: stage fright .

Where a little bit of nervousness is normal, being wracked with anxiety can have detrimental effects and potentially ruin your talk.

These next few apps will help you manage your stress levels, and bring your heart level back down, making sure you get your message out clearly and confidently.

11. Confident Public Speaking Now

This app is part guided meditation, part stress-relief training. It offers meditation-style hypnosis sessions, like “Relax Completely” and “Total Relaxation in 10 minutes”, while also offering video interviews on what causes, and how to deal with, stress. It will ideally teach you how to enjoy the small dose of stress, and give you some tools on how to deal with anxiety effectively.

12.  Public Speaking by HiveBrain

Sometimes, all you need is some soothing, confidence-boosting words to get you in the right head space. Dr. Andrew Johnson's guided meditation/self-hypnosis program will help you relax and minimize the anxiety of speaking in front of crowds.

13. VirtualSpeech's Public Speaking

One of the most interesting new apps for public speakers helps you by putting you on a virtual stage. Upload your presentation, then practice in front of a fake interactive audience. The app requires a virtual headset, but its 3D, realistic looking scenario can be very helpful in getting a handle on being in front of a group.

Even if you only incorporate a few of these features into your next presentation, you’ll be miles ahead of the one-direction presenters.

BuzzMaster takes the ideal of polling to the next level, and is perfect if you’d like to engage your audience in a more three-dimensional debate about a topic. How to Set Up a Presentation Using Your iPhone or iPad

These days, we’re more reliant than ever on mobile devices for productivity and connectivity, even in work scenarios like conferences and seminars. It’s easy and convenient to power your presentations with an iPhone or iPad, but you might not know how to connect to an external display.

We’ll explain how to mirror a small screen to a more prominent display such as a smart TV, projector or monitor, whether you’re prepping for a presentation in a smart office or streaming content at home.

How to give presentations from your iPhone or iPad

Bring your mobile presentation to life by connecting your iOS device to an external display. Several technologies can power mobile presentations on a larger screen, including AirPlay, which allows streaming and screen mirroring.

We’ll explain how sending your presentation to an external display works for the most common devices you’ll encounter.

1. Send an iOS presentation to an Apple TV.

Mirroring your presentation from an iPad or iPhone to an Apple TV is straightforward. Here’s how it works:

• Power on your Apple TV. Make sure it’s on the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device.
• On your iOS device, load the presentation or content you want to share to the Apple TV.
• Tap the AirPlay icon . (It looks like a rectangular screen with a triangle at the bottom.)
• Choose your Apple TV .
• Your content will begin. To stop streaming, tap the AirPlay icon in the app you’re streaming from.

Consider accepting Apple Pay as a payment source for your business. Apple Pay is a mobile payment method that customers like using and often cite as their ideal payment method.

2. Send an iOS presentation to a smart TV.

If you have an internet-enabled smart TV, you have a few options, depending on your TV model.

AirPlay 2-compatible smart TVs

If you have an AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV, such as select Samsung models, LG TVs and Roku TVs, the process is nearly the same as using AirPlay with an Apple TV:

• On your AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV, go to Settings > General > Apple AirPlay Settings and enable AirPlay .
• Tap the AirPlay icon .
• Select your AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.
• Play your presentation or content.

Smart TVs that aren’t AirPlay 2-compatible

If your internet-connected smart TV isn’t AirPlay compatible, consider a third-party mirroring app like AllCast. AllCast is an iOS app that wirelessly streams your phone’s content to an external monitor. Here’s how it works:

• Download AllCast from the App Store on your iOS device.
• Launch AllCast and tap the broadcast icon . It will find compatible devices on your network.
• Select your smart TV.

AllCast is also compatible with Roku devices, Amazon Fire TV devices, Apple TV, Microsoft Xbox consoles, and smart TVs from Samsung, Sony, Panasonic and more. While AllCast is free to download and use, in-app purchases allow you to remove ads and unlock features.

3. Send an iOS presentation to a Mac.

If you want to send your iOS presentation to a larger Mac, the process is simple.

• Make sure your iOS device and Mac are on the same Wi-Fi network.
• On your iOS device, open the Control Center.
• Tap Screen Mirroring .
• Select your Mac.
• You may see an AirPlay passcode on your Mac screen. If so, enter the code on your iOS device.

4. Send an iOS presentation to a non-smart TV or projector.

Working with an old-school TV or a projector that doesn’t connect to the internet? Not a problem. Use a connector or adapter to achieve the same effect as mirroring.

Connect to a monitor with an adapter.

If you have access to a monitor and you don’t want to connect wirelessly, opt for an old-fashioned cable adapter. Apple sells a Lightning digital AV adapter with an additional power port (so you can charge your iPhone or iPad while you present from it).

At $49, Apple’s adapter is pricey for a one-off presentation, but if you travel a lot, the purchase could be worthwhile. Using Wi-Fi across various venues can be a gamble. If you’re presenting to clients, you may not want to roll the dice.

Connect to a projector with an adapter.

Many modern projectors have proprietary apps to connect to wirelessly from mobile devices, but they vary drastically in quality, availability and compatibility. If you want to be certain of your ability to connect to a specific projector, an adapter is an excellent option.

Newer projectors typically have HDMI and VGA ports. If you have a choice, opt for an HDMI adapter because it’ll be more versatile. If you need to connect to an older projector, you will probably have to connect using a VGA adapter; Apple sells one (also priced at $49) with an added charging port, so you don’t run out of juice.

There is almost always a way to connect an iPad or iPhone to an external display, though it might involve Apple-branded hardware or a stand-alone app.

Can you screen mirror without Wi-Fi?

The only way to screen mirror without Wi-Fi is to use a cable connection or adapter. Screen mirroring apps won’t work if you can’t access Wi-Fi. In fact, if you’re using a screen mirroring app, the device you’re mirroring from and the device you’re mirroring to have to be on the same Wi-Fi network.

There are many excellent presentation tools for all platforms. Keynote  is Apple’s answer to PowerPoint, and it’s a go-to among professionals who use Apple devices because it’s a free download from the App Store. You can also use PowerPoint on Apple devices via the PowerPoint mobile app. If you want to try something different,  Google Slides  is the current black horse in the presentation software arena, and it’s also available through Apple’s App Store.

iPad business uses include remote desktop access, on-the-go presentations and access to Microsoft Office mobile apps.

Do I need an adapter to connect my iPad to my TV?

If you have Apple mobile devices and want to share content with a broader audience, an adapter is an excellent option. An adapter’s main advantage is allowing you to connect to nearly any external monitor. Adapters are helpful for people who want to mirror to an older TV or monitor without internet connectivity, as well as anyone who frequently hosts presentations in places without open Wi-Fi networks or smart monitors.

Can you screen mirror with an Android device?

Yes. Android and iOS both support business uses , such as screen mirroring for presentations. You can mirror your Android, PC or Google device on an external screen or projector with a built-in app, Bluetooth, a third-party app or an HDMI adapter. If you go down the app and Bluetooth route, ensure that your mobile device and the external monitor are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

If you’re playing a presentation on your iPad, you can control the presentation using your iPhone (or its companion Watch), or another iPad as a remote control.

Important: To use an iPhone or iPad with iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 as a remote, Keynote needs permission to connect to other devices on your local network. Go to Settings > Privacy > Local Network, then turn on Keynote.

Set up iPad as a remote control for a presentation on a Mac

The Mac and the iPad need to have Keynote installed and have Wi-Fi turned on.

Open Keynote on the iPad that you want to use as a remote.

The device displays the Set Up Remote screen.

Note: Tap OK if you’re asked to allow Keynote to find and connect to devices on your local network.

Open Keynote on the Mac, then choose Keynote > Settings (or Preferences in macOS 12 or earlier) from the Keynote menu at the top of your screen.

If you followed the directions in the introduction to this task, Keynote appears whenever you raise your wrist to control the presentation from Apple Watch.

People ask me every day whether it’s okay to use artificial intelligence to write a speech or presentation. The answer, like most communication itself, is not black and white but rather filled with nuance and dependent on context. Here are some of the most critical pros and cons to consider.

• AI can help you organize your thoughts into a coherent structure using effective speechwriting models. This gives you a solid framework for your speech. Many people have a hard time organizing their thoughts into the right structure with the necessary arcs, but AI will do that automatically. This certainly doesn’t guarantee a great speech, but it’s a start.

• It’s clear. AI does a good job of providing key points that are easy to follow, and it doesn’t meander or get lost in the details. Not to mention the fact that AI has very good grammar and syntax.

• Because AI is so quick, you can input multiple prompts with slight variations. This gives you several results to choose from, or you can even mix and match.

• AI doesn’t know how to relate to your audience like you do or how to tailor your speech to their mindset. You can describe the audience in your prompt, but AI won’t necessarily know their specific desires and concerns—it can’t get into their heads. And it is often oblivious to the cultural context or zeitgeist of the time. Without this understanding, a speech cannot inspire. Any good speech moves both hearts and minds, and since AI cannot manage the nuance of human emotions, you will often need to personalize the entire speech and make sure it conveys your true intention.

• AI-generated content can be detected. This can be done through AI content detectors or by someone simply inputting various prompts into a generative AI tool and comparing the results to your remarks. The last thing you want to do is attach your name to something important only for people to find out it was from Gemini or ChatGPT. That can damage your credibility well into the future. Remember, audiences pride themselves on having good authenticity meters.

• The strategy of the presentation may have flaws. In addition to composition mistakes (e.g., redundant words and sentences) or inaccurate information, AI can omit key ideas or approaches, leaving gaping holes in the case you are building. So you’ll need to double-check the progression of the speech. Once you’ve done that, check it again.

How AI Affects Your Delivery

When you take an active role in writing a speech, you own it. There is a neurological process that embeds the words and phrases of the presentation into your brain as you write or type. That means the words stay with you to a certain extent. When a speech is written for you—either by AI or another human—you skip that step, which can make it harder to deliver unless you add extra rehearsal time.

A colleague in the tech industry once tried an experiment with an AI speech delivery coaching program: First, he recorded a presentation as he would normally deliver it—in a conversational tone. He then recorded another version after getting coaching from the AI program. It gave him solid, common-sense feedback on pacing, tone and body language, but the words remained exactly the same.

He then asked 30 co-workers to rate both performances on perceived authenticity, engagement, value and overall effectiveness. The recording coached by AI scored 16% lower. Why? It was stilted. The feedback metrics used by AI are generic—valid in some cases, but not a good fit for every speaker or every audience.

After all, AI still cannot talk like humans. So expecting it to coach us on speaking effectively is like expecting a world-class cyclist to improve their performance while using training wheels.

On the other hand, if you get feedback from a trusted colleague or good speaking coach, you can discuss audience needs, expectations and how they might receive your presentation. And you can make sure the presentation looks and feels authentically you.

In the final analysis, remember that communication serves to connect people on the most human level. This can be aided by AI, but cannot be accomplished by AI alone (at least not yet). No technology to date can replace the depth or subtle aspects of shared human experience.

So use AI to brainstorm and get a jump-start on your project. Then add the most important ingredient: human intelligence.

How to Watch the 'Let Loose' Apple Event on Tuesday, May 7

Apple will hold its first media event of 2024 on Tuesday, May 7, at 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time through a live stream. Titled "Let Loose," the event is expected to see the unveiling of new iPad Air and iPad Pro models, along with updated Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard accessories.

With the Apple Events website , you can watch the event live on a Mac, iPhone , iPad , PC, or any other device with a web browser. The Apple Events website works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and other main browsers.

Apple also plans to stream the event live on YouTube, which is perhaps the easiest and most efficient way to watch because the YouTube live stream can be viewed on every platform where YouTube is available, which is pretty much all platforms, from smartphones and tablets to consoles and smart TVs.

Apple TV App

Apple used to have a dedicated Apple Events app on the Apple TV , but ahead of WWDC in June 2020, it folded into the Apple TV app . On event day, there will be a prominent ‌Apple TV‌ app section dedicated to the live stream, which can be watched on any device where the ‌Apple TV‌ app is available.

This includes the ‌Apple TV‌, iPhones, iPads, Macs, and some smart TVs. If you have an ‌Apple TV‌, the ‌Apple TV‌ app is one of the best ways to watch the event live. Apple hasn't updated the ‌Apple TV‌ app with the new event as of yet, but it should be added soon.

Apple iPad event 2024: Watch Apple unveil new iPads right here

We’re still well over a month out from WWDC , but Apple went ahead and snuck in another event . Today, at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET , the company is set to unveil the latest additions to the iPad line. According to the rumor mill , that list includes: a new iPad Pro, iPad Air, Apple Pencil and a keyboard case.

More surprisingly, the event may also see the launch of the new M4 chip , a little over six months after the company unveiled three new M3 chips in one fell swoop. Why the quick silicon refresh? Well, for starters, word on the street is that Apple launched the M3 later than expected (likely owing to supply chain issues), forcing the company to launch all three chips at the same event.

Couple that with the fact that Microsoft is rumored to be launching its own third-party silicon at Build at the end of May, and you start to understand why the company opted not to wait. An announcement may be even more pressing, given that the Microsoft/ARM chips are said to offer “industry-leading performance” — an apparent shot across Apple’s bow. Could a new chip also mean new Macs? That would be a short refresh cycle for the current crop, but it’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

What does seem certain, however, is a new iPad Pro with an OLED display, a 12.9-inch iPad Air and new gestures for the Apple Pencil. Also, expect plenty of AI chatter. It’s 2024, after all. You can watch along live at the link below, and stay tuned to TechCrunch for news as it breaks.

Apple’s iPad Event on Tuesday Will Be Shorter Than You Think: Report

This week Apple plans to hold its “Let Loose” iPad event on Tuesday, set to start at 7am PDT/10am EDT. 

For those expecting a long presentation, don’t count on it, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on Sunday. He says the iPad presentation is “expected to be about 35 minutes,” suggesting we won’t be seeing significant game-changing upgrades.

Apple’s iPad line has been confusing with too many options, and now it looks like the company plans on simplifying the lineup over the next year. Dear Apple–when will you also make iPadOS actually useful like macOS?

After Tuesday’s unveiling, the iPad lineup will consist of the following:

• iPad 9 with 10.2-inch screen and a home button.
• iPad 10 with a 10.9-inch screen 
• iPad mini 6 with 8.3-inch screen
• iPad Air in 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes with M2 chips (NEW)
• iPad Pro in 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, with M4 chips (NEW)

A new Magic Keyboard is expected for the iPad Pro, along with a new generation of Apple Pencil with haptic feedback and a squeeze gesture.

Gurman says by 2025, Apple will continue to simplify the iPad line by eliminating the iPad 9 with a more affordable 10.9-inch version, while the iPad mini will gain a chip upgrade.

iOS 18 could finally overhaul some of the iPhone's most used apps

• iOS 18 will reportedly upgrade the iPhone’s built-in Fitness, Notes, Mail, Photos, and Calculator apps.
• While a complete OS overhaul is unlikely, iOS 18 could still offer some design tweaks across the system.
• Apple will preview iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, and watchOS 11 on June 10 during its main WWDC24 keynote.

iOS 18 may introduce some notable upgrades across Apple’s Notes, Mail, Photos, Fitness, and Calculator apps. While the Bloomberg report sharing this rumor doesn’t mention the specifics of these upgrades, we expect these apps to offer more features and refreshed designs.

Apple doesn’t update its primary iPhone applications through the App Store at all. Instead, it restricts their new offerings, bug fixes, and other changes to iOS updates. Typically, with every major OS release, the Cupertino firm overhauls a few of its apps — and the case with iOS 18 should be the same.

A previous rumor claims that Apple plans to add more advanced features to its Calculator app and bring it to iPadOS 18. It also mentions that the company will integrate it into the Notes app with these upcoming OS releases. This gives us a glimpse of what the Notes and Calculator app overhauls in iOS 18 could be about.

Otherwise, the Home Screen on iOS 18 is expected to receive a welcome facelift. This would allow iPhone users to place app icons anywhere on the grid for the first time. Apple could also be switching to modular in-app design elements to simplify updating their UIs in the future. Nevertheless, a complete system redesign is unlikely to happen this year.

iOS 18 is expected to be one of the most significant software updates in the iPhone’s history. Apple will preview it, along with iPadOS 18, macOS 15, and watchOS 11, during WWDC24 on June 10. Interested users should also be able to install the first developer betas of these operating systems on that day.
