Hello. Please note that the word RÉSUMÉ is French and requires two accents to differentiate it from the non-French word resume, which has a totally different meaning.

Creating Great Resumes Using Apple Pages

Introduction

Whether this is the first, second or third time you need to create your resume, it’s always a hard task to complete. With this brief guide, we are going to see how the use of Pages can help in creating great resumes.

Getting Started

Once you open up Pages, to create a new document, the program will present you with a page where you can choose a template from a wide range of built-in templates. Today we are going to focus on the templates dedicated to create great resumes.

Once you have chosen the one that you feel best fits your needs, just click on it and Pages will render the template. The template will be filled with standard contents that you will replace, of course, with your personal information. As you will see, in Pages there are many different templates you can choose from, but I would suggest you to chose one that is simple enough that it will show your details, without creating confusion for who reads it.

I know that you may want something to stand out from the crowd, but in this case, the more simplistic the more effective it will be.

Filling In Your Data

This is the most important part when it comes to creating great resumes. It is not directly related with the structure of the document, but it’s a very important task to complete. There are many ways in which you can fill you resume. I won’t go much into the detail of filling it, but I’ll focus more on the structure.

Be sure to include a recent photograph of you in the top right corner of the first page. To do so, just drag the picture from wherever it is on your hard drive, directly into the page. Right click on it to set the position on the document. I suggest you to set to Overlay text, so you will be able to move it around and place it where you fell it will fit best. As much as a resume should be schematic and short, there could be some parts where you need to place several pieces of information.

If you write an entire paragraph, you should align the text using the justify button. You will find this button inside the Inspector menu, under the voice text and paragraph. Now let’s talk about tables. You may want to use a table in your document. This is very useful in the language section for example.

A table is a good way to show info about all the languages you know. Inserting a table in Pages is really straight forward. Hit the Insert tab on top and select Table. You will be able to customise the number of rows and column and you will also be able to move the table around, placing it wherever you want.

Final Recommendations and Conclusions

This was just a brief overview of the potential of Pages in creating great resumes. I just want to close the article with two final recommendation. When you finish the first draft of your resume, let a friend or a colleague check for possible mistakes.

Another pair of eyes can be very useful many times. Second, if you are unsure on the kind of information you need to enter in your resume, you could check the Europass website (just Google it), to obtain more tips & tricks on how to create resumes that will stand out from the crowd.

How To Create A Resume in Apple Pages

Whether you're a fresh graduate or an experienced person, you'll need to pass a resume together with a cover letter to get your dream job. Resumes will help your prospective employer if you are qualified for the job you're applying for. It can be challenging to write your resume since you need to highlight essential credentials. You might ask yourself, "Where do I start?" when making your resume. Thus, we're here to teach you how to create a resume that will highlight your credentials that is easy as 1-2-3.

1. Select A Resume Format

Resumes can be written in three formats: Reverse Chronological, Functional, and Combination.  Choose from the three so that you can easily write the content of your modern resume . The three formats have their advantages and disadvantages, and for that reason, you need to choose which will highlight your credentials most. The first format, reverse chronological, is the traditional format and popularly used due to its flexibility that any applicants can use. The second format, functional, puts emphasis on the applicant's qualifications and is more suitable for those who have job experiences. The last format, combination, is the combination of the two formats. It emphasizes specific qualifications, yet it also contains professional experiences. Just a reminder, the information you're going to include on your simple resume will depend on the format you choose.

If you're not sure what format you want to follow, you may purchase the available resume templates above.

2. Provide Contact And Personal Information

After deciding the perfect format for your modern resume, you can now begin writing your resume. If you're a Mac user, open the word-processing application on your Macbook, Apple Pages. Begin with writing your contact and personal information. This information is always located on top of the document. It is essential to write your contact and personal information so that your employer can easily contact you. Prominently display your name, address, phone number, email address, and social media account links.

3. Always Include An Objective

Your resume objective (career objective) will set the tone for the entire content of your resume. This brief blurb— if written correctly— is a smart way to capture the attention of prospective employers. Job seekers usually misunderstand the career objective. This blurb should tell the employer of your skills, knowledge, and abilities that will help the company in return. Instead, job seekers wrote their career objectives of what they want from the company and how it will help their career.

4. List Relevant Work Experiences

When listing your work experiences, there are two things you have to keep in mind. First, you should list them from the latest work experience you had. And second, only list experiences that are relevant to the job you're applying. When you write your experiences, create a heading for each company. It needs to include the company's name, the address, your job title, and the dates of your employment.

5. Write Additional Resume Sections

There are still more core features your basic resume  can or needs to showcase. These features are the education section, the skills, the accolades, and the references. When writing your education, place the highest degree attained first. For your skills, list skills that you think you have and are befitting to the job title your applying for. You may or may not include accolades and references. If you want to write accolades, it needs to be relevant and noteworthy. With your references, you may not write it on your resume, but you can place a "references available upon request" if you're not sure about writing references.

how to make a resume on pages mac

Create a document in Pages on Mac

To create a new document, you first choose a template to use as a starting point. Templates use coordinated fonts and colors for a unified look, and often include placeholder elements that you can replace with your own content.

There are two types of templates, depending on the type of document you want to create:

Word-processing : For documents that are primarily text, such as reports and letters.

Page layout : For documents with a more customized layout, such as books, posters, and flyers.

To quickly create a word-processing document or a page layout document, see the first two tasks below. To see more detailed formatting and design options (including formatting for another language), see the third task.

Create a basic word-processing document

To open Pages, click the Pages icon in the Dock, Launchpad, or Application folder.

If the template chooser doesn’t appear, click New Document in the bottom-left corner of the dialog.

Double-click one of the blank templates in the Basic category.

Start typing.

A new page is added automatically as you reach the end of the page.

Choose File > Save (from the File menu at the top of your screen), enter a name, choose a location, then click Save.

Pages automatically saves your changes as you work, so you don’t need to worry about consistently saving your document manually. However, it’s a good idea to rename your document so you can easily find it the next time you want to work on it. You can change the name of the document or change where it’s saved at any time.

If iCloud Drive is set up on your Mac, Pages saves the document to iCloud Drive by default.

To close the document, click the red close button in the top-left corner of the window.

Create a basic page layout document

the Document radio button

Deselect the Document Body checkbox, then click Convert in the dialog.

You can use this method to convert any word-processing template to a page layout template.

Do any of the following to adjust the text box:

Move it: Click outside the text box to deselect the text, then drag the text box anywhere on the page.

Create and format a document

To open Pages, click the Pages icon in the Dock, Launchpad, or Applications folder.

If the template chooser (shown below) doesn’t appear, click New Document in the bottom-left corner of the dialog. You can also hold down the Option key and choose File > New (from the File menu at the top of your screen).

The template chooser. A sidebar on the left lists template categories you can click to filter options. On the right are thumbnails of predesigned templates arranged in rows by category, starting with Basic at the top and followed by Reports and Books—Portrait. The Language and Region pop-up menu is in the bottom-left corner, and Cancel and Create buttons are in the bottom-right corner.

Note: If you’d like the ability to format table and chart data using the conventions of another language, choose the language in the bottom-left corner before choosing a template. See Change a document’s language and formatting .

In the template chooser, browse templates by category or click All Templates, then double-click a template to open it.

Do any of the following:

Replace placeholder text: Click the placeholder text, then type your own. Some templates include placeholder text written in lorem ipsum (scrambled Latin), but the text you type to replace it appears in the language you use.

Add new text boxes, images, shapes, or other objects: Click an object button in the toolbar .

The toolbar with buttons for adding tables, charts, text, shapes, and media.

Undo or redo recent changes: Choose Edit > Undo or Edit > Redo (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen).

In relation to learning how to construct a resume using Mac Pages, what would be the best source of information? So far after watching a couple of YouTube videos on the subject, the capability of Mac Pages seems to be limitless.

Macrumors 68020.

It comes down to design choices. I would suggest just looking at examples, and copying one you like. Not really a Pages thing...page layout/design choices for any tool that can do page layout. First thing I see is this resume format blog .

… and change the text.

Which is really easy. The blocks of text in the templates are 'placeholder text'. When you click on a block of text, the whole block is highlighted, and the placeholder text will disappear on the first keystroke, giving you an empty space in which to place the information suggested by the header text for that space.

You can enter your personal information directly, or open a 'blank' document in which to compose the text that will go in each block, then copy that text from the composition document and paste it into the appropriate space of the resume template, replacing the placeholder text there.

If you are required to submit a résumé electronically, know beforehand if MS Word .docx, or PDF format is the requirement, and the maximum size accepted. If Word, then it is likely that either the recipient's web front-end will convert it to PDF, or they will be opening it in MS Word (on Windows) if it passes the scan test of the applicant tracking software.

Pages translates the résumé that you write when you export it to Word, and the formatting and content may not look the same to someone opening that Word document in a current version of MS Word. Pages also creates larger Word documents than would MS Word, or even LibreOffice Writer. So use Pages for this purpose at your own risk, if a Word document is the output.

There are different résumé formats and expected content for different industries, and you should also pay careful attention to the asked requirements for any job posting as that may alter your content requirements. I suggest that you visit a library and peruse the current books on résumé formatting, especially those books that discuss electronic submissions and applicant tracking software. What verbs to use, and those that have been overused and now passé.

I never used a "canned" résumé format from some word processing application. I always wrote the first one from scratch, and then modified the original as needed for subsequent submissions. The role of the résumé is a brief marketing tool that speaks to the ask, and not a tell all about you. A human will take less than 5 seconds to scan it for something that makes them stop and read more. Briefly state what you did and the measurable results.

Fabulous Find!

I love this app! I hate writing resumes; I find it hard to do anything but list my work accomplishments. There are so many great templates to chose from, and it made the whole process easy. I no longer have to sit in front of a blank screen, wondering what to say about myself. The templates do set your resume up for success! Love being able to send off a resume quickly, if I see a good job opening.

Fabulous Templates!

I was looking for a resume maker app. I tried different apps, but all were either ask to pay at the end or not offering goog templates. But this app is just awesome. It has 500 templates. That let you choose your favourite one, customize it and you're ready to go. Thanks to the developers. I must say if you are looking for amazing templates. I recommend to at least give it a try.
