After witnessing an explosive spat outside a sex club between his rich client Asher and Asher's wife Layla, Antonio drives Asher to a gas station to pick up some cigarettes. But when he returns to the SUV, Asher's dead from a gunshot to the head and a sack of diamonds is missing. It's a robbery gone sidewise, all on Antonio's off-duty watch. To make matters worse, turns out Asher had international priors for stealing diamonds. This means that, regardless of whether he finds the murderer, Antonio could lose his job and his pension because he worked for a known felon. Voight and Olinsky vow to protect Antonio - and spearhead the investigation.

Antonio ropes Roman into Intelligence in order to capitalize on his knowledge of Asher, then interviews Layla. Without expressing a drip of remorse, she denies any involvement in her husband's murder, despite Antonio's gut feeling that she orchestrated the whole thing. Lindsay finds a connection between Asher and a jittery jeweler named Wells, who later confesses that someone tried to unload Asher's diamonds. Security footage from the store reveals an image of the shady seller, but the footage proves worthless without an accurate ID. Could this guy be someone Layla met at the sex club?

Voight seizes the opportunity and instructs Halstead and Lindsay to pose as a couple and infiltrate the sex club. Once inside, they find a bartender who confirms that the man from the footage is a regular at the club named Terry - the same person Layla mentioned during the fight with Asher the night of his murder. The bartender also leads them to a jeweler who accepted the diamonds, but once Roman and Antonio interview him, he reveals the diamonds as fakes. With Antonio and Roman's urging, the jeweler sets up a meeting with Terry outside the Field Museum - except Terry pushes for an earlier time, leaving Antonio and Roman without backup. Terry pulls a gun when he spots Antonio and the two engage in a fistfight outside the museum. Antonio knocks him cold and they drag Terry into interrogation.

That is where Terry finds out Layla played him: he will take the rap for the murder and do the time, while she keeps the real diamonds. So where's Layla, anyway? Just so happens she asks for Antonio right outside District 21. Cool and in control, she hands Antonio all her records and assures him her only contact with Terry existed in the club. No paper trail, no evidence. Oh - and she cuts Antonio a check for his security services, her last move before leaving for Florida. Looks like she thought of everything.

But when Antonio returns to the office, looks like the Ivory Tower still wants his badge and gun while they launch an internal investigation - until Olinksy (under Voight's instructions) produces folders of reports that prove Antonio worked undercover and used Roman's security company as a front. Lucky for Antonio, the paperwork appears legit; he keeps his job. He holds back his emotions and thanks Olinsky and Voight for their help... but it's clear that no one will talk about this case ever again.

Chicago PD Show Summary

District 21 of the Chicago Police Department is made up of two distinctly different groups: The uniformed cops who patrol the beat and deal with street crimes, and the intelligence unit, the team that combats the city's major offenses, such as organized crime, drug trafficking and high-profile cuddles. Leading the intelligence team is Sgt. Hank Voight, a man not against skirting the law in the pursuit of justice. Demanding and tough, only those who can take the heat survive under Voight's command. Take Det. Antonio Dawson, for example. Despite a troubled history with his boss, Dawson has ambitions of running the unit. If that means facing off against Voight every day, he'll persevere. From the street cops with dreams of moving up to the elite crew who are already in, life on the job is a daily challenge.

Tonight’s episode begins now – Refresh Page for Updates

Tonight’s episode of Chicago PD kicks off with Antonio outside a restaurant arguing on the phone, Asher and his girlfriend come out arguing.  Asher tells Antonio to leave her there and they get in the car.  After some bickering, Antonio agrees to pull over and get Asher a pack of cigarettes.  He comes out of the gas station and gets in the car and realizes that someone has shot Asher in the head while he was in the store, he calls for an ambulance and back-up.  Hank arrives at the scene, and Antonio is upset he blames himself.  Hank reassures him that they will get it straightened out.

At the station Trudy corners Alvin because she knows he doesn’t have a place to stay.  She wants him to join the “Officer Next Door Program.”   It’s where cops move in to shady neighborhoods for practically free and it supposedly makes the neighborhood safe.

Antonio gets bad news at the police station.  Apparently Asher had prior in London for buying and selling stolen diamonds, and Asher wasn’t just fraternizing with a felon – he was working for him.  He learns that he could lose his badge and even his pension.  Antonio’s wife calls the station but he won’t take the call.

Roman shows up at work, and Antonio is furious with him since he hooked him up with Asher.  He wants to know how long he knew Asher and if he ran a background check on him.  Roman says he had no idea, and apologizes to him.  Antonio tells him he is on the case and he needs all his info on Asher, anything that could lead to his killer.

Asher’s husband Leila comes in and Antonio demands to know who Terry is, the guy they were arguing over at the club.  Leila says that she and Asher had a threesome with Terry, and lots of other guys.  Antonio wants to know why she isn’t upset over Ahser’s death – she explains that she didn’t have anything to do with his death and she was in the club where they left him.  She explains that the compartment in the SUV had over $3 Million worth of diamonds in it.  Antonio threatens her that if she had anything to do with Asher’s death he is going to “nail her.”   When Leila leaves Hank sends Atwater to follow her and tail her.

Olinsky is holed up in an office at the station trying to rewrite his paperwork on a typewriter to make it seem like he has been on the force longer than he has.  He sends Ruzek to pick up more forms for him to fudge.  Hank corners Roman and implies that he had something to do with Asher getting killed.  Hank asks him if he ever had sex with Asher’s wife Leila, and Roman insists he didn’t.

There were no cameras at the gas station, they have no prints, and no bullets.  Erin pulls up information on a jeweler named Roman Wells, he used to be in business with Asher.  Since they went their separate ways he has had four lawsuits and a restraining order against him.  Antonio and Owen head to Roman’s store and when they arrive he locks himself in a panic room.  He refuses to come out so Owen pays a tow-truck driver to attach his chain to the door and pull it off the wall.

Roman reveals to Antonio and Owen that a guy came in his shop earlier that day and was trying to sell him diamonds, he knew they were Asher’s because they were still in Asher’s carrying case.  He says he didn’t buy them because he knew they were stolen.  They get a crappy surveillance tape picture of the guy at the jewelry store trying to sell the stolen diamonds.

Atwater and Burgess are sitting in the car watching Leila, she comes out of the nail salon and gets in her limo and they follow her some more.  Erin and Jay decide to go undercover to the sex club that Leila and Asher used to go to.  Erin befriends the bartender and asks about Terry, but the bartender says he doesn’t work there anymore.  Erin convinces the bartender to go in a sex room with them, they reveal that they are cops and he confirms that the guy in the picture at the jewelry store is Terry.  Erin and Jay get a break and learn what jewelry store Terry is headed to so he can sell them.

Antonio heads to the jewelry store in the morning, and the jeweler reveals that the diamonds Terry brought in are fake – and worth $20.  Antonio tells him to set up a meeting with Terry and have him come in so they can pick him up.  Meanwhile, Burgess is still following Leila – but she receives a phone call and while she is talking she loses her.  Atwater and Burgess find her in a taxi and follow her, she runs in to a building and two police officers stop Burgess and Atwater and say they received a phone call from Leila saying someone was following her.  They clear up the misunderstanding and run in the building and learn that Leila already left out of the back.

Terry shows up at the jewelry store, and Roman and Antonio decide to take him down themselves.  Terry makes them while he is talking to the store owner in the park and pulls out a gun and starts shooting at them.  Antonio manages to take him down without getting shot and they bring him in to the station.

They bring Terry in for questioning and he insists that killing Asher was all Leila’s idea and after they got the diamonds they were supposed to run off together.  Antonio meets up with Leila, she reveals she is boarding a flight to leave the state and go to Florida in three hours unless they have a warrant for her arrest.  She hands over her phone records and credit card information to prove that she hasn’t had any contact with Terry, and she says that she had her manager cut him a check for his security detail the night that Asher was killed.

The internal investigator arrives and Alvin hands over a folder full of documents proving that Owen’s security company was all just a front for an undercover investigation – the investigator buys it hook, line, and sinker and after he leaves Antonio thanks Hank and Olinsky.

What Happened to Jon Seda's Beloved Chicago P.D. Detective Antonio Dawson?

The detective soared as the Intelligence Unit's cherished second-in-command from Season 1 until Season 6.

assignment of the year chicago pd cast

Where would  Chicago P.D. be without the endlessly dedicated Detective Antonio Dawson, played by the talented Jon Seda ?

How to Watch

Watch  Chicago P.D.  on NBC  and  Peacock .

Antonio was adored by Chi-Hards far and wide for his mind-boggling fighting skills and keen intellect, often detailing cases for the Intelligence Unit officers in the bullpen.

RELATED: Jon Seda Teases Antonio's Return to Chicago P.D.

And, he wasn't just a valued member of the CPD: He's also related to Chicago Fire 's Firehouse 51's Gabriela "Gabby" Dawson ( Monica Raymund ), leading to some fantastic One Chicago crossover moments.

Appearing in six seasons of Chicago P.D.,  dozens of episodes of Chicago Fire,  and even spearheading Chicago Justice,  Antonio secured One Chicago legend status.

Antonio Dawson on Chicago P.D. Episode 604

When did Antonio Dawson first appear on Chicago P.D. ?

Antonio joined Chicago P.D.'s  cast in the pilot ("Stepping Stone") as Intelligence Unit Sergeant Hank Voight 's ( Jason Beghe ) second-in-command.

He had previously in the Vice Squad before being recruited for the Intelligence Unit, and excelled at undercover work.

However, Antonio had already made his first on-screen appearance in the One Chicago universe in  Chicago Fire Season 1, Episode 3 ("Professional Courtesy"), in which the sergeant's son Justin Voight (Josh Segarra) got into a drunk driving accident that left a boy paralyzed. Antonio ended up running interference with the CFD members for his boss.

In the pilot of Chicago P.D. , he and his then-partner Julie "Jules" Willhite (Melissa Sagemiller) went after a crime boss, Adres "Pulpo" Diaz (Arturo Del Puerto). While in pursuit, Julie was tragically killed right in front of him.

The death of his partner set a haunting tone for the Intelligence Unit.

Antonio was an experienced fighter who ran the training gym for the unit, showing cops old and new the best hand-to-hand maneuvers . According to Voight, Antonio'd had a promising shot at boxing in the Olympics before his time in the CPD.

Antonio Dawson on Chicago P.D. Episode 101

Why did Antonio Dawson leave Chicago P.D. ?

Antonio's Season 6 departure was the culmination of a season-long storyline.

First, he severely injured his shoulder while pursuing a criminal in Season 6, Episode 3 ("Bad Boys"), and then began abusing painkillers while treating his injury. To satisfy his addiction, he began working with a drug dealer, offering him protection in exchange for pills. But after Antonio's plug got raided anyway, the man's cousin, Jason Rizzo (Sam Pearson), wanted revenge.

In Season 6, Episode 9 ("Descent"), Rizzo kidnapped Antonio's daughter Eva on her way home from college.

After tracking down Rizzo at an abandoned building, the man made lewd comments about Eva, and Antonio pushed him out a window in a drug-fueled rage. The murder was a shock to Voight, who instantly asked his second-in-command if he was on pills. After Antonio confessed he was, the sergeant and   Adam Ruzek   ( Patrick John Flueger ) decided it made the most sense for the latter to take responsibility for Rizzo's death, and Antonio was ordered to rehab.

After Antonio returned to the precinct in Season 6, Episode 11 ("Trust"), he regretted allowing Ruzek to take the heat for his actions.

RELATED: When Does Antonio Leave Chicago P.D. ?

Internal Affairs opened an investigation into Rizzo's death in Season 6, Episode 21 ("Confession"), and Antonio's shame intensified as the evidence against him grew while Ruzek maintained their cover story. He was last seen relapsing on painkillers in Chicago P.D. 's Season 6 finale ("Reckoning").

In the Season 7 premiere ("Doubt"), the Intelligence Unit visited Antonio's apartment to find it abandoned and in complete disarray. Voight later revealed that he'd taken Antonio to an off-book rehabilitation center.

In Season 7, Episode 3 ("Familia"), the squad learned Antonio had formally resigned from the CPD and moved to Puerto Rico to be closer to family.

Chi-Hards got a delightful update in Chicago Fire Season 8, Episode 9 ("Best Friend Magic") when Gabby revealed that Antonio was a member of the crisis response team in the Bahamas.

Antonio Dawson on Chicago P.D. Episode 622

How are Chicago P.D.'s Antonio Dawson and Chicago Fire's Gabriela Dawson related?

Antonio is the older brother of former Firehouse 51 paramedic Gabby Dawson .

Gabby and Antonio's parents were divorced, but the siblings came from a big extended family and were dear friends during their shared tenure in the franchise.

Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund) appears in a scene from Chicago Fire.

What happened between Antonio Dawson and his ex-wife, Laura Dawson?

In Season 1 of P.D. , Antonio was married to his wife of then-many years, Laura Dawson (America Olivo). The couple had two kids: Diego (Zach Garcia) and Eva (first Maya Moravec, then Ariana Chantelle Cordero).

After the cartel leader Pulpo kidnapped Diego in Season 1, Episode 2 ("Wrong Side of the Bars"), Laura was devastated and, while Diego was ultimately rescued, she remained concerned about what her husband's job meant for their family. Those concerns intensified after Antonio was shot and seriously wounded by the same man in Season 1, Episode 13 ("My Way").

When Antonio returned to work as soon as he could in Season 1, Episode 15 ("A Beautiful Friendship"), he told Voight that Laura was livid. She wanted him to quit and for the family to move closer to her sister in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Laura ultimately left with the kids while Antonio was at work, and he returned to an empty house and a letter on the table

Their tumultuous divorce would played a role in subsequent seasons as the two struggled to acclimate to a custody agreement.

Eva reacted poorly to her parent's divorce, even running away to see her father at the Precinct in Season 2, Episode 4 ("Chicken, Dynamite, Chainsaw"). She had been worried she'd never see her father again, but Antonio assured her that she, Diego, and him were "a knot" that would never come undone.

She was later seen in the midst of SAT prep in Season 4 of Chicago P.D. and then discussing college application essays with her father in Season 5, Episode 3 ("Promise").

Antonio and Laura Dawson on Chicago P.D. Episode 113

When did Antonio Dawson leave Chicago P.D. and join  Chicago Justice?

Voight recommended Antonio for the position of lead investigator for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office — which formed the basis of the One Chicago spin-off, Chicago Justice —  in Season 4, Episode 16 ("Emotional Proximity").

He accepted the position but returned to his post at the 21st District in the Season 5 premiere ("Reform") having disliked the long-haul cases at the prosecutor's office.

What happened between Chicago P.D. 's Antonio Dawson and Chicago Fire's Sylvie Brett?

Antonio and Firehouse 51 paramedic Sylvie Brett ( Kara Killmer ) fell for each other after crossing paths in Chicago Fire Season 5, Episode 3 ("Scorched Earth"), which corresponded with Chicago P.D. Season 4.

She asked him out but he turned he turned down after explaining that his divorce was still fresh and still dramatic. After Sylvie insisted she didn't mind, the two began dating and were together in several subsequent episodes of Chicago Fire .

She also instantly set out to impress his kids, even learning chess to play with Diego, with whom she struggled to connect at first. But after she agreed to look after Diego while Antonio worked a case in Chicago Fire Season 5, Episode 12 ("An Agent of the Machine), his ex-wife Laura showed up at the firehouse in a rage and began shouting insults at the paramedic.

Antonio apologized but became frustrated at Sylvie, noting that he'd warned her about there being drama. She explained that she never expected to be directly attacked, and cut things off between them.

He later visited and apologized for lashing out, but she was still upset by his lack of empathy and stuck to her plan to end their relationship.

Chicago Fire makes major cast change for season 13 – details

The nbc show has seen the departures of some major stars in recent months.

Hanko Greensmith as Violet Mikami, Christian Stolte as Mouch, Alberto Rosende as Blake Gallo, Kara Killmer as Sylvie Brett, Jesse Spencer as Matthew Casey, Taylor Kinney as Kelly Severide, David Eigenberg as Christopher Herrmann, Joe Minoso as Joe Cruz, Miranda Rae Mayo as Stella Kidd, Daniel Kyri as Darren Ritter

Chicago Fire has made an exciting change to the cast of its upcoming 13th season. Actress Jocelyn Hudon, who plays paramedic Lyla Novak, has been promoted to series regular after one season.

Lyla was introduced to viewers in season 12 as a freelancer before agreeing to join Violet (Hanako Greensmith) as an official member of the Firehouse 51 team.

Jocelyn shared the good news on Instagram, posting a screenshot from Deadline 's story as well as a photo of a personalised cake adorned with the Chicago Fire logo.

Fans rushed to the comments section to congratulate the 29-year-old, with one person writing: " Congrats! Already love your character, " while another added: "Congratulations can't wait to see the future series episodes."

Jocelyn is a familiar face on our screens thanks to her various TV roles and was even nominated for Best Actress at the 2024 Mammoth Film Festival after starring in The Fall.

She's perhaps best known for playing Abby in the FX horror drama,  The Strain , created by Guillermo del Toro. The Canadian actress has also appeared in Apple TV's Acapulco , NBC's The Irrational  and made one-episode appearances in shows such as  9-1-1, Criminal Minds and  The Rookie: Feds.

Jocelyn's promotion isn't the only major change to the  Chicago Fire cast in recent months. Not only has newcomer Michael Bradway joined the drama as firefighter Jack Damon, but the show has also seen some surprising departures.

MORE ONE CHICAGO SHOWS

Rome Flynn's left the series after a short stint as Derrick Gibson, who decided to step down from his job at Firehouse 51 to get help for his prescription pill addiction.

Opening up about his departure, Rome told Variety: "Just like all the fans, I was sad to see Gibson leave. He was a character I very much enjoyed playing."

He added: "I had a wonderful experience during my time on Chicago Fire and have great respect for the cast and crew and hope to team up with Dick Wolf again when the time is right."

Rome isn't the only star to depart the franchise lately. Alberto Rosende, Kara Killmer, and Eamonn Walker have all stepped down from their roles after starring in multiple seasons.

Alberto's character Blake Gallo made his final appearance in the season 12 premiere when he decided to move to Michigan to be closer to his newly discovered family. Meanwhile, Eamonn is stepping back from playing boss Wallace Boden but will likely return for a number of episodes in some capacity in the future.

As for Kara, her final storyline saw her on-screen counterpart Sylvie Brett pack her bags for Portland after tying the knot with Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer).

Speaking to TVLine about her exit , Kara teased a possible cameo return. "If you're going to spend 10 years somewhere, you want to spend it in a place like our show, but I'm very excited to see what else is out there on the horizon."

The actress added: "I'm very satisfied with where things end up for Sylvie on Fire. I would be more than happy to pop on anytime.

"[Firehouse] 51 has a unique way of getting itself into trouble, and we love to see familiar faces, and so I'm happy to come back anytime."
