The Navodaya Vidyalaya System is a unique experiment unparalleled in the annals of school education in India and elsewhere. Its significance lies in the selection of talented rural children as the target group and the attempt to provide them with equality education comparable to the best in a residential school system. Such children are found in all sections of society, and in all areas including the most backward. These talented children otherwise would have been deprived of quality modern education traditional

ly available only in the urban areas. Such education would enable students from rural areas to compete with their urban counterparts on an equal footing. traditional artists. o Built-in-mechanism of self-reliance, self-evaluation, character, rigorous and discipline in academic pursuit. o Schools are developed as the speedy and efficient institutions.

• Keeping the same educational standard throughout the Nation and raising this standard to the world standard. • Giving teachers full freedom to improve the teaching methods. • Those children, who are from villages and are backward in social and economical conditions, are provided with developmental opportunities. • Adopting innovative methods to improve the standard of education • Sharing the HR and MR with other institutions and introducing new ideas new trials and new tests. • Adopting three language formula

This word means: Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

A navodaya vidyalaya starts from class vi and goes up to xii. admissions in class vi are through a merit test, and less than 3% of the candidates every year make the cut..

This word means: Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, or JNVs, were envisaged as pace-setting schools for talented rural children in the National Policy on Education, 1986, and set up immediately after. The Finance Ministry recently cleared a proposal to hire counsellors for JNVs in rural areas in the wake of a number of suicides (The Indian Express, January 27).

According to norms, at least 75% of the seats in each JNV are set aside for rural children. Hence, a JNV is never sanctioned for a district with a 100% urban population. That apart, seats are reserved for children from SC and ST communities in proportion to their population in the district where the school is located but is not to be less than the national average, which is 15% for SCs and 7.5% for STs.

A Navodaya Vidyalaya starts from Class VI and goes up to XII. Admissions in Class VI are through a merit test, and less than 3% of the candidates every year make the cut. Currently, there are 635 JNVs in the country with 2.8 lakh students, all managed and run by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, which is an autonomous body under the HRD Ministry.

Known for producing the best results in board examinations, these schools have consistently recorded a pass rate over 99% in Class X and over 95% in XII, which is far better than private schools and CBSE’s national average.

Navodaya system in Indian education

Navodaya system in indian education.

Navodaya Vidyalayas play a crucial part of the national mission to ensure that education is available to each and every student irrespective of their caste, creed and background. In fact these Vidyalayas prepare the students to face the world of competition with excellence along with the qualities of love, friendship, kindness and compassion.

One of the unique features of Navodaya Vidyalayas is the residential education, just like the old days Gurukula system. Here the students get immense opportunity to nurture and showcase their varied talents under the guidance and support of affectionate and gifted teachers. It not only helps the students to progress in their academics, but also in their physical and moral well being. The Navodaya Vidyalayas keep in mind the vision, " the nation of tomorrow sprouts out in the school today, and on the knowledge that the students are acquiring, on the character that they are building, on the values that they are inculcating, depends the development of the India of new era. This education system ,in a way, have a noble role in moulding the true future citizens of our mother India.

These Vidyalayas have excellent facilities of libraries and lab facilities which will give the students, a wonderful hands on experience. Laboratory facilities for biology , chemistry, physics and mathematics provide the students , an opportunity to explore and expand their knowledge sphere. Also pace setting activities are conducted in the Vidyalayas which will help the neighboring schools to have real experience with the activities of the school. Also different competitions are conducted for the students from the neighboring schools. Along with the physical training periods in the morning and the games hours in the evening, there are physical education classes which will help the students to have knowledge about how to keep themselves physically and mentally fit. Yoga classes, scouts and guides, NCC activities are conducted with full enthusiasm. Different creative clubs are formed like arts club, English club which will help the students from poor background to enhance their talents. Special coaching are provided for the talented students.

Students themselves organise the programmes of the Vidyalaya and make them grand and unforgettable. The students learn the qualities of team spirit and cooperation. Students have well qualified teachers living with them so that they clarify their doubts and they can excel in their studies. Even though the students have their own difficulties, they learn to adjust with those and come out with excellent ideas which shows the creativity of the students. The adjusting mentality of the students can be seen in Navodaya Vidyalayas. People may say that a Navodayan is brought up within the four walls of a campus, but it is life- that a beautiful butterfly comes out of the pupa after tremendous struggle for many days. within those four walls. Each Navodayan dreams of a better future that they can make through the talents they have acquired from Navodayas.

JNV vs Sainik Schools: When it comes to providing quality education and holistic development for students in India, both Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) and Sainik Schools stand out as top choices. While JNVs focus on nurturing talented students from rural areas, Sainik Schools aim to prepare students for a career in defence services.

As a parent or student, choosing between these prestigious institutions can be a challenging decision. In this blog post, we’ll provide a detailed comparison of JNVs and Sainik Schools, covering aspects such as objectives, curriculum, admission process, and facilities to help you make an informed decision.

Objectives: JNV vs Sainik Schools

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs): Established by the Government of India, JNVs focus on identifying and nurturing the potential of talented students from rural areas. These schools provide quality education, promote national integration, and strive for all-round development of students. JNVs aim to bridge the gap between rural and urban education by offering equal opportunities to children from underprivileged backgrounds.

Sainik Schools: Sainik Schools were established by the Ministry of Defence to prepare students for a career in the defence services, primarily the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA). These schools emphasise discipline, leadership, and patriotism, instilling a strong sense of duty and service towards the nation.

Curriculum:

JNVs: Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas follow the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum from Class 6 to 12. The curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation in academics while also encouraging students to participate in extracurricular activities, sports, and cultural programs.

Sainik Schools: Like JNVs, Sainik Schools also follow the CBSE curriculum from Class 6 to 12. In addition to academics, Sainik Schools place a strong emphasis on physical fitness, discipline, and military training. Students are also encouraged to participate in various extracurricular activities and sports.

Admission Process: JNV vs Sainik Schools

JNVs: Admission to JNVs is primarily through the JNV Selection Test (JNVST), a highly competitive entrance exam conducted for Class 6 admissions. For Class 9, students need to appear for a separate entrance test. The admission process focuses on providing equal opportunities to students from rural areas and follows a reservation policy for various categories.

Sainik Schools: Admission to Sainik Schools is through the All India Sainik School Entrance Examination (AISSEE), conducted for Class 6 and Class 9 admissions. The entrance exam evaluates students’ knowledge of English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. Sainik Schools also follow a reservation policy for various categories, with a specific percentage of seats reserved for children of defence personnel.

Facilities:

JNVs: Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are residential schools providing students with comfortable accommodations, nutritious meals, and state-of-the-art facilities. JNVs offer modern classrooms, well-equipped libraries, computer labs, and sports facilities. Additionally, JNVs provide free education, boarding, and lodging to all students.

Sainik Schools: Sainik Schools are also residential institutions, offering excellent accommodation, mess facilities, and modern infrastructure. These schools are equipped with spacious classrooms, libraries, computer labs, and sports facilities. Sainik Schools provide subsidised education, with scholarships available for deserving students.

Career Opportunities:

JNVs: JNV alumni have gone on to excel in various fields, such as engineering, medicine, civil services, and entrepreneurship. The strong academic foundation and all-round development provided by JNVs equip students to pursue a wide range of career paths and contribute significantly to society.

Sainik Schools: While Sainik Schools primarily prepare students for a career in defence services, alumni have also found success in other fields such as engineering, civil services, and corporate leadership. The discipline, patriotism, and leadership qualities instilled in students during their time at Sainik Schools make them well-rounded individuals capable of thriving in any career.

JNVs: Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas provide free education to all students. This includes not only tuition fees but also boarding, lodging, uniforms, textbooks, and other study materials. There are no charges for students enrolled in JNVs, making it an extremely affordable option for families from all socio-economic backgrounds.

Sainik Schools: While Sainik Schools are not free, they offer subsidised education, making them more affordable than many private institutions. The fees at Sainik Schools vary depending on the school and the student’s category.

The approximate annual fees range from INR 1,20,000 to INR 1,90,000. The fees cover tuition, boarding, lodging, uniforms, and other facilities. It is important to note that the fees are subject to change and may vary from one school to another.

Value for Money:

JNVs: Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas offer excellent value for money, as they provide high-quality education, boarding, and lodging at no cost to the students. The government-funded education ensures that students from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds can access the same opportunities as their urban counterparts without the burden of fees.

Sainik Schools: Although Sainik Schools charge fees, they still offer good value for money, considering the quality of education, infrastructure, and facilities provided. The focus on discipline, leadership, and patriotism, along with the strong academic foundation, makes Sainik Schools an excellent investment for families looking to prepare their children for a career in defence services or other competitive fields.

Both Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Sainik Schools offer exceptional educational opportunities and play a crucial role in shaping the future of India’s youth. The choice between these two prestigious institutions ultimately depends on your child’s interests, career goals, and personal preferences.

If your child is passionate about serving the nation and pursuing a career in defence services, Sainik Schools would be an ideal choice. The focus on discipline, physical fitness, and military training will prepare them for a successful career in the armed forces.

On the other hand, if your child is keen on exploring a diverse range of career opportunities and hails from a rural background, JNVs offer an excellent platform to nurture their talent and provide quality education for all-around development.

When comparing the two institutions based on fees, JNVs clearly stand out as the more affordable option, offering completely free education and boarding facilities. On the other hand, Sainik Schools, while not free, provide subsidised education and scholarship opportunities that can make them more affordable for many families.

In conclusion, both JNVs and Sainik Schools play a significant role in shaping India’s future leaders. By understanding the objectives, curriculum, admission process, fee structure and facilities of each institution, you can make an informed decision that aligns with your child’s aspirations and helps them achieve their full potential.

Stud Mentor - Where Learning Begins

What is Unique things about in Every Navodaya Student

What is unique about Navodaya students

I am Alumni of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. It was the best time in my life. I found our day to day life , Relationship with Friends, Seniors, Juniors, Teachers and other Non teaching staff , Mostly studies Etc are unique in some ways…by Ex Navodayan

1. Routine ( Day To Day Life)

Morning exercise/ games-assembly -class-breakfast-class-lunch-study time-evening games-night study-dinner-common prayer. this was our one day. This time table is the best and unique thing about Navodaya ,students will be fully engaged and efficient.

2. Relationship With Teachers

They cared for us in a parental kind of way(but they also did scold us and punish us for our evil crimes) They noticed when we become thin and they used to come and personally serve us during mess time. They even reminded us when our hair is messy or our uniforms were dirty. I think this kind of teacher student relations are very rare in other schools

3. Migration

Its another best thing about JNVs…Around 1/3rd of students of 9th Standard are send to another JNV.

Well we played together, eat together, slept together. prayed together, studied together …… for  7  years. Needless to say they are not friends they are like our family

5. Relationship with Juniors and seniors

Unlike other schools in JNVs not only the same batch students but juniors and seniors remain our best buddies even after Navodaya.

6. Attachment to the school

Being Navodayan is an emotion… Going back to Navodaya after several years feels like going back to home… I don’t know how many others have a nostalgic feeling like this to their old schools…
