In the present era, a man has to work hard for his survival. He has to put his maximum efforts to face the challenges of life. This physical and mental work not only tires him but also damages his talent. He certainly needs some pleasant activity to lessen this burden of boredom. He should have some free time and favourite activity to ease his troubled feelings. This sort of mental entertainment is called a hobby.

Different people surely have different hobbies. in other words, there are as many hobbies as men. Book reading, gardening, stamp collecting, painting, Swimming, fishing, cooking, photography and many more are adopted by various people in the world. Lord Salisbury’s hobby was to work in the chemical laboratory. The painting was the hobby of Sir Winston Churchill whereas Bernard Shaw was fond of growing vegetables in his garden. l have made a beautiful garden in the lawn attached to my home. I have grown lush green grass there, vegetables, flowers and trees of different kinds. The time passed in my garden really becomes sensational and rational.

The hobby is an activity that a person does for pleasure in his leisure time. Time hangs heavy on our shoulders when we do not have anything special to do in our spare time. So, different people have different pastimes. The activity that I do regularly for enjoyment in my spare time is gardening and I love my hobby. Life without a hobby is like food without salt.

I love and like beauty in all forms and flowers symbolize both love and beauty. I have grown different kinds of flowers. They enrich my inner self. My hobby saves me from the tedium of life and serves as an oasis in the vast wilderness of life.

So, in their company, I do not feel the communication gap.

My hobby is a healthy activity. In this polluted age of ours, we are suffocating to death. My hobby, gardening, gives me a feeling of pleasure and freshness. I spend a few rupees on the seeds and saplings and give them rich soil and plenty of water. I do my best to keep them protected, and my whole house becomes fragrant with their sweet smell. I look after my flowers as parents take care of their young kids.

Plants and flowers also have some relevance to human life. These flowers tell us that beauty is short-lived, and so is human life. I have come to know that it costs us nothing to beautify the place where we live. If we spend a little money and time to grow plants and flowers, we can make our town and cities beautiful. We can wipe away the ugliness and pollution from our country.

Last but not least, it is worth pointing out that we should never ride a hobby too hard. We should not make a toil of pleasure. In other words, we should not indulge in a hobby to such an extent as to convert it into a dull and cheerless task. A hobby should be regarded just as a mental recreation.

Stamp-collecting is considered a royal hobby. It is a very expensive hobby. My pocket-money is not enough to meet the expenses of all the new stamps, which I want to collect. My father, who likes my hobby of stamp-collecting, gives me rupees there hundred a month to buy the new stamps.

I have very nice stamp-albums. I feel p[ride in showing them to my visitors guests and friends. I have pen-friends all over the world. I exchange the stamps with them. Every stamp has a tale to tell me about a country and its people. There are also the pictures of kings, rulers and great men. There are also the pictures of the beautiful scenes of Nature. These beautiful pictures are really a great source of inspiration to me.

This hobby has helped me in making pen-friends from other countries. It has added to my knowledge about various countries and nations. I have so far collected thousands of stamps of various countries. This hobby has provided me with a joy forever. Some of my friends are of the view-point that I am wasting my time. In fact, they are unaware that hobbies are also an inevitable part of education.

My Favourite Hobby

If I were to pick one favourite hobby of mine out of the many I have, I will definitely pick gardening. I developed a taste for dancing when I was very young. The way my feet moved to the rhythm of the music convinced my parents that I was a born dancer. Dancing is very uplifting as well as economical.

I have always had a love for music and dance. However, I never realized the utter joy they bring to humans. Dancing gives us a lot of exercises. It teaches us to move our body rhythmically and feel the beat of every song. This kind of physical exercise is extremely delightful and enjoyable.

Moreover, dance also taught me how to stay strong and push my limits. I have had many injuries while dancing, too many bruises and cuts but that didn’t stop me from pursuing it further. In fact, it pushes me to do my best and realize my potential more than ever.

I have enrolled in dancing classes because I wish to make my hobby my career. I feel we all should do things which we enjoy doing. Everyone is running after money and in this race, they give up their likings and preferences. I have learned from this race and decided to not take part in it. I wish to take the road less traveled by and take on challenges most people don’t dare to.

In short, my hobby of dancing makes me feel alive and well. It is the only thing I look forward the most to. Thus, I hope to achieve my dream of being a professional dancer and making way for people who wish to make careers out of their hobbies.

My Morning Run

I woke up early on a bright sunny morning, eager to start my day with a run. I quickly changed into my workout clothes and laced up my running shoes, ready to hit the road. I set off at a steady pace, feeling the rush of endorphins as I picked up speed. I felt alive, energised, and free.

My hobbies are Singing and listening to music. But singing is my favorite hobby. When I was 4 years old, my parents enrolled me in a Music Class in our Apartment. Our Music teacher’s name was Mrs.Sheela and used to teach me the basics of Music and Singing. From then I used to practice whatever my teacher taught me in Music Class whenever I am free. I used to sing while traveling in the school bus, while walking on the roads etc., This practice turned singing into my hobby.

Also, my friends encourage me to sing during the lunch breaks and they enjoy my songs and have lunch.

I simply smile while singing a song which makes the listeners/observers smile as well. I have also participated and bagged few prizes in singing and music-related competitions which were organized in our school. 

Besides that my mom is also a renowned singer and she received many awards for the same. But she compromised her dream to take care of my family. Whenever I bag an award or prize from a singing competition, my mom is the first person who will be happy about that. My mom and I enjoy singing together and forget about the time. My mom also suggests to me the correction of tone and rhythm here and there when I am singing along. Sometimes, I feel that I am fulfilling her dream.

Since my Voice range is alto, I stuck only to singing melodious songs. But I dream to become a DJ or pop star in the future. For that I am practicing pop, pop alternative singing methods as well. Once I get familiar with the pop style methods, I will disclose to my friends that I can sing pop songs as well. Someday I wish to become a great singer in the world.

A hobby is work which a person does with much satisfaction and amusement. It is a kind of recreation, a shadow from the scorching beam of the sun and also getting fruit from it. I have been interested in gardening since my childhood. I like to see the green velvety grass, different colours of flowers and beautiful plants. So, I have selected a piece of land in my house and planted different kinds of flowers. I have planted a red rose, yellow and black rose plants and have arranged them one after another. The flowers of -Night Queen”, “Jasmine” and “King of the day” have filled the atmosphere with attractive fragrance. In the evening my family spend their time in the garden. I have also planted Guava and Neem trees, which give shade from the scorching beam and also get fruit from it. Whenever I go to a party, my friends persuade me to sing. Once I begin, the party livens up, people join in and the place is filled with the sound of music. I feel proud of myself and my friends also praise me because they feel that I become the life of the party. I play the guitar and sing when we go on a picnic or when I have a free period in school.

My hobby makes me happy and also brings joy to all my relatives and friends. It is necessary that everybody must have some hobby. It educates man, gives him pleasure, and helps him to utilize his free time fruitfully. If a person has no hobby, his spare time will turn him into a useless, irritated and restless person. “An idle mind is a devil’s workshop”. First, I like to finish all my school homework and then start watching TV. This lightens my mood and sparks up the excitement inside me, as it increases my curiosity about the world. Watching different useful stuff on TV enhances my knowledge horizons and gives me lots of joy.

It is a good habit because watching TV escorts a lot of knowledge in various fields. There are several channels on TV, which represent worldwide affairs. I watch the news and I like channels, such as animal planet, discovery channel or another informative channel. I interestingly watch a cartoon network that provides me with creative and new ideas to make cartoons and arts. Some of my favourite comics are Mr Bean, Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo and many more. My parents praise my hobby, and they are also happy when they see me watching national and international news and several events on the TV. Moreover, they feel proud when they listen to the news update from me. 

Now, I study in class with two and eight years old girls. Creating jokes, sitting idle and spending time roaming around is unproductive, according to my parents. My parents made sure that I developed my hobbies from childhood. Therefore, they encouraged me to create some good habits. 

Watching TV in a proper way gives you so many important roles. It helps us to make something creative. I, too, have more than one hobby. Other than watching TV, I like to listen to music. This helps me keep myself calm after doing lots of work and gives my ears and heart a soothing effect. 

Besides these, I also have hobbies, such as reading comic books, painting, writing narrative stories, and maintaining a scrapbook. These activities make me happy and enhance my hidden qualities. Writing and reading boost my imagination. Along with these activities, I participate in gardening in my leisure time because I love to plant new and colourful flowers. 

Moreover, I like dancing and singing. These are the activities I often do whenever I find time after completing my studies and homework. I do participate in singing and dancing competitions as well because I like to sing and dance. My teachers and parents always appreciate and encourage me to pursue my hobbies.

We get the word ‘ hobby’ from ‘ hobby – horre’. Hobby – horre is a long stick of wood. It is fitted with a wooden horse’s head at one end. Small children ride on  it for amusement. So hobby means an amusement. We get his amusement by doing a work. We do this work in our leisure time. The pursuit of hobbies is not, as some think, a waste of time. A hobby is but a right use of leisure. Hobbies fill our vacant hours with amusement and interest.

“All work and no play makes jack a dull boy.” We want leisure after hard work. Everyone wants leisure. Spending leisure is an art. A rich man wastes it in playing tennis or in reading novels. It is not proper use of leisure. A hobby is a wise- use of leisure. We work in leisure time. This work costs nothing. It is a free service for amusement. To snap is a hobby for a student but it becomes a work for a photographer. In order to make a change from daily routine to feel fresh we want a hobby.

There are different kinds of hobbies. As different people have different nature so hobbies too, are different. Some persons are interested in collecting stamps and coins of different countries  while others are fond of collecting flowers, insects, books of different taste, painting, singing, dancing, knitting, swimming, gardening and booting etc.

My hobby is gardening. There are many reasons for my choice. It is a very cheap hobby. I spend very small amount on it. I get from the market. They are not costly. I get flowers  plants and tree from nurseries. I pay some small amount for  it. After two years I have learnt to make seeds in my own garden, I have a small nursery. Here I have my own saplings.

Gardening is a healthy hobby. I dig my garden on every Sunday. In need I also work in the evening. I clean my beautiful garden. I water the plants in the evening. I take out the grass. I give manure. I have become healthy and strong. My hobby is a means of soft useful exercise. I breathe fresh air. I find pollution free atmosphere. I have some fruit- plants. Get fresh grapes and guavas. In summer I have mangoes. During summer vacation. I have to take care of my mango tree. My hobby keeps me busy in leisure time. My mother gets fresh flowers to worship. When my younger sister runs after the butterflies to catch, I enjoy her company. I feel a pleasure to see my garden. It beautifies my house front. I am proud of my hobby.

Men of leisure are men of pleasure. They do not know how to make a proper use of their times. Pleasures do not last long. Soon life becomes dull and boring for them. They have no need to earn money, but they still have need to use their time. An idle man’s  brain; it is said, is a devil’s work- shop. Those who do not have anything worthwhile to do quite often indulge in crime and anti- social activities such as dacoity and car- lifting.

To make a proper use of one’s leisure one must have some type of hobby. It provides both education and recreation. It keeps a man busy and saves him from the evil path. It can also be useful for earning money. One such hobby is stamp-collecting. Men have become millionaires by collecting and selling rare stamps.

Everybody has to do some job to earn his living. This profession entails a lot of mental and physical fatigue. When he goes on doing the same work day in and day out, year by year his life becomes dull and boring. To get out of the rut he should have some hobby- an activity which he performs no for money making but for pleasure.  

A hobby lightens the professional burden of a man. It affords a pleasurable change of activity. It chases away boredom and refreshes the mind and body.

A hobby is the best way of making use of one’s leisure. It keeps a man pleasantly busy. It fills his vacant hours with delight. There are many different kind of hobbies. Some are very expensive and some are very cheap. Everybody can have some type of hobby to suit his taste and purse. There is no hard and fast rule about the choice of a hobby. You can make your own hobby or select one already in existence. 

The most popular hobby is stamp collecting. It has millions of followers throughout the world. It is both cheap and costly. You can collect only old used stamps which cost nothing. Or you can buy rare old stamps which cost millions of rupees. Stamp collecting may cost you nothing or it may cost you everything. It depends on the way you conduct hobby.

Another important hobby is photography. It can also be very costly. It is not so costly if you collect photographs made by others. But if you make your own photographs with your own camera, it can be very costly indeed.   

A game can also be your hobby. Cricket costs a lot and is a rich man’s hobby but Kabbadi or wrestling costs nothing and many poor people have these hobbies. Gardening is also a very popular hobby. Some people fishing as their hobby : it requires lot of patience and also some money to have fishing as a hobby. Boating and swimming also are hobbies.

My hobby is yoga. When I have any spare time, I devote it do yoga. It never tires me. On the contrary, it removes all tiredness. It relaxes the body completely. It is the best and the cheapest hobby. It costs you nothing and keeps you physically fit. You can do yoga as long as you like, it never tires you. In any case, it never tires me. When I feel tired of  everything in the world, I still find refreshment in yoga. It si the most lives.

In youth work should be punctuated with yoga. In old age yoga should be punctuated with work. That is, in youth you should pursue professional activities and follow yoga as hobby during leisure hours. In old age your professional activity should become yoga. Yoga work in life should be a kind of hobby to you. 

This is the case with all hobbies. In old age hobby itself becomes work while work becomes a mere hobby!
